You are the first person (hearing aid video) to explain that the Audeo "P" stands for Paradise. Thank you! It's been driving me nuts to figure that out. I knew I had Phonax Audeo P and I knew mine's a P90. I thought the Audeo and the Paradise were 2 different animals. Again, thanks for your video. Subscribed and liked

Thank you for uploading this tutorial Dave. I have Unitron hearing aids, they look so much like the ones you tear down. I thought there was something wrong with mine, wax build and dust build gradually blocks the internal mics, so effectively as your hearing aids get older there is again a gradual loss of hearing. Your video gave me the confidence to strip mine down to find the internal mics were almost completely blocked. Thanks again Dave for an excellent video

I like that you took the hearing aid apart. I have a Unitron blu, it's the sibling of the Phonak audeo paradise, they both share the same chip and a lot of the same features. I have a question for you, how do you change the filter on the microphone? The old device I had before had a filter on the outside that was pulled out with a needle and a new one inserted into the appropriate slot with a finger. I bought hearing aids on ebay, programmed them myself and would like to learn how to change the filter myself.

Hi Markic, that's a great question! Unfortunately I don't have a Moxi Blu hearing aid here to check. Is there a pin that holds the housing of the hearing aids? If yes, I think it will be the best to remove the pins from the hearing aid to open it. Then you can access the microphones to change the filters. (That's how you do it with the Phonak hearing aids) However, if there's no pin I have to honestly say that I don't know how to change the filters. Hope that helps! Best, Dave

Hi,I am a teacher in a school. In noisy classrooms,My hearind aid(Audio Q 50) increases the sound too much. If I use paradise p 70,Would it help.?
@hearingaids-Dave
@hearingaids-Dave 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Baris, Thank you for the great question. The short answer is: probably yes. I also got a longer answer below: The P70 has some advancements that make them perform better than the Q50 when it comes to understanding. However, understanding in noise is still an issue for most hearing aids. Most RIE hearing aids are fitted with standard silicone domes (the small thin plastic tips that go in the ear - not sure if that`s the case with your Q50 devices), which leads to situations where pretty much noise from your environment can enter the ear and cover the amplified speech. My advice would be to get a pair of p70 with custom-made ear pieces. Your speech understanding won't be the same like with a new ear, but you'll definitely experience some improvements. Hope that helps. Best, Dave

@hearingaids-Dave
@hearingaids-Dave 2 жыл бұрын
Hi there, unwanted screaming high pitched sounds (called feedback) can appear for various reasons. It's good that you got your ears cleaned, as clogged ears can be one reason for getting feedback. First, I have some questions: Does the feedback appear regularly? All day or only in specific situations? Or after wearing the hearing aids for some hours? Did the VA consider using another ear piece that might fit better and did they perform a new feedback calibration? For me there are some ways to get rid of your feedback problem, and it will probably help to try all of them: If it hasn't been doe before: get a new ear piece and a new feedback calibration programmed into your hearing aids. Also get checked that your ear piece has a good fit in your ear canal and that it stays in place! (its important that the ear piece won't move out - not even a little). If that doesn't help you'll want to get less amplification for the high frequencies. That might affect your speech understanding, but if done right it will definitely stop the feedback. Hope that help, please keep me posted! Best, Dave

Hello. I'm planning on settling with the P50 due to budget constraints. I'm planning on using it during my speaker duties in conferences at training halls. Do you think the noise cancelling feature would work better as compared to the P70? And is the upgrade worth it?
@hearingaids-Dave
@hearingaids-Dave 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Onika, That's a great question. I suppose that you are interested if the noise cancelling feature will improve your understanding of questions from the audience. The P50 as well as the P70 have the "Speech in Noise" program integrated, which helps you to understand speech in noisy environments. However, these programs are designed for speech from near sources. So these programs will probably help you to understand people near you, but they won't be too helpful when it comes to understanding questions from an audience that is further away. So to answer your question: the P50 and the P70 have the same "Speech in Noise" program and the difference in understanding between the two devices will be very minor. I would recommend to check out the Phonak Roger hearing solutions. These are accessories that can probably help you, ie. the Roger On. You can find them here: www.phonak.com/us/en/hearing-aids/accessories/roger.html Hope that helps! Best, Dave

@hearingaids-Dave
@hearingaids-Dave 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark, Thank you for your great question. I’m not Dr. Cliff but I’ll try to help you out. First of all: a new provider can read the current fitting out of your hearing aids. This information also often contains details about your hearing loss. However if your new provider really takes the time to analyze your hearing and explain everything to you he will probably make a new hearing test with you and base his fitting on the new test. If you want your existing information transferred to your new provider your former Dr. might charge some bucks for that (but that differs from one provider to another). However this information might be helpful for your new Dr. to get a better understanding of your hearing, so I recommend taking this information to the new provider. Hope this was helpful for you. @hearingaids-Dave Жыл бұрын
Hi Muhammed, that’s a great question. The difference between the 312 and the rechargeable version is, that the P90-R is a little bit „thicker“ than the 312 version. That’s usually no problem, but when a person is wearing glasses he’ll have to make sure, that there is enough space behind his ears to fit both the hearing aids and the temple. There is no difference in the technology or in the sound quality. Hope that helps. Best, Dave

