I have had Pianoteq 7 for a few weeks, Standard Edition, with the Steinway, K2, and Steingraeber (also historical pianos & harps). My keyboard is several time zones away, so I have been using human- recorded MIDI from the International Piano Competition, mostly Bach pieces. Most of the music I work with has counterpoint so clarity and balance among parts is paramount. That said, Steingraeber has become my favorite and go-to model for multi-voice counterpoint. It also has a pedal-activated sound where felt is inserted, which is an amazing sound for quiet/intimate pieces where the usual resonance & sustain would be too much. Last: for anyone who finds fault with any of the presets, the Morph feature of Standard and Pro is a fast and amazingly effective way to create a physical model TO YOUR SPECIFIC TASTE. I am glad I got three pianos with very different sounds and characteristics. It allows for a broad range of Morphed versions. Myself, I have spent most of my time inventing Baroque period instruments that are (eg) morph of clavichord, Celtic harp, a pianoforte, and a Steingraeber. The result is very different from layering or blending those same patches/models.

I have fallen in love with the Steingraeber in 8.2 I've just bought my first IEM's (Senheisser Pro 100's). I'm hearing Pianoteq in it's 8.2 glory for the first time. Thank you for all your videos. Warmest regards and every blessing, Chris and Sally

I just got the Beyerdynamic dt 770 pro x with the DAC USB-C cable. And yes it does make a huge difference. After a few days I am still speechless. Pianoteq does recognize the DAC as a new device. So its plug and play! So for the complete experience you need a weighted keyboard to start with, but also a nice laptop, software and good monitors and/or good studio headphones. But hey, the real Steingraeber is still a little more expensive 😅

As always your playing is so marvelous and I know why ;-) This new Steingraeber piano is so amazing, I tend to prefer pianos with a good and powerful bass range but with also a good presence in the mid and high... Like yourself I love the Blüthner very much but this new piano addition in Pianoteq is really great... Thanks for this video and many Blessings, Max T.

So beautiful but I wonder if it's worth 49 euros cosindering I already have the Steinway sound. So many instruments to choose from but limited money

It's got more bass then the Steinway D and B but this changes as you go up the register. I'd like to see the differences in the bridge and soundboards. However if you play with the voicing you can get the B and Steingraeber to sound almost the same.

Lovely playing that reveals what the new Steingraeber can do. Would you mind sharing information about how you recorded this? Your sound "card" and sound settings in Pianotew, etc? I ask because the sound that you are getting is stronger than the sound on the Pianoteq demo page, to my ears.

Thanks so much! My soundcard is a Behringer UMC1829 so nothing special there. I use a Waves plugin called L3-LL Ultramaximizer to add a little fullness to the final master. But honestly, I think if you played the midi through Pianoteq, it would sound almost identical. I'll check if I kept the midi file and if I did, I'll post a link to it...

Good performance! I wonder how the Steingraeber model would sound if it wasn't processed by compression you mentioned in your reply.
@PhilBestMusic
@PhilBestMusic 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Well the dynamic range would be slightly wider. The compression I use is very subtle. It just narrows the range slightly without losing its impact.

Phil, I very much enjoy your KZfaq videos on the various Pianoteq piano models and also enjoy your playing style. You have a soulful expressiveness. I am wondering how you are enjoying your Roland HP605. I played both the HP605 and the Mini Grand GP607. The GP607 had a richer sound due to the speaker and amp system. I feel the HP605 might sound richer with the addition of a powered sub woofer. Did you add a sub woofer to your HP605? And, if so, did it do the trick? Thanks, In advance, from another Pianoteq fan, Ted Harrington.
@PhilBestMusic
@PhilBestMusic 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Ted, Thanks for the nice comments. I love the PHA50 action in the HP605 but I'm not a fan of its sound system. So I use a pair of M-Audio BX8s which seem good to me in my little room with no sub. Effectively, I use the piano as a controller for Pianoteq and I like the way it looks on my videos!

By the way, here on the Steingraeber it's very obvious that the low end is far too synthetic. The rest is beautiful, but I'm sure that I could tell it from a blind test because of the very weak low end.

Can you recognize the piano sound of the Roland? I Use to have Roland RD -800 (Now i have the Kawai mp7SE) There were three main piano sounds there. The first piano sound was "grand piano" sample of the main v-piano sound. The second was rd 700 grand piano" and the third was "brilliant grand" And their six variations each My personal favorite was the brilliant grand. i always wonder from what acoustic piano they sample the piano sounds.
@PhilBestMusic
@PhilBestMusic 4 жыл бұрын
I don't use the Roland sounds these days - only Pianoteq so I'm not sure, but I always thought my V-Piano sound was Steinway-like...

I have a CS11, I'm new to all of this. When I get everything hooked up properly and I'm utilizing Pianoteq 6, will the sound come through my piano, speakers, or headphones? I'm hoping it comes out of my piano sounding like this!! You play beautifully!
@PhilBestMusic
@PhilBestMusic 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you! As long as the CS11 has an audio input (I'm pretty sure it does) you can feed the sound through the piano itself.

Thank you so much. I generally like the presets Pianoteq create and don't fiddle much with parameters. If I ever do put the work in to make my own presets that actually sound good, I'd sell them off my website. So I'm sorry but I'm not into swapping fxp files. I think there's a lot of that sort of thing on the Pianoteq forum but it's not really my thing.

Sounds harsh and twangy to me. The top notes 'ting'. There is not that mechanical clunk that moderates the short string notes. I don't like it at all
@PhilBestMusic

The top does have a very bright quality but I rather like it. The clunk can be turned up... But each to their own, eh?
@napilopez
@napilopez 6 жыл бұрын
There's a 'warm' preset that cuts down on the brightness a lot, FYI. And of course, it's Pianoteq so you can always change it if you have the standard or pro version.
@JoeLinux2000
@JoeLinux2000 4 жыл бұрын
I don't know what to say to your comment. Yes the top end is bright, but it's not unrealistic. It could be your own speakers that you are hearing it on. As an aside, I recommend getting the Pro Version from the outset when they put it on special. Going through the upgrades will cost more even when on sale.

you can edit the crap out of pianoteq. i've owned every sampled piano for that last 3 decades. This company is light years ahead of samples. To play this is a trip also.
Beautiful sonority with no changes to the settings in Pianoteq.
