Yep, the axis is a great splitter. A couple observations, if you don’t mind. If you lower the conveyor a little, the belt will pick up the sticks a bit better. It will also allow you to shove a whole split round into it at once, and it will take care of the sticks - no fussing around with individual sticks. Finally the edges of rounds that don’t get split can be saved to the right, and when you have two or more saved up, you can split them all at once - a wee bit more efficient.

Nice Job Sandy! Need to get a shelter over the splitter so you can split in the rain like you did in the chop shop. A little moving rack or a table top to keep the wood on the same height as the splitter table so you can slide your work and not do any unnecessary lifting or cut into your tractor bucket and then drive around behind your splitter so you’re pulling out the wood from your bucket and sliding it across your feed table… Obviously you’re going to develop a nice little system so you can do the maximum amount of work for the lowest physically taxing process… love you rolling your chunks down the table!!!

I know you built the chop shop, but now that you have the layout for the new splitter, I think you might want to think of a small roof just over the splitter and work area. Keep yourself and equipment out of the snow or rain and even the sun while working. The chop shop can go back to be a storage area for equipment, might have to rename the two.

GREAT SETUP! You're really building a great stable of equipment! Hey, would if?? would if if you placed the first tote closer to you where it drops the rounds as close to the far side as possible. Once filled, drop the conveyor to a shallowest angle to fill the next one. Maybe even ad an additional 2 foot long , hanging, trough that when the conveyor is lowered it will extend over the first tote?

A couple things I’ve noticed you can lower an slow the conveyer will help reduce wear. If you separated cages, made a lift on lift off deflector. I think you can load into 2 cages before having to move them. fill one turn deflector fill the other. Deflector bracket would be upside down J hook, rest on the side uses top rail to hold in place may help with distributing wood more even. Good luck, good vid

I just came in from stacking a bush cord of Ash on pallets and would have loved to have that conveyor/IBC tote setup! That log deck is a thing of beauty, as well. Nicely done!

I picked up 3 x roller conveyors cheap off market place used in a warehouse. They aren't propelled, you have to push items along them, but they will be good for incorporating between the log deck like Sandy's to move the rounds to the splitter 👍

Wow, that sure makes it easier. As mentioned on first run I’m glad you explained the wood deck. On a side note look into this amazing spray to preserve your equipment. It’s sheep oil in a spray, so environmentally friendly. It’s called Lanox / Inox / Lanotec depending on country. It’s Lanox here in Australia. You can put in on anything from your boat / car / machinery. I do it twice a year. Stops rusting starting. Great Vlog

Sandy... this new splitter is so much work! You have to push the split logs all the way over to the conveyor, and you didn't have to do that before. Hahahaha... WOW! Although, it IS more work than the old one. How, you ask? You're splitting more wood, and that means... more work. The one thing I wondered about... the angle of the conveyor. If the ramp angle was lower, and 'centered' over the corners of four totes, would it do a better job of rolling off the conveyor into an empty tote? Second, are you going to position it inside the Chop Shop so it's out of the weather? With the conveyor, you could put the totes on the other side from before and position the log deck under the covered roof. I especially like the control you have over what you're splitting. TWO hands on the log... I LIKE IT!!! I'll send an email with my design for rollers on the log deck. You need your solar power supply down there with a Sludge machine. You really need to hydrate with sludge when you're working!! Happy New Year, buddy........

Yep, I agree with you about having a conveyor. It's one of those things that you get along with for a while but the first time you use one it's every bit "how did I not do this all that time ago?!"

Nice splitter! But I really like the convenience of the log deck. It's got to be a back saver.

Hello Sandy. I did notice that you did not bend over. I know that you weld, so a directional and adjustable chute that looked a bit like the log lift might work to change from center load to either side load into the totes. At any rate, you will get a lot more done in the same amount of time as before. Your back will feel better making it easier to sleep at night. Great buy! Have good days!

From many years of using a converted hay elevator, use four cages and centre your elevator of you can fit them.

Looks great you are making a lot of us jealous. I'm sure you will come up with an easier way to move the pieces from the cut table to the splitter. Its to bad they don't make the conveyer swing side to side to adjust to the totes

Dad had built a homemade splitter years ago that was horizontal but it had a lifting table and a conveyor. The lifting part was a little different than yours as it could take more wood but the conveyor was similar to that one. He sold it and built another one following the first design. I moved to NB in 2004 and came across a little vertical splitter which I bought did some modifying to it so I could add the table and conveyor which I have to do one of these days. I feel that the splitter is far superior to the horizontal splitter's. When I get it finished I will send you a video. I had planed to build them and sell them as I was so impressed with the design!

Another great video! I am a retired dairy farmer with a bad back that enjoys doing firewood and burning it in the house and shop. These verticals look like the ticket. I am looking at the Wolfe Ridge also. Live in Minnesota right next to Wisconsin where they are made. How I split now is to have a big bucket on the tractor and throw right into the bucket and then dump in the pile. So for me I think I would go without the conveyor and just slide into the bucket. Your video gets me cranked up again!!The Axis or the Wolfe Ridge would be a nice upgrade from my Wallenstein 540!! Hope you have a great New Year!