@hearingaids-Dave
@hearingaids-Dave 3 жыл бұрын
Hi and thank you for your great comment! In this video I say that I had removed the battery before, because it's a battery powered device (not a rechargeable one). The thing is: Phonak's rechargeable hearing aids have a built-in battery which is not designed to get replaced. Phonak offers some kind of guarantee for their rechargeable devices, however I'm not sure if that is still valid when it comes to used devices (probably not). So that's what I would keep in mind if I wanted to go for used hearing aids: if the rechargeable battery loses it's capacity it will almost certainly not be replaceable. Wish you all the best! Dave
@valueseekinguy
@valueseekinguy 3 жыл бұрын
@@hearingaids-Dave Well, this means, when the big names convert all their HA's to 'rechargeable' (as some would suggest is in the future) the manufacturers think they will have eliminated the used market completely? This also seems to be the way with cell phones where the batteries are sealed into the cases. Of course we have worked around that in phones and replacements for the non-replaceables are readily available. Just wondered if the non-replaceable batteries in hearing aids are soldered in or plugged in as they are in cell phones? As you have demonstrated, anything put together can also be taken apart. Thanks again.

@hearingaids-Dave
@hearingaids-Dave 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Issam, Thank you for your question. The issue you describe is pretty common with high-frequency hearing loss which makes it hard to understand (as you said, volume is not the problem), specially in noisy surroundings or group conversations. In my opinion this is no question for the right hearing aid brand, as most major manufacturers can handle this issue with their products (and to answer your question: yes, Phonak can help with their products). I believe you should focus on the right fitting and adjustment of your hearing aids. The first step should be a visit at an Audiologist/hearing aid professional you're comfortable with. There you'll get your hearing tested and after that an experienced professional can evaluate if/how hearing aids can help you. Second step is to test hearing aids for 2-4 weeks. This gives you a feeling how these devices work and your Audiologist/hearing professional can make some adjustments to optimize your hearing. And yes, it is absolutely ok when you hear "different" at the very beginning. It is also normal if you don't understand everything after the first days. Getting used to hearing aids may take some time, depending on your hearing loss and hearing aids. Important: talk to your Audiologist/hearing professional. Ask him what he/she is doing and why. Describe your feelings with the hearing aids and where you seek improvements. Although hearing aids are not "new ears" they can highly improve your hearing and your quality of life. Hope that help! Best, Dave

@hearingaids-Dave
@hearingaids-Dave 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Joseph, Thank you for the great question. You can get the most out of your hearing aids by wearing them regularly, every day all day is the best practice. That assumes, that your hearing aids have been professionally adjusted first. A customized earpiece can often improve the sound and fit of the hearing aids. A great feature (if not the greatest) is the direct audio streaming function that brings phone calls directly into your hearing aids. I absolutely recommend using that. If you're having trouble connecting your hearing aids to the app, your hearing aid professional can assist you with that. Most people enjoy that these hearing aids change their hearing program automatically according to changing noise environments. However, sometimes you're in situations where you want different programming for your hearing aids. If that is you, then your hearing professional can make an extra hearing program for you, which you can activate from the smartphone app. The Phonak App also contains advanced settings, so you can adjust hearing programs yourself from your smartphone. That's a nice feature but rarely used, because in most situations the automated programs are doing a pretty good job. In a nutshell: proper fitting and regular use lead to maximum use ;) Hope that helps. Best, Dave

Does it helps in speech clarity or just increases volume like other hearing aids???Will it helps im profound hearing loss case to understand speeches ???
@hearingaids-Dave
@hearingaids-Dave 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Fazal, Thank you for your question. The Phonak Audéo P has many channels to program the amplification for a certain hearing loss. This usually produces better speech clarity. However it will still amplify some of the surrounding sounds which can’t be avoided. In any case it does more than just increase the volume of all sounds. There are different receivers available to cover most degrees of hearing loss from mild to profound. Also for profound hearing loss the hearing aids can help to understand speech more clearly. In any case you have to keep in mind that hearing aids can only help as much as the individual hearing loss allows, which means that some ears are so much „damaged“ that the best hearing aids won’t restore full speech understanding. Hope that helps! Best, Dave

If you get a trial period depends on the audiologist/hearing aid dispenser you go to. Most will offer a money-back guarantee for the first few weeks, however this differs greatly between the professionals. You better talk to 2-3 and pick the best for you. High frequency hearing loss is very common, so they should be able to treat it pretty well.

How long does the battery last?
@hearingaids-Dave
@hearingaids-Dave 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Albert, that's a great question. There are devices with size 312 and size 13 batteries as well as rechargeable ones. Usually a size 312 battery lasts for 4-6 days and a size 13 battery lasts for 6-8 days - without streaming! As soon as you use Bluetooth to stream music or make phone calls over the hearing aids, battery life is reduced significantly. The rechargeable versions should last 16 hours including 8 hours of streaming (numbers from Phonak) so you will easily get through the day with them. I'm convinced that rechargeable hearing aids will be the future as you don't have to change tiny batteries and the charging is really easy. Hopefully the rechargeable batteries last five years or more, because up to now there is no way to change them. Best, Dave
