I'm Japanese and now working away at the phrasal verbs. What I realized is that particles and adverbs have a huge influence on each phrasal verbs' meanings. For example, "turn off". It's easy to make "Please turn off the air conditioner". But my book also take up "His lecture on the European history was boring. It turned me off learning about it". The main verbs are very basic, but when they come out with various particles or adverbs, their meanings go varied. Every time I come across new ways of each phrasal verbs, I take them down on the note✌️

It's so interesting as a native english speaker to see people having difficulty with phrasal verbs in English just like I do in German. Although in german they are usually combined into one word. For example: geben means give. Abgeben means submit. Aufgeben means give up. Ergeben means produce. Übergeben means to give over or transfer. Vergeben means forgive. Umgeben means surround. Ausgeben means to give out or when combined with the word “sich“ means to present yourself as something.

hi from uzbekistan , phrasal verbs sound terribly for students who learn english , I think phrasal verbs are the most difficult part of english , because they can be used in diferrent situations with different meaning , actually I used to avoid when I saw phrasal verbs but I have realized that we have to learn phrasal verbs if we want to speak as a native so recently I have taken up learning phrasal verbs not to avoid , thank you for informations , I'll follow you on instagram and hope we'll watch more videos like this ''

Hi Anna, awesome channel i binge watched all of the accent lessons straight away!!! I got a question, I had a bit of an argument with my work colleague, we both on the leading/managing position and I asked one of other colleague to do something and I added at the end of the sencente phrase ''for me'' and then my manager mate told me that it isn't polite to say 'for me'' like am pointing out that I am the boss and you're doing something for me. long story short, which form is more polite for example; Can you mop the floor please? or Can you mop the floor for me please? PS both me and my collegue aren't natives so those type of thing aren't very obvious for us. thanks a lot in avdvance!!!
@EnglishLikeANative
@EnglishLikeANative 4 жыл бұрын
Hmmm it’s an interesting question. If you are in a senior position and you ask someone to do something then I don’t think it matters if you say ‘for me’ or not. The fact that you say please makes the sentence polite. Your colleague makes a good point but I honestly don’t think a Native would deem it as less polite. :)
