This Mets fan is thrilled that you posted this. I was ten when this game was played, and I love every single memory that comes to mind as I watch. Thanks!

Awesome, glad you enjoyed it! I have a ton more Mets games from this era.

@@thesportsarchive6042 Awesome. Thanks for letting me know. Any chance you have the Mets/Expos game from June 22, 1985? I was at that game with my father and uncle, so I've been trying to track it down forever. Also, I'd love to see any Gooden game from '84 or '85. I was a huge fan of his during that time. Looking forward to whatever you end up posting. Cheers!

Matthew Kayser Mets had so many whacky games in 85. Started in April with that 18 inning Saturday afternoon game at Shea vs the Pirates. The 26-7 loss to the Phillies in early June. Philly scored 16 runs in the first 2 innings. And of course the infamous Rick Camp game on July 4/5.

I wish I was able to enjoy the 80s Mets. My dad tells me all these great things about those teams. I was born in 02 so the only winning Mets teams I actually watched was 15 and 16. I was too young to really be paying attention from 05-08.

Arthur Cooperman It’s rough being a Mets fan for sure but we stick w our team. I was 7 in 1984 & that was my first memories of watching games w my Dad who really was a old Brooklyn Dodger fan but transitioned to the Mets too.

Always loved it when Dutch Rennert was behind the plate. I could hear him from the mezzanine level down the left field line.
@Brooklyn39554 жыл бұрын
Dutch is hands down my favorite of all time, and it's because of his signature strike call. I absolutely agree with you. It's funny. I always aks the umps during my son's games who their favorite umpire is or was growing up. I swear to you 90 percent can't name one. I can never understand that - lol.

It seemed like every time Gooden pitched in 1984 and 1985 the crowd at Shea was buzzing on every pitch. There's a barely audible boredom from crowds at modern games.

Doc was just filthy this year. One of the best pitching seasons of all time. Carlton went 1-8 this year and looked like a shell of his former self

Wonder if you have any games in 1982 when Mike Scott pitched for the Mets?
@keefwins043 жыл бұрын
Steve Charlton vs. Dwight Gooden. You can’t find a pitching matchup with that name power today. I don’t even wanna hear. Kershaw vs. Scherzer or some shit either. One of my favorite pitchers of the last 15yrs is Madison Baumgardner. He’s was the kind of ball player i’d pay money to see. Just my opinion

Hey SNY programming vp! This is what we want to see! Not Opening day 2000 in Japan!
@jeremydavidson91944 жыл бұрын
You know he pitched 8 shutouts in 1985! I’ve never seen any one of them on SNY. Why?
@Brooklyn39554 жыл бұрын
@@jeremydavidson9194 Maybe it has to do with rights - I have no idea, but it would really expand the Met universe a hell of a lot more if they could do that. Just seems so damn common in sense.

Other games SNY should air: 1986 Houston at Mets Lenny Dykstra walk off; Rick Reed complete game against Pirates in September of ‘99; 5/11/90 Dodgers at Mets; There was also the Gooden 1 hitter against the Cubs in 1984. And then there is game 7 of 1986 series. How do we see more of opening day in Japan than game 7 of 1986 ws???!!!!
@jamesmiller62173 жыл бұрын
I remember Goodens 1 hitter against the Cubs in '84. I think that the only hit was a slow dribbler to 3rd. He was awesome.
@michaelhowell26093 жыл бұрын
Why in the world would you mess with the mechanics of a pitcher with this kind of stuff. I’ve been watching old Gooden games the last few weeks and the one thing I have noticed is in 84/85 he followed through and fell off the mound. Starting in 86/87 he squares up which puts him in a better fielding position but why? No one could hit him those first few years.
@jeremydavidson91942 жыл бұрын
I know. I’ve been talking about that since 1988. Especially against lefties, he threw more 3/4 starting in 1988.
@dareal05 Жыл бұрын
As a kid then, it was something I almost obsessed over. Think there was a thought he was tipping pitches so his start of the windup hand to glove sort of shifted, and that in turn shifted mechanics - along with him getting bigger and losing some of that over the top whip motion. But yeah, by 88 towards the end it was a slow, methodical windup almost throwing across his body.

The Golden Age of baseball. No stupid interleague, woke politics, bat flips, replays, PEDs, exit velocity, WAR, braille uniforms (Orioles in 2020) etc. before greed ruined the game. I can't watch a game now.

Same. You forgot interviews in dugout during the game. Final nail in the coffin for me was going to a Cubs game and they were selling bases and baseballs from the actual game that was still going on
