Most furniture makers will tell you that it is a rare occasion when you get a chance to make something for yourself or your family. I was lucky enough to find some time to make this wedged mortise and tenon tea rack for my wife.
This was a really fun project and I know it will get lots of use. You can get a plans to make your own tea rack here - philipmorleyfurniture.com/sho...

Great post. I love the Ishitani Furniture style video showing a craftsmen work through a project without trying to explain steps.

Really enjoyable video. I almost felt like a fly on the wall watching this. Really like the mixture of hybrid techniques; starting with measuring by hand, moving on to cutting with machines, moving on to pairing by hand, followed by more machines, then onto spokeshaves, rasps, and saws and spraying by hand after mixing your own finish. Really nice work, Philip.

Very well designed aesthetically, and really nice solutions to joinery and design. This is the first video I've seen of yours, but will keep watching for sure. What I found particularly interesting is the choice of the wedge placement that seems to contradict the paradigm of them being inserted cross grain instead of parallel as we see here. Have you noticed any cracking or splitting from that since since then? Genuinely curious, not here to preach. Thank you in advance

This was such a great video. I hesitated when I saw how long the video was. But it kept my attention the whole time. Very nicely done. Thank you for putting out such great content!

are the wedges just for show? seems like they would add stress to the long grain. if they are functional i think you would orient the wedges/slots such that the force from spreading the wedge landed on end grain instead of against grain. just curious because i am working on a similar joint for a project. either way great video really well made. i've learned a lot from you keep it up man!

Phil, really nice project. Could you help me understand how referenced the router jig for the loose tenons? When you prefinished are you not worried about getting the finish into the mortises for the shelves?

Pat M he’s got a video about the router setup that’s really good
@Philipmorleyfurniture
@Philipmorleyfurniture 6 жыл бұрын
Hey Pat, not sure if you are talking about the guide bushing router template in which case I used dowels to locate off of the edge and bottom. For my horizontal mortiser, it is simply referenced off of a center line and the x-y tables have stops. In bigger project, I tape off the mortises but I’m this project it isn’t necessary.
@Belg1970
@Belg1970 6 жыл бұрын
So at around 7 minutes in you drill two holes in the next scene your putting the jig to work. In those holes you put dowels?
