Phonak Paradise Hearing Aids were released today, Value Hearing's Bondi Junction audiologist, Emma Russel, gives us her first impression after her training with Phonak. Emma used to work for Phonak, so understands the brand well:
Hi there, welcome back to Value Hearing's youtube channel. I'm Emma, a clinical audiologist and today what I want to talk about is the Phonak Paradise hearing aid. I'm
talking about that today because it's been released today the first of September here
in Australia. I did attend along with most of the staff at Value Hearing, a two-hour
workshop online about the Phonak Paradise just last week. So, this is just a video to basically give you a bit of an overview of what looks to be quite exciting about this launch and what it means for you as a potential hearing aid wearer or current hearing aid wearer looking for new technology. So, very quick background Phonak released a hearing aid called
Marvel in, it was hugely successful for them and this new Phonak paradise is just
building on the marvel, so not a huge amount has changed from the marvel there's just a
few additions. They have changed the chipset so it
does have twice the memory that was available with marvel and that seems to be what's really
driving a lot of these new features that they weren't able to offer before.

Hi Jack, Hope you're still enjoying your new Paradise hearing aids. We're finding that pairing directly to Bluetooth-enabled TVs can be a bit hit and miss. Sometimes it can be resolved by changing your TV settings, but some of our clients are finding that it's more stable and a better sound quality to use the TVConnector accessory for TV streaming.

UPDATE: Dec 7, 2021 After almost 1 year with Phonak Paradise P90 with rechargeable batteries I'm having HA problems. In May 2021 I sent my right HA back as it was shutting down completely randomly. I had the right HA sent back to Phonak and came back I guess OK. No word what happened or was wrong. Now in June the right HA shutdown by itself and was full charged as it has been int he past The only way out was a HARD Reset which took a few times to achieve but started backup ok. Now Dec started and the right HA started to shut down again by itself and was unable to turn back on even after been sitting in charger and still no lights on HA at all. I tried two time with a hard reset and finally came back to life. HARD RESET STEPS 1. Hold the low volume for over 30 seconds. Lights may or may not come on or off but don't worry about this. 2. After holding the down volume for over 30 seconds place in charger and wait. At this time, it may or may not come back to life but look for a green flashing or sold light before removing. Sometimes it may take a few tries, but I was told holding it long than 30 seconds is OK as I have held it for over 1 minute then place it in the charger. Have scheduled for appointment next Tuesday with my Audiologist. Wish me luck.

I see there is a rechargeable vs 13 battery model in a P90. What limitations do the battery vs rechargeable models as I see the battery does not offer tap control?
@ValueHearing
@ValueHearing 3 жыл бұрын
@medic550 The biggest difference is that the rechargeable option offers motion sensors in the hearing aids, which can change how the microphones function when there is noise and movement detected. This, of course, also allows for tap control. The size 13 battery model offers a telecoil as well (so would need the RT model in the rechargeable for this feature).

I'm looking forward to trying it.
@ValueHearing
@ValueHearing 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Dee, something definitely doesn't sound right here, you should talk to your audiologist. They should not unpair when they are separated by 10m, just disconnect. It should be easy to get them to reconnect. However, you will most likely enjoy the bluetooth streaming on Phonak more, our clients reports that the quality from the Phonak streaming is much better than what they have gotten from Resound. Let us know how you go!!

How would you compare Widex Moment and Phonak Paradise. I mean sound processing, are they both equally high quality, I mean equally good sound processing processors?
@ValueHearing
@ValueHearing 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Markic, they are both at the top of the market when it comes to speech audibility in noise. However, they have generally taken quite different approaches in their signal processing in order to achieve this, but it looks like the new signal processing strategy from Phonak is emulating some of Widex's strategies. It'll be interesting to see how it goes. Some hearing losses will still be more suited to Widex and vice versa. Hope that helps!

I am on 3rd week trying the naida paradise p90 up. I strange the ups and downs on the volume that it does by itself in different situations. How to fix it? Tia.
@ValueHearing
@ValueHearing 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Esther, thank you for your comment. The Autosense 4 would be choosing the program for you automatically. Some programs have much more aggressive noise reduction that could make it feel like the volume is dropping. You can ask your clinician to reduce the contrast between the programs for you, so that it doesn't feel so isolating. Alternatively you could use a manual program, where the settings are stable and use that when you feel you want things to be more steady.

Hi Ferdous, thank you for your lovely comment! The Naida on the Marvel chip was only released earlier this year, so it is likely to take at approximately another 18 months before it is released. However, the Bolero (BTE) is being released early next year and there is some indication that it will have some very powerful models released with it so you may find you don't need to wait for Naida in order to access the power that you require. Great video and most informative! I’m a log time hearing aid wearer and my last two aids were both Bluetooth enabled ; Starkey Halo & ReSoumd. My current audiologist is pitching Phonak , the new Paradise. My concern is what level she’s pitching may be based on price and Medicare allowances here in the USA, What premium levels are best. 50 or 70?
@ValueHearing
@ValueHearing 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ron, The Phonak P90 is the premium level, followed by P70, P50 and P30 in decreasing order. The level of technology required would really depend on how you hear in noise. At Value Hearing, we always advocate speech in noise testing, which helps narrow down the selection to the level of technology that you need to support your brain in order to hear best in noise.

@@ValueHearing Thanks for the reply and update. I'm a three decade hearing aid user, so I'm fairly knowledgeable. I've had Starkey Halo's, ReSound and now these P 50's. I'm not really sure they're on a par with either of my last two devices. Could just be the lousy service I'm getting from the United Healthcare/Medicare provider who's not an audiologist. The service and attention from COSTCO (ReSounds) were better. The app, I'm learning but it too is not up to the Smart 3 D!

@ValueHearing
@ValueHearing 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Issam, Sounds like you have a high frequency hearing loss. The sounds you've indicated are softer high pitched sounds. Depending on the severity of the hearing loss in the high frequencies, most well-fitted hearing aids should accomplish this. Real Ear Measurements are of utmost importance to ensure the hearing aids are giving you access to those sounds for YOUR ears. Phonak hearing aids certainly offer a natural sound quality and also have features that can provide more access to soft sounds and those high pitched sounds in particular. Best to talk to an audiologist and also undergo speech in noise testing and have ongoing support with hearing aids to ensure that you continue to receive optimal results from your hearing aids.

First time hearing aid wearer and have been trialing the P70s for a month now. Having trouble with Bluetooth connectivity with my iPhone Xr. Streaming music and phone calls will temporarily drop out based on where my phone is with respect to the hearing aids. This is especially true when outside. Is this a known problem/limitation with the Phonak Paradises? Or possibly a problem with my pair?
@ValueHearing
@ValueHearing 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Joe, the transmission range for Bluetooth is approximately 10 metres, and can be subject to interferences, e.g. flourescent lighting, microwaves, excessive power cables, large bodies of water etc. Being out of range or near interferences can cause a temporary drop out. Also, the Bluetooth Classic pairing from your phone to your hearing aids is only paired to one hearing aid (which transmits the audio to the other hearing aid). So if you tend to carry your phone in a pocket, make sure you put it on the side of your body that matches the hearing aid paired to your phone for the most stable connection. We have a video on Bluetooth issues and hearing aids coming soon, so keep an eye out for this!