Hey Sandy, that looks like too much fun, when you can enjoy work like that it is no longer work, the quality and workmanship in this splitter makes it what it is, an awesome piece of equipment worth owning.

You could position two firewood crates centering the edges in the middle of the conveyor and get two full crates without moving anything.

That's probably some of the best looking firewood you've had in a while, shame you have to burn it. (just kidding) hope you have a safe New Year's

I built a similar setup to cut my logs into firewood but instead of the 16 inch spacing to cut in-between on I placed 2 beams for my logs to roll into like a saddle and marked every 16 inches for the cut ...yes my chainsaw does cut into the 2 beaks slightly but it's still much easier to roll the firewood to the splitter ...the 2 beams I peg in place with wood dowels so there is no metal to hit ...I also cut the 2 beams into firewood at the end of each season and replace them with 2 new beams for the next year

Dude that thing is the perfect height, take away the elevator, lift & your table & that is still a perfect machine. Good for you & happy new years!

I noticed it in my hands the most.because you're not muscling rounds around it takes way less toll on your body. Glad you're enjoying it!!

Those EastonMade splitters are incredible machines and I wish I had an opportunity to run one. I wonder how it would fare with the wood that I split.

I like the way that you have your splitter and a log deck set up at the 90 degree angle and seems to me even if you have to pick up a stick at the further end, it's not as bad with not bending over but overall really nice set up Sandy

Hi Sandy, I know I mentioned you making a trough under the log deck, but just watching you now, I think you could simple reduce the chainsaw cutting opening to a 3" gap and then that would allow the log sections to more easily slide across the top. Just add a couple 2" thick boards to either side of each gap and your good to go,

Looks like another winner as far as a conveyor possibly mount a cable winch in the middle the cable goes over then under back to the front should pull them to you as you winch

When you want the wood rounds to go into the second IBC could you lower the conveyor a bit that would extend the length toward the back cage ?

Hey Sandy, maybe if you lower the conveyor down lower you could fill the back basket first then raise it up to fill the front basket.. The over fill on the bak basket would work as a back stop. O r maybe putting a backstop on the center basket and then the splits would roll to the sides. just some funky thoughts.

Sweet machine, my advice to Eastonmade is to put a shroud around the bottom of that conveyor as it is just a matter of time till someone drops a piece of log and then gets a arm or head into the bottom of that conveyor.

Great addition to the wood yard Sandy, and it matches the Kioti..lol I have a small firewood business doing bundles, I have a TS 40 splitter, it works but that one you have is nice! Not sure if it’s worth the price point. I’ll keep watching you and make a decision.

Something you could try. Put four IBC Totes in a square and center them where the split wood falls. You might be able to fill four without moving them. Would love to see it tested. Thanks for the show.

I just got home from an out of town job,and am catching up on missed videos. This one got me curious about if you need bar chain oil for cutting these snow covered frozen logs, or is it like cutting logs on the 130 Max in the winter. Happy New Year by the way.

You need to work on getting your rounds same size . Customers don't want 8 to 20 inch. They like all the same size . You will get there.😊

My hat's off to you, Sandy. Looks too cold for me to be out there. At 72, I'm finding I have less ability to work in cold because poor circulation in my fingers. I can keep my torso and everything else warm but not my fingers. What is the temperature there during that video? Did a little firewood work today in 40* F temps. A little too warm for the way I was dressed so I had to remove a layer. I enjoy watching these new fangled splitters though I have no hope of ever owning one since I'm only doing firewood for my own boiler. Work safely and happy new year.

Nice setup.. good to see you changed the workflow slightly so you are not picking up the block and doing 180 back to the splitter... After about 30 years of cutting wood I gave it up back in 2008 and switched to an alternative heating source.. A decision I don't regret however, had this Easton existed back then, who knows I may still be cutting wood. I was going to suggest you reduce the stroke , however you addressed that at the 14 minute mark. Another thought may be to run the conveyor no faster then required to carry your material away.. My only logic is reduced ware over time.

Hi Sandy, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family. Like usual, I have a couple of thoughts and opinions on your videos. First, I was not convinced about vertical splitters, but I also have fallen in love with the size control that they afford you! Everything from large chunks to very small, yet consistent pieces!! And second, I look at someone's idea and think about a better way to do it, but your layout is virtually flawless!! Between the flow of it and the ergonomics of it, I love it!! What about evenly spaced rollers 8 inches apart, giving you 2 per chunk, and a 4 inch setback from your cut line, letting you slide even large pieces to your lift/staging area???

Hey sandy, I need to build a log deck for my home made firewood processor for the staging efficiency of it. I would encourage you to check out one of my processor videos. I never bend over in the process. I do need a conveyor though for sure. I watched all your videos on the 3 point hitch winch, and then I found a deal on a log skidder I simply could not pass up. For the terrain I have here it is very steep and my concern was that even with the tractor with chains and loaded rears I could do it, but jt would be hard on the tractor.... atleast that is the story I gave my wife. 😉

Hi Sandy, Just ordered a pair of those boots. 30 years in military really hardened my feet. Could you still use your splitter in the shop shop? put the totes on the other side. Would have to use forks to put the spitter in there tho. I like the idea of keeping things out of the weather.
