Full account of the Cessna airplane accident at Holly Ridge, North Carolina on August 4, 2022. The landing gear catches the power lines on approach to runway 14 and the aircraft rotates 360 degrees to land upright! The pilot receives only minor injuries! The entire event is captured on the airport video surveillance camera!

Astounding. I think the pilot was lucky in this instance that the aircraft flipped because it allowed the tail and unoccupied portion of the fuselage to absorb the impact.

I've flown into this airport . The plane shown at 3;13 is mine. It was a safe approach into runway 14 as long as you do your homework and have a approach angle that takes the wires into consideration. However, having balls on the wires would make a big improvement in safety for the uninformed pilot .

This airport looks like a death trap. Aside from the misplaced markers and invisible power lines, is that sign in the middle of the runway? Are these little airports "land at your own risk" or are they regulated?

Why tempt fate? A runway with power lines in such close proximity seems idiotic no matter how displaced the threshold is...

Which came first, the private airstrip or the power lines? If the latter, I should think the power lines could have been moved further from the end of the runway. At the very least they should have been required to install the balls on the top tension line!

Yes, absolutely! I really don’t know why they don’t position the threshold yellow cone markers farther down the runway. An extra couple of hundred feet would make a big difference! Cheers!

Looks like Holy Ridge airport needs to get some balls!! Such an easy cure for this death hazard.

Thanks for watching and commenting! There have been other similar accidents at the airport with more serious consequences! Such a simple fix as you indicate by the power company to avoid future injuries and possible death. Blue skies!
