Can the right foods hold the key to unlocking a world of sharper vision, enhanced cognition, and optimal brain health? Food is medicine. It’s more than simply a catchy phrase; it’s an empowering statement that can change your life. You can use modern knowledge to make daily decisions on what foods to eat that can not only prevent disease, but preserve your vision and cognition as you age.
I’m excited to welcome Dr. William Li as our guest on the show today. Dr. Li is an internationally renowned physician and scientist whose research has laid the foundation for over forty new medical treatments and impact care for over seventy diseases. He’s here to talk about his latest book, Eat to Beat Your Diet: Burn Fat, Heal Your Metabolism, and Live Longer: amzn.to/3TkT2rh
When it comes to visual and cognitive decline, research shows that they’re usually tied to the same common causes. That’s why it’s possible to use nutrition as an effective and powerful prevention tool. Listen in as Dr. Li shares how to eat to beat vision loss and cognitive decline with foods that you can begin integrating into your diet today.

The foods mentioned are what I like, and we buy them, but the NUTRITIONAL value is an eye opener. like many I have a negative reaction to pepperoni and omega 6 foods from some meats. Omega 3 is found in fish but you need to do your homework and check for wild caught! At 83 I am In good Shape and NOT on meds! My Dr. told me to drink more water, my lipids profile is great, blood pressure is good and not mentioned is your need for exercise to make the body healthy! At 83, I'm STILL learning and Dr. Li is VERY interesting! The word DOCTOR means? There are drs. of Medicine, MD, of philosophy PH, a Dr. In mechanical engineering. So what does Dr. Mean? The word "DOCTOR" means TEACHER, and Dr William Li is one of the best, and I get a FRONT ROW seat at ALL his lectures! 😊

There are always negative comments and skeptics but let me say this….. I followed Dr. Lis advice and eat 1-3 kiwi fruit a day, cut out sugar totally along with flour. This wasn’t the goal but I am now free of arthritis! ! ! Wholesome foods play a big part on your wellness.

Dr Li is thorough and a teacher to trust he does his research. Jim Kwik did what seemed to be impossible: He found out how to learn self-taught. He persisted and finally shared his successes in college to learning troubled students. Persistent study and research opened new brain paths around damaged areas in his brain. He is a genius! 😁. Get his work and learn...

I looked at the transcript, and the 3 foods are: 1) Tea (Green, black, oolong, puer, etc...) 2) Berries (all of them) ok if frozen 3), Brassica. (Vegetables.) (Bok choy, green leafy, califlower, broccoli., Etc...) So...TBB for short. The transcripts are helpful, I think.

He's right but just be careful about one thing, you can actually overdo the brassicas. I was strict vegan doing broccoli, cauliflower, kale, cabbage, brussle sprouts, etc. to the point where I got slowed down thyroid (first sign is cold hands) and actually felt fatigued despite strong exercise program and no junk food. I swapped out some of the brassica and made sure to include dark leafies like steamed parsley or arugula (Ultimate concentrated mineral source is seaweed) and got better. Make sure and include carrots and other non-green colors and you'll be in good shape (conversely you can treat anxiety/hyperactivity with deep greens, garlic a nervous system relaxant too it will lower blood pressure.

41:21 My parents, who were immigrants from China, cooked dishes with a lot of fresh vegetables with minimal amount of meat. We hardly used canned vegetables. As I got older, I realized their diet was so much healthier by eating whole foods. I enjoyed listening and learning how simple changes in food choices can improve my health in the long run.

I just had an eye exam where they photographed my inner eye and the doctor told me my eyes looked perfect! I was shocked because two years before another eye doctor told me I had stage 1 cataracts... but now there was no evidence of it. The only thing I have done in the past 2 years is eat organic food, probably 90%. I take trace minerals, vit D3/K2, and a thyroid/adrenal supplement, all food based supplements.

I have been fasting this week. No breakfast or lunch Monday to Thursday. Breakfast and evening meal Friday to Sunday and i have lost 4 lbs. Drink plenty of water with a splash of fruit juice and i havent felt hungry or had any cravings. It may not work for everyone but it works for me. I have both of Dr Li’s books and have been vegetarian for over 30 years and vegan for 4. But i havent been as active as i was 30 years ago so for 30 years i have gained weight. It has been a nightmare to get off. Diets dont work but following a lot of what Dr Li says has really helped. I was always thin until i reached 30. Then it just went down hill. My biggest issue was portion sizes. Always eat healthily but far too much at each sitting so fasting has helped me get back on track. Just try some of what Dr Li says he does make sense by making sure you understand the benefits of food and what they do for you. The right foods and the right quantities.

Thanks for this. I've eaten healthily for years also, but the last several months have had to rely on yogurt, berries, and Trader Joe's pre-made salads-due to being away from home 11 hours, 5 days per week driving a school bus. I GAINED WEIGHT! How is that? Has to be the lack of exercise. Now I know what to focus on.

Super foods: broccoli, blueberries, amla powder (india gooseberries), hemp hearts , tumeric, matcha tea, Beans (black , garbonzo, kidney), kiwi. Love cole slaw nd broccoli slaw mix with shreadded carrots. And zuchinni and yellow squash with onions. Favorite meal on the go, banana and almonds. Sugar substitute Lakunta classic Monkefruit and allulose. Fast meal sweet potato wash, stab with fork, cook 5 minutes each side in microwave add salt, pepper and butter. Ezekiel bread or sourdough. Best snack white button mushrooms wash, remove stems, fill with cream cheese and bake in oven until really hot and darken a little. Best fermented foods that i will actually eat greek yogurt, dill pickles, Lindsay black olives, sourdough bread. Fish: salmon, starkist albacore tuna, Snows minced clams wild caught. Best omega 3's: walnuts in chicken (canned chicken breast) and tuna salad, hemp hearts, flax seed fresh ground, chia seeds soaked. Tuna patties, salmon patties and homemade bread with almond flour. Love egg salad. Love creamy potato leek soup with minced clams. Worst cheat: love mexican three kind shreadded cheese and Lipton iced tea. Nobody's perfect. Also 1 pound of hamburger each month, oil well drained for tacos or burgers. Not a diet. A lifestyle change. Healthy seeds and nuts (in moderation), spices and herbs. My processed food cheats Angelos Eggplant Parmesan and Barber Cordon Blue chicken. Extra Virgin Olive Oil and alvacado oil or alvacado.

Awesome information and explanations! I knew most of this but I needed to hear Dr. Li say out loud how bad (soda, chips, processed foods) and how good (tea, berries, all types of greens) these foods are for vision and brain health. I appreciate this video 🙏❤️🙏

As a person with age related macular degeneration a local Opthamologist put me on AREDS 2 because occasionally I saw a shadow on ceiling that would go away before I could get out of bed. It’s been about 3 months now and never have that symptom. I have worn glasses since grade school and still do. That should help you understand why he still wears glasses. Glasses are no help for macular degeneration. The Macula of the eye needs that med, over the counter from Wal*Mart and is made by Bausch and Lomb. Glasses are to focus light on retina. So it is macular for Areds2 and glasses for retina.

There are more worse eye problems than needing glasses (i.e. macular degeneration). Wish wearing glasses to correct my vision would be the least of my problems 😮

Thanks for this great interview that focused on what seems to be a lesser emphasis--our vision. I recently learned that those 8-12 glasses of water a day we should drink every day are also vital to vision.

8-12 glasses of water. I always have trouble with that. I don't like drinking water, you are right, it's necessary. But 8 glasses! 😢
