Hummingbird Spot

4 жыл бұрын

The search for the rare Blue-bearded Helmetcrest hummingbird, a critically endangered species, ended at the Lagos de Sevilla in the Santa Marta Mountains of northern Colombia. We were able to photograph and video this magnificent bird. Less than one hundred people alive have even seen it and it has been photographed by far fewer. We are proud to present the first video of this bird published on KZfaq. We also photographed some of the other endemic bird species of the Santa Marta Mountains.
My name is Carole Turek and I am on a quest to photograph every single hummingbird species on the planet! There are over 350 types and I currently have photographed more than 150 of them.
Come with me virtually as I explore Central and South America to find the most beautiful hummingbirds in the world.

I am emotional about this video..... I was hopeful as all get out when you announced, then prepared for the hiking to find The blue-Bearded Helmetcrest... but I had to be patient... I watched you in your hard fought battles of strength and endurance while you reported your physical prep work... I think that is when I became attached to this project of yours and now wanted, no!, Needed you to achieve this goal... I was in it to win it. These videos have helped me through a very difficult moment in my life with my mother passing on 04-11-20. Watching the Hummingbird Spot daily video helped me weather the long migration period when I felt at a loss as to how I could get those birds back into my world... In my efforts I have purchased flowers I know not how to tend to make them flourish the way I see everyone else getting, seemingly without effort... I struggle... But the migration is over and my friends have all come back, and now the one male ruby-throat that guards the feeders is now allowing other birds to fly in his space, rather close too... I do not know what the birds are doing but I am happy to see it happening..... But this series of videos has been extra special to me. Seeing you working hard to be able to make the long journey to the mountain top gave me the opportunity to live vicariously and it was amazing. Somewhat saddened that you had "seen enough, already" in this trip, but again, that only gave me thoughts of what I would have Carol say during some of the comedy I'd have made of this video... if I was the director... hahaha haha Thank you Carol Thank you Hummingbird Spot

First of all, I am so sorry about your mother. You have my sincere condolences. I also lost my mom. When you’re a kid you assume your parents are going to be around forever. But as we get older and we start realizing the fragility of life, the anticipation and then final loss of loved ones takes a bite out of our hearts. I am very happy to have helped you through this trying time. I remember when my father passed, my mother swore that a robin in the backyard was my father. Every time she went out into the back yard, this robin would come down out of the tree and land not too far in front of her and just stare at her. It happened every time she went out there and it started spooking her. Finally she asked the robin, “Are you John?” It seemed as though the robin was then satisfied with being recognized and it flew away. Maybe the spirit of those we love do come back into the creatures we love. The Inca believed that hummingbirds were messengers from Heaven. They are perfect little jewels, and I am happy to share my experiences with all of these birds with you and with anyone else who wants to join me.

The area is supposedly protected, but the indigenous people currently survive by raising grazing animals and they burn the land so new grass grows to feed them. It is a problem. The small population up there seems to be doing ok for now, though.

Yes, Rick, the White-tufted Sunbeam lives in the Andes at 12,000 to 14,000 feet. I have already photographed it. There is a major highway that goes through its territory, so you don't have to hike and camp to find it.
