Clever trick! Though I think the more accurate term is bevel, not miter, cut.

Great video! Any chance that you could elaborate on the L-tenons? I’m curious as to how those are made

You've convinced me to buy an L-Fence with the series of videos showcasing how much you can do with them. This video especially. I've gotta try this for future miters for case work. Thanks for sharing these videos!

Excellent idea! Time to make an L-fence!

Makes so much sense…I have one of those L-Fences and will be trying this out later in the week. Thanks again Phil…these short films are invaluable. 👏🏻👏🏻👊🏻👊🏻

So the size of the template determines the final size of the piece?

I love this idea. I just made a large mitered case and I had quite a time getting the opposing pieces exactly the same size. I'm going to give this a shot next time I do one. Thanks for sharing.

This is such a great tip. Ive always struggled with my track saw doing mitres in hardwood. I can imagine being comfortable cutting a mitre in a fairly long part with no problem with this method. I’ll definitely use this!

Thanks for the video Philip. Very clever idea. Looks like I need to build an L fence. Just curious what you used initially to set the blade at 45 degrees? Angle cube or perhaps some other measurement tool?

I was wondering the same thing! I have one of those lil magnetic guys from Klein tools but I wasn't sure if 1/10th of a degree is actually accurate enough for this long a miter

Thank you. Yes I initially start out with one of those digital angle cubes. Then I cut four pieces exactly the same length and miter them and do a dry fit..if it looks good then it’s good if it’s not I make small adjustments. Hope that makes sense. Cheers

Yeah this is great. Just did a piece recently and this would have been invaluable.

You didn’t check for square, or use any clamping squares. Is that because your dialed in the angles off camera?

do you set the blade degree to exactly 45°?I've heard some people set it to slightly more such as 45.2 degrees. I'm wondering if you feel this is necessary or if it's just better to set it exactly 45?
