3 Simple Ways To Sound Fluent speaking English.
Try CAMBLY with 15 Mins FREE chat: www.cambly.com/invite/englishl...
I listen to many students who has a good grasp on grammar and have a large English vocabulary, but many of them still struggle to sound like native speakers or to achieve a fluent flow when speaking. There are a number of things that you can do to tackle this, but here are three things that you can change instantly to start you on the right track. However remember that becoming fluent in any language is a marathon not a sprint, so I will encourage you to be patient with yourself. I hope these tips help you, stay tuned for the bonus tip at the end. Add any tips that you may have in the comments section below.

Thinking noises. I had never thought of this - ever, but Anna, you're absolutely right, as a native speaker I/we make those sounds. When we're thinking of what to say next. A Chinese friend of mine - different "thinking noises"; an Iranian acquaintance, different again (so she thinks). How amazing. Thanks as always.

As an Italian, I tend to open my mouth a lot when speaking, due to vowel-driven Italian. When speaking English, I found that opening just "half" my mouth helps me a lot with pronunciation and fluency. I know this sounds weird, but it really gives me results. Thanks, your channel is super.

I wonder if we could do an image chain or story for musical chord progressions. I IV V can be in a major key or in a minor key, i iv v. Notice if the chord is minor it's lower case Roman numeral. Blues and rock music use the I. IV. V progression often. Jazz (earlier spelling Jass) uses ii V I chord progressions in both major and minor contexts. The I vi ii V has been used for hundreds if not thousands of songs and is played in jazz for the turn around (letting you know the progression is now resolving back to the beginning). Finally, movement can be introduced using a circle/cycle of 5ths...you would move up a fourth and then down a fifth, and then repeat. Example: A moves to D. (A = 1. B = 2. etc) A to D is a fourth. Then down a fifth to G, up a fourth to C, down a fifth to F. (C1 B2 A3 G4 F5). OK...so here's how I would now try to internalize a song. "All of Me". "All of me, why not take all of me, can't you see, I'm no good without you". ( A very popular jazz standard). It starts with C...then it goes to E (should be Emi in the key of C...so that gets labelled now the "funny chord". Now it cycles up to A, to Dmi, and then to E again. Then Ami to D then Dmi to G. And G is the V of C which brings us back to the beginning for the second 16 bars, which in and of itself has a different "second half". Also know that in the key of C, the vi chord would be Ami and the ii chord would be Dmi. Again in jazz, key changes are abundant...and any minor chord can be turned into a major sounding chord. I know it must be gibberish to nonmusicians, but music theory is akin to grammar in a spoken language. Maybe an image chain is possible...maybe not...but you've got me thinking Anna, and I'm grateful. And the bat story...brilliant! You have found your niche superstar!

"Thinking noises" are sometimes called "fillers". I think it would be best to use fillers only when you need to; only when you need to pause for a very brief moment to think. "Er" and "um" aren't really for me.

I've always been told not to use so much thinking noises, especially when talking on the phone. It could sound stupid or incompetent. I think it's the amount of such noises that makes the difference. O:11 Would someone explain to me why English speaking people never use their thumb to count with their hand, while we Germans are used to do it.

Actually, I hate uhms. When someone uhms too often, I quickly lose interest in them. I prefer phrases like ,please, let me think for a moment'. I'm willing to give anyone a short amount of time to think unless the duration expires 45 seconds.
