Is it just me or does everyone think watching these machines is almost as much fun at running wood through your own splitters?
@WOODDIGDIY

Lol that's what I was thinking. I'm always looking at videos to see what wood splitter is the best on the market for the $. I have a 22 ton rugged made with a log lift and 4 way wedge. It does a great job for a 2k$ machine. But up here in northern California we have a lot of giant trees. This machine seems to blast through the large rounds with ease from what I'm seeing.

@jessel8833
@jessel8833 3 жыл бұрын
Loosely stacked in IBC tote is less volume, so you loose potential stacking space, but saves stack time. All depends on how many IBC totes you got & where you want to devote your money & time (into neatly stacking = less totes needed, OR, loosely dropping in & purchasing more IBC totes. (And, hopefully you pass that knowledge along to customer) -- Neatly stacked just also looks a lot nicer asthetically

The only thing that might make that splitter a bit better function wise, is some sort of rotating section under where the ram is, so you can 'rotate'' the wood after each split, rather than muscle and slide it around.

I have a Question about the axis dose the conveyor lay flat and raise as needed
@jasone9
@jasone9 3 жыл бұрын
I think if you started with your conveyor set lower to the ground, say 1 ft above being level and ran it on speed 4 and then raised it 18" as needed you would build a bigger pile. Would it be enough difference to justify the extra adjustments? I don't know, but might be worth a try. Also if you wanted to build bigger piles as your business grows you could get a stand alone conveyor and use the little conveyor to feed the bigger one. An old hay conveyor would get it done cheaper.

Once you get in the 50 cord/yr range, it's time to quit handling wood by hand as much as possible. I'd pour a 6"x 30x40' concrete slab, and pour concrete side walls up 8" thick x 6' on the 40' side and one end.....leaving one end to drive in. 40 cubic yds concrete (form lumber comes off that new sawmill) 40 cy will run you $6k, allow another 1500 for pour labor if you get it all formed and ready. Frame up side walls another 6 feet with lumber and build a conventional gable roof on top with lumber off that new sawmill you have coming....cost near nothing for the lumber, you'd only have to buy metal for the roof...great first project of the mill :) $2000 for the metal for the roof. Call it $10k all in, amortized over 20 years, 500 bucks/yr. (and you'll have a dandy building if you decide to get out of the firewood business down the road) Dig one side of the building into a slope, and use that side for your splitter, so the end of the conveyor is ends up 12-14' off the floor of the building. Build a shed over the top of the splitter that intersect the roof in a T so you have a permanent cover for the splitter and covered place to work from. Split your wood, let it fall on the concrete floor until you have a huge pile. Use the tractor to simply shove the wood to the back of the building to allow it to dry. Building that size will hold 50-75 cords piled 6-7' high, more if you heap it up as high as the tractor bucket will dump in the building center. Comes time to sell, buy an oversized 'light materials' bucket for the tractor.....they will hold 2-3 times the volume of a standard bucket. Figure out how many buckets it takes per cord, and use the tractor to run along the concrete floor to scoop up that many buckets and dump in the trailer or whatever. Never stack or handle firewood again after it comes off the splitter. There are better things to do in life besides stack firewood IF you plan to be in it for the money.

I e-mailed Easton twice with a question, w/o a response . Thought I would ask here. A neighbor with 1500 sq. Ft. Of space in his pole she'd wants to know if they would make him an Axis that he could plug in to the wall ,for inside use. ( Electric instead of gas powered ) They finally got back to me last week ,they do.

I'm curious, why do you cut your wood so small? Is it to dry quicker, buyers demand, etc? Growing up burning firewood, lengths were cut between 16-18 inches, and the goal was to have at least 5" wide end pieces, and no more than 9" wide. The stuff you are cutting looks like it is about 3" wide. I don't miss the days of log burning stoves (smoke, ash, and dust), but the warmth and simplicity were great.
@HometownAcres

Both. It dries quicker and I sell to people burning recreationally. Not for heat. Smaller split burn brighter and hotter (also faster, which means they’ll be ordering from me again sooner)
