Thank you. I kept looking for videos NOT suggesting a quantum mystery when using 3 linear polarisers in a particular configuration. I couldn't see the mystery myself and this has helped me confirm it isn't one.

i'm so confused, on physics girls video about it she was saying it was wave function collapse and random.. but i didnt understand because it seemed to make sense and not be spooky, so then i looked up stuff about it and it seems like more of a physical, like classical physical thing? what was she referring to?

Hi. Great experiment showing the polarisation of light and the transverse nature of the electromagnetic waves of the visible spectrum.

Since EM waves are in two planes (the electric field and the magnetic field are oscillating in perpendicular planes) shouldn't they just stop at a polarising film since one of the planes can't get through. I ask this because you only take into account the electric field oscillating at 4:10

Hi Sir I was wondering why the intensity of unpolarised light halves after passing through the polariser.
@PhysicsHigh
@PhysicsHigh 4 жыл бұрын
EMR is traveling in all planes. Think of the fact that each one has and y component. The first polariser only allows one plane through. So only x components say pass through so that is half.

why is the slope of cos^2(theta)/I equal to the initial intensity?
@PhysicsHigh
@PhysicsHigh 4 жыл бұрын
Since I=I0 x cos sq theta then I/(cos sq theta) = I0. That happens to be the slope.
