It's 1570. The Peace of Saint-Germain brings neither peace nor reconciliation.Religious tensions persist, and reach their height with the Capture of Brielle by the Sea Beggars.
Coligny advocates for a direct intervention in the Dutch Revolt. Meanwhile Catherine of Medici concentrates on the marriage of Henry of Navarre to Margaret of Valois.
After the marriage Coligny is shot by an assailant probably sent by the Guise. Catherine and Charles decide to finish the job and murder Coligny before he can retaliate.
This turns into the Saint Bartholomew's Day Massacre. The unsuccessful siege of La Rochelle follows. Charles IX dies and is succeeded by Henry III, but in the end he is forced to yield to the united forces of the Huguenots and the Malcontents.
