Was in 8th grade at St Richards in South Philly ! We were having our May Procession and the 8th grade was in Cap And Gown ! I hid a bag in the churches rest room and had my T-shirt and shorts under it ! I went to the rest room as soon as we marched into the church ! Took off my cap and gown and snuck out the side door and ran to the Spectrum sneaking in the side door in Lee of the police on horses and got in just as Kate Smith started singing! I would have gotten in a lot of trouble but the Flyers won the cup ! I was on the Ice and the city went wild !

Gilles Gilbert never got the recognition he truly deserves. A true Boston Bruins. One of the best. However. What Bernie accomplished during these 3 years including the year the Flyers lost to the Canadiens is stuff of legends. To this day I'm wondering how things would have played out in 76 if Rick McLeish one of the most talented players in the league at the time and Bernard Parent the leagues primary goalie if they would have been healthy 🤔🤔🤔

Whatt are you shitting esposito looks like a spectator out there.its obvious the piece of shit isnt even trying.hes obviously not even trying on faceoffs .especially in the philly end and in particular when orr's on the ice.hes not playing defence at all and to top it off hes deliberatly giving the puck away in the Boston END several times allready and its still only 1st period .not to memtion the ladt save parent made phils tied up with a dman loose puck parents trying to glove and esposito just stood THERE like he was afraid he might fall on bernie or something.then he says nice save bernie and pats him on the shoulder .back to the rest of the game cant wait to see whst DON ESPOSITO DOES FOR THE ITALIAN MOB NEXT.

I have to admit, I went searching for this specific hockey game, and I'm glad I found it. The family missed this game because it was on a Sunday, and nobody wanted to drive to Philly from Boston, and then drive back to Beantown. Always enjoyed the Dave Schultz/Terry O'Reilly spats. This game was a little bit different, I would gauge it as the best hockey playoff game of all time, even though the Bruins lost. I am still haunted by the announcer, "Save! Parent!....Save! Parent!" ...and to think, Bernie Parent used to be a Boston Bruin. Thank You so much for having this video!!!!

Classic bump-and-grind game from the era. The reason we did not see more of a very good Maple Leafs team was these Bruins, Flyers and of course the Habs who were even better and needed to be as the Leafs were stacked with guys like Sittler, McDonald, Salming, Turnbull, and Mike Palmateer in goal. They had a formidable enforcer-type player of their own, too, in Dave "Tiger" Williams.

To us young and die hard Leaf fans of the mid seventies, the Flyers were much more than the Broad Street Bullies; they were Public Enemy #1. Yet after seeing a few of these cup final games between them and the Bruins after 47 years, I can clearly see how good of an overall team they were. Arthur Rousakos wow. Even though they were "an up and coming team" for the Flyers an expansion team just 7 years earlier to beat one arguably one of the great teams in NHL history shocked the hockey and sports world alike. Looking back it amazing that the Big Bad Bruins of Orr and Espo only won 2 cups. That combo should have another title or two. Again it sad Orr brilliant career was cut short by injuries. And the Flyers were so underrated as a great team. The Broad Street Bullies personality overshadowed a great player like Bobby Clarke, Parent etc.

AmericanGiant100 B's didn't win more cups because of their two superstars, Espo and Orr, it was only Orr who shined in the playoffs. Espo generally was a big choke especially in the finals. Orr's two Conn Smythe Trophies attest to this.

Freddie Last although Parent probably stole the Cup for the Flyers in 1974, I think 1971 was a different story. Dryden played very well but the Bruins lost primarily for two reasons, 1) they were so focused on winning the division, the only thing they failed to do the previous season, and broke so many league records and won the division so early, T. Johnson rested many of the players the last two weeks of the season that they lost their edge going into the playoffs, 2) they blew a 5-1 lead in game 2 after winning game 1. Really if they won game 2 they probably win the series in 5. Although there would have been a lot more work to do the rest of the way vs NYR and Chicago I feel confident they would have beaten these opponents as they did throughout that period. Really the inability to beat Canadiens during this period of the jinx in '69, when they were already better, and in '71 denied the B's of 4 straight Cups.

