What an intelligent colorful character Phil is! He makes what is ancient come alive!

This is honestly one of my favorite Phil videos. I could watch it over and over again - and have! I just love Phil's "teaching mode". His calm way of instructing and storytelling is so different from his louder, 'bigger' "character" persona that Time Team likes to highlight - and while Phil certainly IS that character, and it's very real (and I love it) - I love this side of him even more. What he knows, how he thinks about it, and the quiet way he conveys it...it's utterly compelling, and I can't get enough.

If Phil Harding knew any more about flints, he'd be able to name the man who made it ! I had no idea that a bit of flint could be so interesting. 😀

Raksha proved to be more than a helping hand in digging trenches. Have seen her in other videos, where she find stuff, and reports to the seniors. Polite, and eager to learn, she could werry well take on Time Team 2.0

Having watched a lot of time team episodes, I have still never seen this clip. I hope Phil is as charming and endearing in real life as he seems on the show.

This is the difference between a man who only learnt stuff from reading a book, and one who's also learnt how to do stuff himself. It's clear that Phil knows what's he's talking about from first-hand experience making his own stone tools.

Most interesting description of that blade though i have never seen one before but massively interested in historical find.
@gregusmc2868 Жыл бұрын
In Ohio, that would be considered a “bladelet,”most often associated with the Hopewell culture of the Middle Woodland period-approximately 2-3 thousand years ago. I have many cores and small bladelets in my collection, mostly of very colorful Flint Ridge flint, the huge “quarry” or outcropping of this highly desirable material is about 40 miles east of my home and has been in use for at least 10 thousand years. The scalpel-like, delicate bladeletes can be anywhere from a half inch to three or four inches long-with rare examples even longer-and archaeologists have proffered many possible uses for them but, in my opinion, they could have been used for anything that people would use a razor blade or extremely sharp, thin, knife blade for today. Finding long, intact bladelets is a rarity these days since they don’t stand-up well against modern farm machinery-or for that matter, a horse-drawn plow!

"They were also hunters as well. They didn't just give up ..." Like they were to wake up one morning, punch their sleeping skins, and go "Right, lads! Now we're farmers! Throw all your hunting equipment on the bonfire and let's go sow some grain!".^^

Can't believe how that man chastised Raksha. She must of felt really belittled. I didn't think she'd done anything wrong.

as an archaology student myself, it's absolutely stunning to listen to phil revealing his thoughts on that blade. however, @camera man, please keep the camera centered towards the blade, and not just phil ffs! 4:04 I'm able to spot a bulbus there on the ventral side of the blade! very nice hit indeed by the origin knapper. not too hard, not too soft, at the right angle onto a perfectly prepared core edge.

Great video except the eggy bit at the start where the condescending chap asks the Woman to “restrain herself.” No need for anybody to speak to anybody like that.

He asked her to let Phil speak and to restrain herself from asking questions for a minute. If you think that's disrespectful in a work environment then you've either led a very sheltered life or have never worked.

I noticed it too. He was very condescending toward Raksha She is one of my favorites and I think Phil's too. You can see although he doesn't flinch, Phil sort of gets Tim back for his rudeness, by saying Tim never really paid attention or took in anything Phil had ever said about flint. You can see by the end that Phil and Raksha have a much better report than Tim realized.
@niels.brouwer3 жыл бұрын
Completely agree, the interaction between Phil and Raksha was wonderful as always, there was absolutely no need for Tim to interfere with that in such a blunt way. I've noticed him do that in quite a number of these behind-the-scenes videos. In the interviews he hardly seems to pay attention to the fascinating information the experts are explaining, all he seems to care about is sounding clever whenever he asks the questions, whereas the genuine interaction with the amazing contributors should have been his only focus.

this a a time tram episode scene, not a straightforward as you may think, Phils mumbling was edited out and the final edit was about 60 seconds long, probably involving many retakes

This really shows , how they artificially made all the women look like leaders in last few seasons, who bark commands to all the actual pros. When in reality....
