Photographing sunflowers at SUNRISE // sunflower field photoshoot in Maryland

Do you prefer photographing sunrises or sunsets? I'm usually more of a sunset shooter, but this week I decided to wake up at the crack of dawn and photograph the sunrise - at a beautiful sunflower field! I flew my drone over the coolest foggy landscape, I did some long exposure photography of the sunflower field and I did a little bit of macro photography of some of the bees and other insects that I encountered.
This is one of four fields at McKee Beshers Wildlife Management Area in Poolesville, Maryland. A beautiful place, but also very crowded during the sunflowers' peak bloom. I hope you enjoyed experiencing this sunrise with me!

Thanks for the inspiration! After a year in the photographic doldrums, I decided to get out and photograph some stars. Nothing beats those quiet moments with a flask of tea while the camera clicks away the next timelapse. It's bicycle everywhere for me ( The land is as flat as a pancake here and you cant' get cars to the best sites) Took a tumble on the way home and messed my shoulder up. Couldn't even use a mouse for editing, even less carry a camera bag for some weeks. I've been using the occasional 'twinge' in my shoulder as an excuse ever since. Your early rising has inspired me. Thank you.

Yay!! A Nicole Glass video! I stopped at the 5:12 mark to comment, after you mentioned your weather disaster marring your anticipated sunset over the sunflower grove. The first photography channel I watched regularly was Digital Rev, with Kai Wong and company, who have since been fired and moved on. What made his videos hilarious- well, a lot of reasons- but he also seemed to incorporate disasters in his videos. In one he planned a whole session on photographing with his camera perched on a slidey panny thing that looked like a carpenter's level. He went to a park to discover the park was closed. Closed gate. Him standing in front of the closed gate sign went in the video as well as him setting up the slidey panning thing on a bridge for the demo. In another video he went to the beach VERY early, dark early, and incorporated all the problems he had with his tripod in wet sand. Audiences forgive. Your video is beautiful. Awesome editing. It's gorgeous. I mean it's really gorgeous. Gorgeous, gorgeous. And now back to watching. :)

I like mornings on the East coast, sunsets on the west and "High Noon" at the movie theater. Although Malta looks interesting at high noon. Malta has interesting light any time. PCH during the summer is overcast in the morning so sunsets work me. I live at the mouth of the Columbia and you really need a reason to come here so tourists are only a mild nuance, at least where I live. PCH is a world unto itself.

I know right!? Fog is a rare occurrence here in Southern Utah. We do have some epic landscapes though. I don't know where you live but wherever you are you can find or make something beautiful.

This was a very appropriate video as I'm headed to photograph a sunflower field next month when it opens up to visitors. Last year we had a derecho hit Iowa and it flattened all the sunflowers so I didn't get a chance to go photograph them. Hopefully this year will be the year!

@@NicoleGlass you certainly seemed to enjoy the beauty, freshness and silence of sunrise over the valley, not to mention some tule fog (we call on the west coast) to add to beautiful morning. I finally got glasses (filters) for the drone, did some flights citrus groves recently, getting back on my flight plan, and of course land cameras.

I recently did a sunrise photo shoot unintentionally. Got up super early to try and get the Neowise comet, but it turned out I twas too light by the time I got out of town. Got some good sunrise shots to make up for it! P.S. Loved the bee macros!

Someone said, "If people would know that today would be the last sunrise they see in their life, they all would go to see it". Unfortunately, some people think they are going to live forever and instead waist their life watching TV till early hours in the morning then wake up at noon to repeat that cycle. Especially these days when 65 inch TV cost so little money anyone "must have it".

For sunflower fields/insects I wouldn't need any release forms. For clips of myself I just sign my own release form. I may sell a few of them but I don't have high expectations for this type of content, due to the fact that there's tons of sunflower fields on stock platforms already. I didn't do this for stock :)

Just depends how often you need those ultra close-ups. I don't use them very often, but they were also not very expensive.

I use a Canon 5D Mark IV. There are a lot of great cameras for beginners, when it comes to Canon, anything in the Rebel series is a good starting point
