Trying to confuse us like he's Dr. Neal? Didn't say which cholesterol Coconut oil and other saturated fats in raise. They raise good cholesterol! Can't trick me. Eggs have choline which breaks down the bad cholesterol in eggs. Watch Dr. Neal DC.

@@jermaine5675 it should be vco or virgin coconut oil it is a lot different from the ordinary coconut oil, vco is cold pressed and didn't passed any heating process, so 2 tablespoons a day keeps alzheimer's disease away.

Dr Barnard's recommendations, advice and explanations are excellent - there is a lot of dubious, ill conceived and wrong advice with regards to health / nutritional and dietary information etc being touted, promoted by others... My father had me when nearly 50 , spoke 3 languages , kept mentally and physically active and ate and drank everything in moderation of good quality. At 77 he left to work with my older Stepsister in an Orphanage in Burma ( Mayanmar) for 4yrs. He passed away peacefully at 93 yrs old. Nothing but respect for this Doctor and regards to the Host of the Exam Room.

@@Debra_Hasatheory one doesn’t need that much protein. Most Americans are getting twice what they need! The only reason one would not get enough protein on a plant-exclusive diet is if one ate a substantial number of calories from oils (which are pure fat and devoid of protein) or fruits (which have protein, but a smaller percentage of their calories is from protein). If one eats a balanced diet, with a variety of veggies, fruits, legumes, whole grains, nuts, and seeds, as one is supposed to, one will get the optimal amount of protein and a good balance of essential amino acids.

Me too. I eat cauliflower and kale and broccoli daily, in a huge salad. You damage the cruciferous when cooked because you damage the enzymes that create sulforaphane in broccoli and similar sulfur compounds in the other cruciferous veggies. Sulforaphane is great for brain health and inflammation.

Soy was such a part of my diet I managed menopause without symptoms. Although I did have endocrine issues arise possibly due to the estrogen and processing of many soy products. Have been listening to diet regimes for at least 40 years and the number of various diets was about 15 so not one worked long term because we would all be using it now. . I tried exercise and eating more veg but three weeks and I lost only 1kg. So I went back to how we must have lived as cavemen. Grubbing around for food growing in the ground, picking berries , nuts off the bush when in season and them things hanging in the trees. The odd steak when the men managed to kill a bison. We didn’t drink milk, just plain old fashioned water. Oil, well that definitely came later. But we were busy up and down all day too. And here we are hearing just what is being recommended by Dr Barnard. So I have followed his advice and 1kg in one week. Just brilliant. Thank you, I feel really really healthy. Best advice by far.

Please go on a keto diet. So long as you keep your carbs low fat is healthy. Your growth hormones naturally burns excessive fat. However this hormones can’t burn fat while you have spiking levels of insulin. To keep your blood insulin low reduce your carb intake. That’s why the whole idea of being a vegan is a recipe for disaster! For more info check out dr Eric Berg

I'm American living in Italy for 50 years. When I hear about the mediteranean diet it gives me pause. Yes, my friends in the hill town where I live eat lots of fruit and vege, usually coming from their own land, yes our fat comes from our own olive trees but......their main food (the 3 P's pasta, pane, pizza) all come from overly processed wheat AND poor quality wheat (easy to grow, easy to process). Any comments? I love your Exam Room Podcast!!!

Mediterranean diet also encompasses French, Spanish and Greek cuisine . Personally, l rarely eat pasta , bread and don't like pizza . I was also surprised by how frequently fries / chips that the French and Spanish serve in restaurants. If you choose the best of what all the Mediterranean countries offer then it is a very good diet.

@Life with Suzzy. Alternative to FORGETFULNESS. What you can do is carry a small piece of paper and a pen in your pocket every- day. When you need something to do, or to get, reach for the paper and pen from your pocket and write down what you need to buy, or bring right away.. It's just simple. Also, have a PEN and a small NOTEBOOK and make sure you put it on the table, or somewhere in the house where you can see it right away when you walk around the house or .....have a small table where you can put a notebook and 2 or 3 pens and write down anything that you will need to look for or need to buy later. Don't forget to write the date everytime you're Writing a reminder to yourself. It will save you time and frustrations.

Dr. put me on the Patricia Kane protocol a long with Essentiale N. It worked, including 3 tbls a day coconut oil, w/o high cholesterol counts. I couldn't even remember how to walk.

Hi Dr Barnard and Chuck,I'm curious why you swept all saturated fats into the 'bad' category , rather than highlite the metabolic contrast between the shorter chain saturated fats( say C8 downwards,Caprylic to C4,Butyric which are selected by heart and muscles as a primary source of energy?!¿
