Are pike easier to catch from shallow water or deep water? Join us as we embark on an exciting experiment to settle this question once and for all.
We try to determine whether pike are indeed easier to catch from shallow water or deep water. Will conventional shallow weedy spots prevail, or will deeper spots be the key to success.

Pike is ambush predator which means they "hide" Beside rocks, lake reeds, piles of seaweed bushes. Funny enough if you dive and look for pike you can find them hiding their heads on the bottom in bushes with their back end sticking out. anyway this means they are never in the deep area of the lake because the bottom is pretty much soft mud (not solid). When pikes are out hunting you can see them from far swimming towards lake reeds checking other fishes out and at this moment you can find them in deep water but only because they are transporting.

There sure are plenty of pike hanging out in the pelagic also, especially bigger ones. You should try it :)

@@LinusFro When they are out hunting yes but they are still close to hunting grounds where baitfish are hiding but when they are still they are hiding close to objects with solid ground. The deepest parts of any lake/ocean does not contain any growth and the soil is soft mud which you sink straight through it also contain lower levels of oxygen you typically wont find any fish in these areas. At winter they do tend to go deeper but still not to the deepest areas. I have the luxury of having groundwater lakes in my area which makes diving and spearfishing a pleasure compared to most lakes. its amazing to swim around and see the fish in its natural habitat and how they behave

It's a catch glove that Abu Garcia had in a promotion a while back. So unfortunately it's not in their usual assortment. But Savage Gear has one glove called Aqua Guard that is also very good to land fish.
