Phil Collins was vastly underrated as a drummer and I've always enjoyed his music.

There is no doubt he has created the legendary songs of our time to hate him or not can not shadow the fact at all. His songs play a big impact in our memories. ❤

News to me that Phil was ever not respected. Not so surprising, though: musicians tend to be highly opinionated, and quite dismissive of peers, especially of those from other genres. Thank God we know them for their music, and not their private conduct!

When you're successful, it's "norma"l to have enemies. The greater the success, the more enemies. It's us, people! And this is especially pronounced among musicians! Collins is (was) an excellent drummer, singer, composer, entertainer. And he earned his place among the great pop rock musicians.

Paul McCartney is ok. I don't know why people don't like him. Phil Collins is ok. Whoever Paul and Phil has a beef with is between them. Both of their music is good to me

He was known for his incredible generosity and almost went broke paying out to people who begged him for money. I am surprised this is not mentioned and Another Day In Paradise, suggests he admits we have all got it good, but many do not. I feel there is not much to dislike about him.

I heard a lovely story of Phil’s kindness to his fellow man this fella I was speaking to his father run a butchers shop in petworth in West Sussex business had become really bad because of prolonged road works Phil was a regular in the shop he came in one day to the shop he knew is business was struggling and invited him to come and work with him as a roadie which he did

Seen a few concerts in my days and seen both Phil Collins and Genesis live as a musical talent both Phil and Genesis were the best one of the very few bands that sounded better live than on an album and will greatly missed as a band, just a shame music today can't be this good...

All art is subjective IMO and comes down to personal taste. Anyone who sells millions of their songs is obviously good to millions of people. I don't see how that can be argued with in any rational way. Has Collins ever outright attacked or insulted anyone? Not that I'm aware of. What he has done is brought pleasure to millions. That is all good.

Jimmy Page has no right to criticize Collins for Live Aid at all! Page was absolutely off his face on God knows what and played abysmally. He was a far more obvious spectacle and embarrassment than Collins

Phill collins is an outstanding musician! His vocal performances are second to none. I often think of his work on the Albums 'Trick of the tale', Wind and wuthering' and especially 'And then there were three' as some of the most moving musical experiences of my younger (and present) life. I still listen to them..He may have had various fall outs with other great artists Jimmy Page, Roger Waters, Sir Paul Mcartney et al ..to name a few (all of whom are legends in their own right) but this does not in any way diminish this mans musical stature in my eyes. I believe he will be fondly remembered long after his many detractors have faded into obscurity..God bless you Phill, for all your faults! as all men have feet of clay..

I agree that Collins led Genesis, with its unique artistry and progressive sound, into just another pop band. This move was commercially successful but left plenty of us mourning the musical loss. Would have preferred he kept his pop inclination for his solo career, and allow the classic Genesis to evolve further. Anyway it's history. Classic Genesis died with the departure of Gabriel much as classic Floyd died when Waters left.

I have several Genesis albums (Yes they are in my prog rock category along with, YES, Pink Floyd, ELP, Marillion, etc.,)...I have no Beatles albums. I appreciate what the Beatles did but Phil is superior all day long through sheer talent alone...

I saw him way back as he was a backup group to another group that was more successful! But the other group disappeared and Phil became famous !

I remember when Phil Collins was everywhere you looked or whatever radio station you tuned in to. At that time, to me, be was so grossly commercial it make me sick. As well, Genesis with Phil Collins never did anything for me other than 'Turn It On Again,' whereas I love Peter Gabriel and have seen him in concert. Phil Collins has always been a hated commercial melody worm.

To me, even Phil Collins original music sounds like it is coming from a tribute group at a karaoke bar. That King Charles III when he was Prince of Wales, referred to him as a 'musical genius' is a tribute to mediocrity from a rich and mediocre parasite.

I remain an admirer of Phil Collins, but I do agree that "he brings it on himself". Witness: when he was drummer for Genesis in the early-1970's, he specifically cited Yes as being a favorite band. Then, later on in the 1980's: "Oh, I never liked bands like Yes. I was always into Aretha Franklin; Motown Soul." Stuff like than (rightly) led to critics calling Phil out, saying that all of a sudden he's become a black man.

Jimmy Pages criticizing him was in uncalled for, Plants singing & Page’s guitar were well under par.. shambolic I say.. they were the ones unprepared. Paul McCartney is up himself, he’s become my least favorite Beatle. Phil & I were both born in 1951. I actually have no opinion of him one way or another.

I think musicians are bound to not get along with every other musician they meet. As far as Phil Collins' music is concerned. I found myself enjoying what he & Genesis created in the 1980s. Like every entertainer Phil Collins was not any different from any of the others. They tend to marry and divorce more than one time in their lives. Nothing here to condemn Phill Collins for. He is certainly the worst musician I have heard of.
