Due to the subterfuges of the Romulans, aided by the corrupt ambassador Kell, the governor of the Klingon colony on Krios, Vagh, accuses the Federation of supplying weapons to the insurgent Kriosian rebellion.
Vaugh calls Captain Picard a liar and that's what happens!
Enjoy this corny clip, from TNG season's four episode "The Mind's Eye".

Picard is a master of diplomacy. First rule of diplomacy is to know your audience. Klingon diplomacy involves swearing/insults and responding directly to a challenge. Picard is a master of diplomacy.

Some people think changing strategy is wrong on a conventional level But honestly, read the room. You cant convince a warrior to peace, but you can get them to see logic that fighting each other is worthless if not counter productive And a ambassador of peace might not like to hear of war But defense and protection are words that spur on there call to action

As a Norwegian, I like this. Someone who could potentially be your enemy can be turned to your side by swearing at him in a way that he approves of. If he nods his head and agrees that the swearing was correct, you will get along fine.

I don't like that way of thinking. It reminds me of how the CCP appreciates only suckup-style nationalist patriotism while cracking down on the passionate, sincere kind since it does not signal subservience but is a terrifying display of a relatively free spirit. *An insult that is appreciated is the recipient's lapdog.* Although I can recognize that in the video it was to indicate having a spine, presumably. (The Klingon's response was actually a bit cringy.)

@@Dowlphin Klingon culture is constantly about probing for weakness. If you fail to answer a challenge, perhaps nothing happens that day. Fail to answer enough challenges, and it will be assumed that you are weak, and require retirement. Remember, Worf attempted to prepare Riker for the exchange program by telling him that it would be Riker's job as first officer to kill the captain if he became weak. In an incident like this, Picard failing to answer the challenge wouldn't have fallen back on Picard. Not immediately, at least. But, other challenges and tests would have been proffered. Fail enough of them, and the Klingons would view the Federation as ripe for the taking.

Among Indigenous People here on Turtle Island, each side would insult each other (none of our languages have profanities) before battle with respect given for creativity and eloquence. This could go on for half an hour or more before the actual fighting began.

If what Picard said had been revealed, even via closed captioning, it would have ended the show immediately due to flagrant FCC violations. Let's just say it was pretty brutal. Something along the lines of "If I want any of your shit, I'll have your dad scrape some off his dick and give it to me."

@UstedTubo187
@UstedTubo187 2 жыл бұрын
@@FalconNest I have love for all the captains, but Sisko is at the bottom of the list for me behind Picard, Janeway, and Kirk. The way he treated Picard in the first episode of DS9 left a sour taste in my mouth for a really long time. I know he was hurting because his wife died in the Battle of Wolf 359, but it wasn't like it was Picard himself that did it, it was Locutus of Borg (an important distinction in my opinion). Also, Sisko wasn't even a captain for quite a while, which I always thought was an odd decision for them to make in that show. I think in the end what it really boils down to for me is who I'd most want to be like if I were a captain in Starfleet, or perhaps just who I'd like to emulate in real life. I respect and admire all the captains for different reasons, but overall, Picard is the one I respect and admire the most.

@@UstedTubo187 Many thanks for sharing your thoughts with us! I do not find Janeway inspirational because of the erratic behaviour the writers bestowed on her character ("she is a woman, she is emotional", which truly feels dated now). Every time she changes her mind because she acts emotionally, I cannot but compare and contrast that with what Picard would have done in an analogous situation (I think I wrote about this in another video description). Picard is the perfect captain (too bad they did not give him much to do in TNG S07 apart from "Gambit" and "All Good Things"). Sisko was written to clearly give the impression that he "is not Picard", as he says when he punches Q, but I like him all the same for his humanity and compassion. One notable limit is that we have to wait until S04 for Avery Brooks to give powerful performances (before then, especially the mirror universe episode in S02, "Crossover", and the two-parter "Past Tense" in S03 display well his acting skills, I think...I shall probably upload something from "Past Tense" soon). Anyway, these are only a few thoughts of mine, and I just feel grateful that we can talk about ST in a civilised manner.

@@andrasbalogh4291 Ahh I see english not your first language. It is "loses" where the "s" sounds like a "z" and "o" sound a lot like an "oo" or "ew" sound in english pronunciation. The word "looses" isn't really a word. The word "loose" is a word meaning something not tight. "loses" means something that is lost. "It loses something in the translation." Therefore, something was lost in the translation. Versus "looses" in example being "his belt is loose" or "her shoes are tied loose." or even the analogy with negative connotations of "a loose woman" but don't use that one.

@@vysearcadia522 Loose also has a meaning as a verb, essentially a synonym for fire or shoot, ie. loose an arrow. In that context the following is entirely possible: "He looses the arrow." Pretty fringe case, but looses is a word.
