As a former UK police constable I cannot help but think we have an easier justice system: if you do not have insurance for the car that you are driving it is seized and (more often than not) crushed. Insurance companies require you to have a valid driving licence, if you do not have a licence - you do not have insurance and your car is seized and (definitely) crushed. If it is not your car and you stole it, you get charged theft, no licence and no insurance. If someone let you use their car - you get the charges, the car gets seized / crushed and the owner gets a charge of 'permitting'. Admittedly we have a legal system that is not political, the only people who can legally interfere with a court action is the Home Secretary or the Prime Minister and they mostly deal with pardons. Our judges and magistrates are not part of a popularity contest or an election campaign. It is not perfect, of course not, but it seems to work better than a system that allows killers to offend multiple time having been caught. A very good UK judge made a comment that building prisons creates jobs, staffing prisons creates careers, filling prisons saves lives ...

The work you do, helps make my job just a little more safer, and helps me keep my promise to my kids that I return home alive every time. I have lost count, of how many times I've had to pull an evasive maneuver with a semi (which isn't easy with upwards of 40,000lbs of freight in the back) to avoid being hit by (or hitting) some individual that is so selfish they think it's okay to drive intoxicated in one way or another. Thank you, and thank you to all law enforcement that do everything they can to keep our roads safe for all of us to return home alive.
