A big reason most people can’t get a flat back on the bike is generally because their hamstrings are too tight to allow their pelvis to roll forward. The rounded shoulders end up being a compensatory position. Split RDLs, split good mornings, and stretching got me from not being able to touch my knees to flat palms. Posture was great standing but terrible on the bike. That fixed it pretty quickly

Cheers mate. For sure, everything is related. One tight or restricted area, will lead to issues in other areas as you described. Interestingly for a lot of riders who come to me with 'tight hamstrings' it is in fact short, weak hip flexors and an anterior tilt of the pelvis that causes the issue. Hip flexor mobility and strengthening can then have a really positive effect on the pelvis and back posture as a whole.

Great video as always Ben, good things to think about when riding next and posture exercises. Keep up the good work on the vids. Oh, just a quick question, where are your blue riding pants from, looking for some decent ones that aren't black. Cheers

Cheers mate. Those are Troy Lee Skyline pants in Azure colour! tidd.ly/49aAUGr I really like them as they are pretty fitted and stretchy. Not very weather proof, but good 3 season pants and surprisingly tough for the weight.

Great video man! I suffer from this and it is something I have been working on for a while now, will definitely use your tips and exercises. Also, as a professional Instructor/Coach, this posture is something I see in my clients all the time... I will be pointing them to this video. Thx!

I have a unique problem with getting into the proper riding position. When I was 70 years old I had a complete reverse shoulder replacement. To attach the prosthetic the surgeon had to cut away some bone from the top of my arm and from my collarbone. The result is that the distance from my spine to my left shoulder is a couple of inches shorter than the distance between my spine to my right shoulder. When I comfortably reach for the grips on my bike, my right hand lands on the outside of the grip. My left hand lands on the inside of the grip. This puts unequal pressure on the handlebar and puts me in a slightly twisted riding position. I have been seeking advice from different sources but have not had a response. Can you help me figure out what I can do? Thank you.

Have you tried mounting the bars rotated to the left? Might look out of line, but probably the easiest way to bring the left grip closer while maintaining equal distance between each hand and the headset

I would just trim the bar down on the short side, and see what happens. There is no text book answer. Just have to try some things. You will be able to learn to ride with uneven hands I think. Proceed at your own risk though! Good luck.

Your bike is too small and your handlebar is too low...

hahaha - I love it! I can assure you that I'm really happy and comfortable with the reach on my bike thanks. I also recently tried a taller bar setup and didn't like it, so went back down.
