As of May 2019 the kit with 15-45mm EF-M lens ran me $599USD. Amazon shows the kit with the 18-150mm lens running $799. Shopping around, I see some sites where the prices are lower (as always, buy from a reputable dealer even if it costs a bit more). I've always loved the color rendition produced by Canon cameras and the EOS M6 hasn't disappointed me. What blew me away was the size of the camera, which looked tiny when placed next to my Sony DSLR. I have small hands and had pretty much shelved the Sony for a nice Nikon point & shoot because of the size factor. The Canon is a perfect size; I also like the weight compared with the P&S as it helps my aging hands hold it a little more steady. I'm still learning all the features of the EOS M6 and am very happy with my purchase.

Love my M6, great for travel, seriously underrated alternative to a DSLR...and I can use all my old lenses with the adapter.

I absolutely love my M6. It was phenomenal as a travel camera and as someone who has only used entry level DSLRs wanting to shoot more video, the M6 was the perfect upgrade. I must say the best part about moving from a DSLR to mirrorless is the size!!

I have the M3 and it's a great 1080 video camera. I was really hoping the M6 would have had 4k. I don't know what Canon is thinking dropping the ball on 4k like they have. Sony and Panasonic are leading the way in 4k for sure. Maybe Canon is happy to retreat to only stills like Nikon seems to have done several years back.

John Yang yea I bought the m6 2 weeks ago and was fruatrated about it not having 4k. You can upscale the video to 4k and it'll have a better video quality when you upload to KZfaq. Its a great camera except it missing 4k

Can you recommend a camera, mirrorless, that records longer video clips? Or is there a way to record the M6 footage to an external and extend the record time?

Good review. The M6 is an interesting idea, I shoot Canon DSLRs for stills and picked up an M6 partly out of curiosity but also I have a particular project I might use it on. I use a Lumix G80 for 4k video and having to faff around sorting out different lenses for that was a bit of a pain especially the x2 crop factor, the good thing with the M6 is I don't have that problem as via the adapter I can just use whatever EF & EFS lenses I already have so this camera is ideal for people who already own a Canon setup in terms of lenses. Using the Lumix G80 which is a very good video camera though the manual focus on the M6 is superior, has convinced me that for my needs 4k is just not important right now. But for those who think 4k is crucial and are not yet into full blooded video production, I suspect that for the majority of people, a smartphone with 4k video would probably be better value for money for them than buying any particular camera of whatever brand.

+John Haynes I agree with the above. The actual video review itself was shot at 1080p and uploaded at 1080p. It's easier to store and edit, and the vast majority of people still don't have 4K screens, although that is quickly changing. There are lots of advantages of 4K, such as being able to punch in and out of the final upload is in 1080p. And for me it's about cherished moments of my children growing up that I want to shoot as best I can to give them a little more longevity. However, I still think Canon could be picking up huge market share if they had a Dual Pixel AF 4K sensor. I guess it is only a matter of time. (@richsibley)

Yes, I am working on various video projects of my own that combine video, stills, drawings, scans, 2D and 3D animation plus, teaching myself the ever so more complex video production workflow needed compared to editing still RAW files, I abandoned 4k because it just slows me down when it comes to rendering stuff out, no surprise it is x4 the data throughput and of no value to me whilst in 'learning mode'! Hear what you are saying about your kids, I'm way into grandfather territory now but it is one of the things I admire about Panasonic, they try to build in to all their cameras lots of tricks from burst modes and so on to enable even very novice camera users to capture those 'fleeting family moments'. My attitude is distinctly anti fan boy, I owe loyalty only to me and my wallet. For now my camera kit meets my needs and it is all pretty durable stuff so it will last a time. When I reach the point it isn't doing what I want, I will take a look at what is available that meets my then needs regardless of which brand it is and judge the cost in terms of the overall deal. It is not that there aren't better cameras out there than those I have but I'm into using cameras rather than buying them.

John Haynes I have eos m3. I want to upgrade. is it lumix g85 or m6. I have 2 lens efm and 1 lens efs. should I go to lumix g85 if i want videography with little photo. is is g85 auto focus still ok ?
@johnhaynes99107 жыл бұрын
If you want just one as an "all round camera" with an emphasis on video then the G80/85 is the one to go for, the 12-60 kit lens is very good and whilst you can get adapters to use your current Canon lenses on it, as 'native' lenses are always better, consider trading them in. Using native lenses on the G80/85 is fine as far as focus is concerned though obviously not as good as Canon's dual pixel which is really crisp. Although I can use all my Canon lenses on my M6 and the lens adapter has a tripod mount, in reality as most of my lenses are EF L ones used for wildlife etc, they look frankly a bit ridiculous mounted on the M6 and are not suitable in handling terms I do have a couple of lighter EF-S lenses which are fine..

thank you for your reply. I remember when I want to shot bird using manual in EOS M3. It was disaster because there is only red indicator sometimes I lost focus. Is it Lumix G80/85 better with zebra indicator when it is in manual mode ? with slighly different price M6 no viewfinder which I never used in M3 but I really need when do family photograph at noon. Canon has cheap price in every EFM lenses. Why I want to upgrade to M6 or G85 beside of 1080 60 fps is timelapse. Please is it AF of G85 good enough ? or really terrible ? I'm still confuse to decide or maybe M6 is enough (no IBIS and no viewfinder). I don't need 4K my computer cannot run it.

@Zakalwe-017 жыл бұрын
Really enjoyed the review...much more sanguine about the product. Some confusing decisions here. The constant feature swings between version suggests that Canon doesn't have a clear vision for the camera. For a pocketable power camera, I'd get a first gen A7.
@Photogearnews7 жыл бұрын
+Iain as a standalone product it does what it does well. Sometimes I think we get carried away with features we expect rather than those we really need. 4K is great, and I think Canon are lacking... but on the other hand, the video you are watching here was shot and uploaded in 1080p at 25fps; those with 4K screens are still in the minority. Personally I try and shoot in 4K to future proof my footage - particularly family videos so that future generations can watch them at the best quality available at the time, my children will probably watching in 16K before too long. hi you did not say anything about battery life which is around 300 picture is this true. what number would it be if using flash with pictures. the camera only has 7 native lenses so you have to fit ef lenses. you can buy adapters for around 10 pound not canon. what is it like when taking photos in really low light without flash eg in a poorly lite place were you cant use flash. and you missed out it is not weather sealed so what amount of rainy weather should you not use in. is not having a view finder any great loss

I’d rather put my money buying the new iPhone 8 with 4K and with an improved camera module. No one buys a $1K camera anymore without GOOD quality 4K video with 24P and some sort of log profile. Like many others my fondness for Canon has died along with their product innovations they have greatly lost their appeal like a Blackberry.
