I've heard this sung by baritones, tenors, sopranos, contraltos, and trebles. But there's something about this particular song that just seems to blossom with a countertenor's voice.

It was originally sung by a castrato, I think, and his-Farinelli’s-life was made into a movie with a counter tenor. I’m still trying to find the movie. You can find this song by two different counter tenors in full regalia, one a clip from the movie.

Скрипичное прошлое не позволяет ему небрежно относиться к каждому звуку, безвкусно отнестись к аутентичному тексту, терять точную ровную вокальную позицию. Одно удовольствие слышать такой профессионализм с утонченной харизмой👏👏👏👏🎶и оркестру браво! 💖

Столько раз слышала этот волшебный голос, но все не могу привыкнуть. Ангельский, дар Божий! И с годами только лучше. Столько чувств, оттенков, смыслов передаёт Филипп своим голосом!... И какой бархатный , чувственный окрас тембра. А техника! Все есть у этого замечательного певца . 🎼🎵👑Дай Бог здоровья и многих лет на сцене!

Jaroussky est un magicien! On est "ailleurs" dès qu'on l'écoute. Cette interprétation est superbe; l'orchestre ajoute un soutien envoûtant . Il y a vraiment , artistiquement parlant, une élite dans notre humanité, ces musiciens en font partie. Merci.
