PHARMACOLOGY; NON NARCOTIC ANALGESICS & NSAIDs by Professor Fink

10 жыл бұрынIn this Video Lecture, Professor Fink first reviews the dual nature of pain: pain perception and pain reaction. He describes the 2 pain pathways ["fast" (epicritic) pain involving Type A-delta noxiceptors and "slow" (protopathic) pain involving Type C noxiceptors]. He then describes factors affecting Pain Reaction. Professor Fink also identifies the differences between analgesics, local anesthetics and general anesthetics.
Professor Fink next describes the formation and actions of prostaglandins, including the role of cyclo-oxygenase (COX).
Professor Fink then presents the pharmacology of the Salicylate Non-Narcotic Analgesic & Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs, including Aspirin (ASA), ibuprofen (Advil) and Celebrex (COX-2 Inhibitor).
Professor Fink then presents the Paraminophenol Non-Narcotic Analgesic Drugs (acetaminophen; Tylenol), and final compares and contrasts Aspirin with acetominophen.

Very professional thank you , I have a drug-nutrient interaction course and my lecturer is the fastest slide reader in the worlds she explains 40 slide in 20 minutes or less and this is so disappointing ,I love pharmacology thank to you. Your students are so lucky

Dear Bee Boop, in education, highlighting, diagrams,mannequin (also called a manikin, dummy, lay figure or dress form) help teachers to meet the learning need of students who are visual learners.It also help to note most important points or areas to focus much attention on.

It also makes a difference how large an area hurts. An extremely bad hurt the size of a pinhead is less than a minor hurt everywhere. An ant sting is about as bad as a hurt can be but it is a single point.

sir I have a question. we know NSAIDs block COX so that no prostaglandins are synthesized and thus they have anti inflammatory effect but prostacyclin and thromboxan A2 has counter function such as prostacyclin dilate vessels and thomboxan constrict so how NSAIDs do anti inflammatory effect??? becoz they both r blocked. thank u...

The role of prostocyclin is vasodilation which is inhibited by NSAIDs and by this they exerts their antinflammatory action while thromboxan has a major effect on platelet aggregation and a slight effect on vessels which is not important.

One time I stuck an exacto blade into my thumb and I felt it cutting before I felt the sharp hurt you are talking about. I thought this is going to hurt a lot in a few seconds.

There must be pain killers our own bodies make or maybe we just ignore it. I have burned myself bad enough to go to the doctor several times. I thought I wanted to take the cap off a radiator once but I was mistaken. I heard a boiling sound then I watched boiling antifreeze go up my arm. I thought this is really going to hurt. I went to the emergency room in extreme pain and sat there several hours. I ended up going home and fell asleep and went to my GP the next morning. When I went to the GP I had 2nd degree burns all up my arm and several small 3rd degree burns but I was not in any pain.

What is the effect of nsaids on lungs and bronchioles? Is it contraindicated in asthmatic patient?

There is probably a phenol similar to Tylenol that is as effective as heroine but as safe as Tylenol.

Why nsaids are not prescribed to asthmatic patient? What is mechanism of prostaglandins in lungs?

I think there are a couple of reasons for using corticosteroids rather than NSAIDs for inflammation association with bronchial asthma. [1] More people are allergic to NSAIDs than corticosteroids. (For example, about 5% of the population is allergic to aspirin) [2] Corticosteroids are more effective anti-inflammatory drugs, blocking the synthesis of many more chemical mediators of inflammation than just prostaglandins. And since there is relatively minimal systemic absorption (when the corticosteroid is administered by inhalation) the adverse effects are largely eliminated.

Tylenol is not a NSAID or narcotic it is a phenol and it is an odd drug. Tylenol works great on more severe pain but doesn't do anything for minor pain. The more severe the pain is the better it works.

As was pointed-out in the Video Lecture, there are both Type A ("fast") and Type C ("slow") pain fibers. Each of the 2 types is conducted up to different areas of the Brain, serving different purposes.

As I presented in the video lecture, acetaminophen & other "paraminophenols" are NOT regarded as NSAIDs, but as "Non-Narcotic Analgesics". (Aspirin & ibuprofen, etc. are classified BOTH as "Non-Narcotic Analgesics" AND NSAIDs.
