That's great thanks Pete - super useful for anyone looking to get into flying! Great to see how you make fitness a key part of your life - they should teach that at school imo! Looking forward to the next vlog! Hey do u recommend atp flight school? I’m finishing up my private rn at a small flight school in Michigan and it’s going kinda slow due to weather and planes being down some of the time. I’m considering atp, but at the same time idk if I wanna get a loan in this economic time(I can’t afford atp lol)
@MrTyshark9
@MrTyshark9 Жыл бұрын
@@PickleRickSanchez hey man, atp has been pretty good! I’m in Utah and we’ve been getting delayed a bit too cause of weather. Coming into atp with your private would be great I think, I like it a lot and my instructor is great. It’s pretty fast paced so if you’re a slow learner I probably wouldn’t recommend it. The loan is a big bullet to bite haha but they do let you defer payments. From other schools I’ve looked into it seems like they’re all relatively close in price. I wanted to go somewhere that’s gonna get my ratings quick so I can start building seniority. Plus with what the regionals are paying now you should be able to pay the loan of relatively quick (at least that’s the hope lol). Hope that gives you a little insight.

Great Vlog.. always interesting to look into the work life of a freghter pilot .. wondering if the Fedex 767s are CPDLC equipped? Rare to get voice clearances nowadays .. thanks as always!
@pilotpetefly
@pilotpetefly Жыл бұрын
They sure are! If you watch the video departing out of PHL, you’ll see our clearance was delivered via CPDLC. In AFW however, the airport there isn’t equipped with CPDLC, that’s why you see me getting the clearance via voice. It’s rare, but at some of the smaller airpots we have to do the old school way via voice.

Can you make a vedio for international students who want to come to us for flight school? And how to be able to migrate afterword and get a work visa? I have a question , let's say I finihs my flight training and was able to get a work visa or even got a green card can I fly corporate jets while having less than 1500 hrs. ? I believe it's allowed under part 135 or something like that
@pilotpetefly
@pilotpetefly Жыл бұрын
Hey, Thanks so much! That’s correct, as long as you have “the right to work in the USA” (visa/green card) then you can fly for a US Carrier. With less than 1500 hours, you can fly corporate, part 91/135, no issues. I had about 650 hours when I fly Hawker 800s for a corporate company. The 1500 hour rule applies to part 121 (airlines) only

Hey Pete, not a pilot or in the industry - can you explain the travelbank stuff and the deviating you were talking about in the beginning? Does your company give you money to purchase flight tickets to deadhead to Philly or ind? and you just rented a car to Philly instead?
@pilotpetefly
@pilotpetefly Жыл бұрын
Hey, yeah it’s very unique to my airline so not many ppl, pilots or not, know about it. I had a deadhead (or get their pilots in position to fly out of a different airport that’s not their base) to start my trip. It’s my obligation to get to IND, because that is my base. However, any trip that starts or ends not in IND, it is the company’s job to get me to where ever (this case PHL). So they purchased a flight on AA from IND-PHL for me. I went and deviated (canceled that flight) and “bank” that money to be used at my discretion. I used some of that $ to rent a car and drive to PHL. The surplus money I saved stays in my bank, and I can use it to commute/travel to and from different places. It’s one of the best perks we have!
@reyesben
@reyesben Жыл бұрын
Interesting video! Does the airline always get you a hotel room when you have a long layover between flights? How long does the layover need to be to warrant a hotel room? Also, do you get a hotel award points? Do any airports have crew rest areas that have a gym?
@pilotpetefly
@pilotpetefly Жыл бұрын
Hotel is provided for any layover greater than 4 hours long. Points varies on the specific hotel, sometimes yes, sometimes no. All depends on the agreement they have with the airline. I’d say 60% do not, 40% we do. Yep, our major hubs, MEM and IND both have really nice private sleep rooms, and a gym!

@pilotpetefly

It’s not necessarily a cargo operator thing. But at my company, whenever we have a layover longer than 4 hours, our contact says we are required a hotel. Alternative would be canceling the hotel, banking $35 into our “hotel bank” to be used for travel, and then just staying at the airport and/or using the rest facilities at the airport that are provided for us.

Hello, I have just recently found your channel and I really enjoy both your content and perspective in the day-to-day airline pilot life. A question for you: What is your opinion on job satisfaction vs quality of life? I am currently finishing commercial multi at Embry riddle and still have to get my CFI/II so I have a bit more to go but I am strongly considering going to the airlines because I like the consistency and the potential QOL. As of now my first choice would be after CFI going to endeavor then SouthWest. I think my second choice would be something like Delta. I like SouthWest for their bases and company culture and anecdotes about QOL from pilots. However unlike SouthWest, at delta you at least have to option of flying a variety of different aircraft as well as more international routes. Delta (For me) has more unfavorable bases than southwest so I feel my chances of commuting would be higher and from what I gather, commuting can be a huge QOL disruptor. But in southwest your only option is to fly the 737 and their captain upgrade time is, I believe a bit longer than most other airlines. To summarize: do you feel like commuting is worth it to have the opportunity to fly a variety of equipment to a wider variety of destinations? Or do you think it would be best to potentially have a better QOL at an airline that flys one aircraft mostly domestically? I’m pretty sure you don’t work for either of these companies and you may not be able to speak on behalf of them and it’s also a very subjective question, but I just wanted to hear your opinion about it as it seems you’re commuting to fly with a company that has a variety of aircraft/destinations. Great videos btw and keep up the great work!
@pilotpetefly

You can’t go wrong with either. Focus on finishing your training, and enjoying that. When you meet pilots during travel, pick their brains about what they like and don’t like about their job. Apply to ALL the airlines, the ones that hire you, you then can make the decision that best fits your lifestyle.