T bone Haha, The Great Gene Hart. AKA the biggest Homer of all time. According to him and that clown Bobby Taylor no Flyer ever deserved a penalty and never lost a fight. It's a shame because Philly had great club ( except for a couple of all-time scumbags like Moose-3rd man in Dupont & Mr Spear Ken Linsman) so they really didn't need those two in the booth. Again we have to remember it's Philadelphia They call Chicago the second City which means Philly must be the next 2nd rate city.

I recently heard an interview with Bernie Parent where he discussed the final seconds of the game when Bobby Orr shot the puck the length of the ice as the clock ran out. Parent said he was looking at the clock when the puck was shot and didn’t see it until the last second when it went past him behind the net. Okay, Bernie, but the video seems to contradict that. But its a great story.

Scary thing is that Parent and MacLeish BOTH originally started their careers as Bruins(as did Ken Dryden) with MacLeish being the B’s #4 overall pick in 1970. They were both also part of the same 3 way trade where, amongst other parts, Parent went from Philly to Toronto and MacLeish went from BOS to PHI (thanks for nothing Mike Walton).

some of the flyers players came from the bruins in the 67 draft. parent, lonsberry, dornhoffer and maybe some others plus the start of the wha had thinned the bruins and the league, but that's ancient history.

Philadelphia was the first of the "Next Six" teams to win the Stanley Cup. Their 1974 win against Boston was at the time considered a huge upset; before the series began, most sportswriters were looking for Boston to sweep in four straight.

I vividly remember watching, as a ten year old, my Bruins lose this game in spring 1974. Even remember the time on the clock when Orr was penalized on Clarke. Orr messed up playing Clarke...had the speed and angle, should have stayed on Clarke's left and rode him off the puck. As great as he was, I remember watching Orr make basic defensive mistakes, which were forgiven, because he was so great offensively. MacLeish should have won an award for that dive...Bucyk was going for the puck, and you can see him turning to avoid dumping MacLeish. Shit call. Orr was dumped from behind in the Flyers end later...no call. The amount of hooking, holding and interference in the league in these days was infuriating.

Hit the guy right into the boards head first and no penalty. Lots of hooking the whole game without any penalties. It's why I quit playing high level hockey in midget just a year or two after this series. Nothing but hooking and fast guys like me just got slowed down by it. Not a lot of hard body checking. We hear about how vicious the Flyers were but nobody really hit that much in those days. It was just a lot of stick work.

THANK you for agreeing with me about ESPO. After wining that 1970 Cup, ESPO was a no show EXCEPT when he played aganst his brother . When he saw that Chicao Hawk jersey #35. ........lookout. Gilbert was no match against Bernie Parent. Bobby Orr cost us game two of that series coughing up the puck to Rick Mclish In 1976 we were loaded with injuries after a grueling series with the LA Kings. THANK GOD we had Jean Ratelle and not ESPO. Ratty scored 2 goals in game 7 of a a 3-0 victory over the Kings. When Cheevers revealed he was hurt and we had to again gor with Gilles" JEKYL AND HYDE" "Gilbert I knew we had no chance. AAAH but With a healthy Cheevers, and new weapons, Peter McNAB, Stan Jonathan, and Rick Middeton we took care of the Flyes in 77 AND 78

JAY DAVIDSON yeah Espo I think was leading scorer in 1970 playoffs, but than as you say he did little in playoffs especially in the Finals. Gillie though I think generally played well in playoffs, you can't blame him for loss in this series and remember how well he played vs Canadiens in1979, 50 saves in game 7, a series the B's deserved to win but for stupid too many men on ice penalty. Cheevers got better as he got older although he was always a money goalie. I wonder if sanderson could have made a difference vs Flyers in '74???

Can't really remember much about this game though. But I do remember going to the lacrosse game later that night at the Spectrum. It was packed at that game and driving up with my family it was chaos in the streets of Philly...parties all over...chicks flashing their tits and stuff.

Kate Smith should not have been allowed to sing anything but the national anthem!!! The flyers are cheats! But really,, these kinds of things, like Kate Smith in Philly or Roget Ducette in Montreal are some of the shuttle difference today's game is missing. One last thing, if Orr's left knee wasn't all about to fall off, the 1974 finals would have had a different outcome.(and Bernie Parent playing net like God!!)
