Lure fishing for Pike on the Lancaster canal nearly turns deadly when an animal savagely attacks my fishing gear. Headed out for a short few hours and managed quite a few fish on the local stretch with Harry from Bang Average fishing 🎣.

Thanks Rick! Definitely had a bit of bottle didn’t it, lucky it didn’t end up on the wrong end of a big pike! If one took the lure while it was a bit tangled it could’ve been a whole different story 😂

There's a stray cat that used to hassle anglers on one of my local spots, and try to either scrounge our lunch or steal the fish. Between that and the occaisional cheeky raven raiding the bait boxes, it certainly kept us on our toes.

Haha yeah i can see how that could happen. This cat didn't leave us alone for a good while, didn't get a lot of it on camera but it kept going for the net too. Had to keep the lure miles away from it

Probably the old lady's cat from down the lane she has to keep the rodents out of her garden lol. He was quite curious, and it was almost as if the rod and reel were coated with catnip lol. Those canals are epic places to fish!

Thanks mate i'd highly reccomend it. A lot of salmo lures i've seen have a lot more action, but i feel sometimes less is more. The more subtle belly wobble and sway seems to be outperforming the salmo's that go a bit crazy coming back through the water

Cracking footage as always, I’m looking to get into canal pike fishing, I’ve never done it before. What lb line do you recommend? Also what do I need to attach from the lure to the line I’ve never set up a rod for pike so abit clueless.

Thanks mate I appreciate that! Id reccomend you get braided line somewhere between 30 and 60 pound, and then a wire trace connecting the line to the lure. This is so important because pike's teeth can easily cut through braid!

Cat- bring me fish! That was proper mad. Pike, yeah they are aggressive wee buggers aren't they, good for those who like a lively catch - mind your fingers though! Have you ever got a zander?

It must have been able to smell fish on the rod! And aye they're very aggressive fish, makes them so fun to fish for! Got a few scars on my fingers and thumb from pike over the years though. And no never even tried to catch a zander, i'd absolutely love one but there aren't any in the north west really!

Winter is the heardest time for it mate, if you're pike fishing try some deadbaits float fishing in the deepest parts of where you fish 👍

The hook up rate for that Rapala lure is not very good & it always seem's to be on the bigger fish too! I can't understand why though as you would think that two treble hooks would be enough! All the best.

I see what you mean. I think the main reason is that I used my 1950's rod with too soft of an action to set the hook. Cant see why I lose a few on the normal rod though its a mystery. VMC hooks are razor sharp and strong, maybe i've just been unlucky!

@@HFXRALLYMEDIA not sure on the technical bits mate but the world traveller comes with a bigger case that can fit a reel, and the smugglers are a variety of different sizes and cast weights. Hope this helps!

ive just bought a husky jerk tiger same as this and after 2 hours on canal between bridge 111 and 114 had nowt....HELP what am i doing wrong ????? lots of weed in canal doesnt help....Is there a GOOD STRETCH I could try next as £ times out NO FISH and Im about to give up....Maybe your northern lights lure will give me better luck
