Yep I’m same age as you and when I wanted to get into guns when I was younger I had car repair, family business costs, other living costs that made throwing even 200$ on my first gun a big ask. Now that I’m in a better place financially it seems everyone thinks everything is worth the sun and the moon

You're not wrong. Definitely feel this. Ironically I did not get financially comfortable until late 2019/2020. I wanted to get into guns anyway but I got thrown into it thinking the world was gonna end. Terrible time to get into it too but I'm still happy I did. Pro tip, get a small credit card $1000 max or something you can pay off in 6 months or 1 year max. That is how I make my firearm or large ammo purchases. Pay off the card and buy something else etc. Helps finance and also limit your spending. A small credit card is low risk just need to make sure you allocate enough to make payments.

I remember when Turkish Mausers were $39 in Shotgun News if you had an FFL. My buddies dad had an FFL and we each bought 3 of them, just for kicks we tested one to destruction. We went out in the forest and tied one to a tree and put a string on the trigger long enough for us to hide behind a big boulder and fire it, we took the kind of reloading dies with us that you can use a hammer on or put in a vise along with every kind of powder we had and sized and primed cases along with 8mm bullets. We tried faster and faster burning powders until we wound up taking the fastest burning powder made at the time which was Hogdon PB and filled a case all the way to the top with it which was compressed with the bullet when it was seated, that still didn't do it, so then we did the same thing and packed the barrel full of dirt tamping it down as hard as we could with a cleaning rod with a patch jag on it, that still didn't do it so we did the same thing plus took an 8mm bullet and drove it backwards into the barrel at the muzzle end with a hammer, that did it. But it didn't blow up the way you'd think it would or the way you see in movies, what happened was the barrel broke right at the back edge of the machine work where the front sight presses on, and it broke off so clean it looked like it was machined off right there. After we went back to his place we got his headspacing No-Go Guage and chambered it, the bolt had set back in the receiver so far you could hear the guage rattle around in the chamber when we shook the rifle back and forth. Needless to say that rifle is just a wall hanger these days, we even welded the bolt in it just for safety reasons so one day down the road after we're gone someone doesn't try to shoot it.

When I started buying them, they were 200. I stopped when they hit 300, and even then I was buying three or so at a time with ammo and other stuff all bundled so my dealer always gave me a discount

I complained about them not being worth 150. Still think that to this day (I have a bias against them for whatever reason) I do miss the days of cheaper milsurps

Lol I actually found a mosin with all the serial numbers matching with a bayonet the clip pouches and the cleaning kit for $250 at my local gun store. I could easily sell it for $600+ but I’m not because it’s a fun rifle, I can’t find a garand for a good price though

Don't, it's dangerous and I can't believe someone is recommending in a video to do this. Every receiver and barrel assembly is headspaced with the bolt, putting a bolt in a receiver and barrel assembly that isn't specifically headspaced to it is a good way to blow yourself up and wind up at the hospital with a doctor picking pieces of it out of your face, that's if part of something doesn't drive itself through your eye killing you instantly. These rifles make in the neighborhood of 50,000 psi in the chamber, that's 25 tons of pressure per square inch, does that sound like something you want to piece together yourself from parts?

Look for mil surplus gun u want. Search for videos on taking apart the gun and labeling the parts. Find parts for said gun. Assemble said gun by following videos previously mentioned.

No such thing as a registered firearm

Depending where you live you live here in the states you’re supposed to register but I have a lot of friends that have a lot of firearms that are not registered you just keep it on the down low.

That's because AKs and ARs are so generic, its just like the modern car market, everything is pretty much the same with few differences.

Putting a bolt in a receiver and barrel assembly that isn't properly headspaced to it is extremely dangerous and a good way to wind up at the hospital with a doctor picking pieces of your new rifle out of your face, that's if part of it isn't driven through your eye killing you instantly, these guns make around 50,000 psi of chamber pressure, that's 25 tons of pressure per square inch. Does that sound like something you want to shoot made from parts from various rifles all thrown together? Doing something like this is extremely dangerous and this guy shouldn't be telling people it's some kind of viable route to owning a collectable Mauser or any other bolt action rifle. This video is proof that just any unqualified person can make a video about something acting like they're a pro on the subject, if you EVER assemble a rifle like this from parts NEVER shoot it until it's been checked out by a qualified gunsmith with the proper guages to check out the bolt headspacing, that is definitely something this character should have mentioned in this video including having a written warning in bold flashing letters to make sure everyone gets how dangerous it is to shoot a gun assembled from parts, I just can't believe someone knowledgeable in firearms would make a video suggesting people should assemble a high power rifle from parts and not warn them against shooting it before having it checked out by a professional gunsmith, this is just as irresponsible as it comes.
