I bought a new coffee machine because our old one didn't work anymore and as a birthday present for myself. After many days searching the internet and watching two german videos about it I decided to buy the new Philips LatteGo EP5447/90. I couldn't find any English video about it during the time I was searching for it here on KZfaq. So I thought, why not create a video about it. So here we go.

I had a Lattego 3200 which I really liked, however my sister liked it as well so I sold it to her and upgraded to this Philips Lattego 5400 several months ago. Everyone who uses both of our models really likes them and the drinks they make. I can’t see myself ever not having a Philips Lattego again.

I enjoy drinking my coffee every day. Don’t forget to service the machine once in a while. I made a extended warranty contract when I bought mine. It enables me to get it serviced for four years.

Please brew about 4 coffee just to get the machine started before you can really get into detail with creating your own settings. The first ones didn't taste as well as the ones it produces now.

Thank you very much. I guess you might have to increase the amount of coffee in the recipes. In the Basic settings the coffee taste isn’t very strong. Please also make about 3 coffees first to find the right grinding settings.

@@choschiba Thank you for your advise. This will be my first machine. Have used these kind of coffee machines only at my job. I'm very excited. It should arrive within next three working days. Will you make also a video where you are showing how to clean the machine and how often. Of course I will use instructions, but I enjoy to watch videos more. ❤️

I will record a video of the cleaning process once my water filter needs to be replaced. Then I will record a video of all the maintenance steps all together.

Today I received my coffee machine. After setup up I made three Café au lait. For me I think the best settings are full coffee bar with extra shot, milk and water leaves on recommended settings. Otherwise by adding to much water it don't tastes so good. I love strong coffee. Used Caprissimo coffee. I will experiment tomorrow with other drinks. 😊

I too want to say thank you for this video- very informative. I’ve actually watched it several times in anticipation of mine arriving in a couple of weeks. I thought maybe of making 1 request/ idea for you- now that it’s been several months maybe you could do a video of your thoughts now. What do you think of the machine now, any problems? Also what adjustments to the machine did you make to better the espresso? Just my thoughts- thank you again

Dear Cat, Thank you for the wonderfully detailed review! Nothing like it online! Much appreciated. I was thinking about a DeLonghi vs. this Philips but I really want an easy to clean machine including a milk container without a hose! Can you tell us what your older machine was? Can you also make a video showing us the cleaning process and what the grinder looks like after a week or so of use? Please include any comments if it is easy to clean out the coffee grounds inside and how to grease again? Does Philips indicate how hot the brewing temperature is? It seems to me that it is key to getting a good espresso. Thank you for your hard work!

Hello dear Melanie. The old machine didn't even have a system with a milk container. And it was a Swiss local brand that isn't available international. I've uploaded the initial review. You will find the answers to you question there. :-)

Thank you for a very detailed review! If I can ask you a question, does this model also spit out a little water before it starts? (It does not look like that in the video but still want to ask, that's the only thing we do not like with the older model)

It does spit out a bit of water. My old machine did the same. It's not much. But if you know you simple pour it out.

I guess you will have to make some adjustments to the coffee settings in order to suite your personal taste. The factory settings might be far to mild. Please report how you like once you have bought it.

Please watch my other video about my initial thoughts about the machine. There I show my settings. What you can try first is turn the knob to adjust the grinding size. When you grind finer the coffee will taste stronger.

I guess the version that I have might be launched a bit later in the US. And that one would have the right voltage. You can‘t adapt it.

The smaller the number, the finer the powder. Please only turn the knob while machine is grinding!

Can you pls explain how to change grinder level ? If i change it to left side ? Is it more low grinder size(1) it makes me confused :(. It doesnt show where it stays actually . There are just arrows but there is no indication that shows where it is now.. what level it shows when it comes originally?

To tell you the truth I haven’t tested that yet. The coffee producer I buy coffee from told me to leave it on that setting. So I haven’t changed anything. And the coffee tastes perfect the way it is. So why should I change it

@@choschiba cuz espresso gets better when you grind it finer. I looked at the coffee after brew it looks too coarse

The lower the number, the finer the coffee is grinded. Brew 2-3 coffees to really taste a difference. I found this in the instructions Page 21 in the trouble shooting chapter. You should have the instructions.

Yes, you can use these tablets. For mechanical dirt you should take out the brew group and rinse it under water without using soap. Otherwise you decrease the amount of lubricant on the moving parts.

The plate is a bit warm. But it’s not really a cup warmer. I always fill those thick espresso cups with hot water from the hot water sprout. Then I wait until they have heated up and then brew the espresso.

You can adjust the amount for each recipe and each user.And you can adjust the temperature of the water in the settings which has an influence on both the coffee and the milk temperature.

It's 200ml in one run. But you can tell the machine to grind twice and then create various scenarios. 2x120ml =240ml, 2x160ml=320ml or even2x200ml=400ml. It's up to you how strong you want it because that's also adjustable. I still have to try the Americano.

I guess they might handle to product portfolio and the names for the models individually for every region. But I guess the functions as such should be similar to the one that I have. Important is that you can tune the recipes of your coffee creations individually. And the LatteGo froth option should be the same.

I guess it might help if you watch the 3 videos about the machine from start to finish. I am describing everything there really well. I really like mine. The coffee tastes really well.

Yes, of course you should clean all parts. I have cut the video in order to make it shorter. Otherwise it would have been to long.

@@choschiba omg i didnt clean 😂 i just wash the water tank and milk tank:(( should i clean other parts too:( i already drank my cappuccino .. and i got hot water it feels like low temperature even i picked the highest level. And i changed it to highest level from the settings too

You can set the temperature in the settings. We have to choose the lowest setting on mine. Otherwise the coffee is far to hot for us. If yours is still not hot enough on the hottest setting something doesn’t seem to work right. I would get it exchanged or fixed under warranty.

Grüß dich, könntest du mir bitte verraten, ob die Standfüße sehr weit außen sind? Unser Kaffeestellplatz hat leider nur 40cm Tiefe und das Gerät ist laut Produktbeschreibung 433 mm Tief. Ich würde wollen, dass die Füße voll auf der Fläche aufsetzen. Wenn die Tropfschale etwas rausragen würde wäre das kein Drama :) Vielen Dank

Also die vorderen Füße sind bei 27cm gemessen von der Rückwand Seite angebracht. Die Tropfschale beginnt bei 33cm

Lasst mich wissen wie sie Euch gefällt. Die Stärke des Kaffees und die Wasser und Milchmenge müsst ihr erhöhen! Bitte erst einmal ca. 4 Kaffee durchlaufen lassen. Sonst schmeckt es noch nicht so gut.
