You're welcome! Glad you found this helpful! It was an awesome product for me especially because I could only use the big chainrings up front on my Bafang setup. Needed a bigger cog in the rear so this spider did the trick!

I like that. I'm using two chainrings on my 1000w fattie because I live in extreme mountains, 30t and 44t. Might just turn it into a two speed.

I wanted to do something like that but figuring out the chain length when changing may be an issue for me since I don't have a rear derailleur. Instead a chain tensioner.

I built a cargo bike for Antie Hulia last summer with a BBHSD with 42t up front and used a freewheel 104BCD sprocket adapter from Sick Bike Parts, and used a 36t at first and she got about 18mph, them dropped to a 30t and she got about 21mph. I got her on 24" rims, so that may make it a little different. She is happy, but she is going to get an IGH for this spring because it's Auntie Hulia c'mon.

Nice! Thanks for sharing that site! They have lots of cool parts on there and I see the spider adapter you used. It wouldn't have worked for my application but it's good to know there are different styles out there! Auntie Hulia is a speed demon! lol. I may switch to a 42t up front sometime down the line but still testing this current setup for now. I do max out at 18.5mph and unable to pedal to go faster so it's all motor at that point with the 34t rear sprocket. Now I can work on less braking to go faster on downhills 🤘. Thanks for commenting! 👍👍

I had a OEM 11t-32 t upgraded to a 11t-40t with a Bafang 750 w 44 T chainring stock. I tried a 11t- 46 t no good chain started popping switch back to 11t-40t. I just got the 38 T chainring and will see how it performs.

What kind of bike do you have? Due to my bike frame and chainstay measurements, i can only go as low as 42T in the front chainring.

I'm about to test a 30t front to a series of rear sizes 30,42,46,52 using this pinion rear spider, with a 20" tire. 72v + significant over speed with phaserunner and BBSHD. Should be a hoot, wouldn't dream of peddling, thank you for posting your video and parts!!

Happy to help!! Sounds like you're going to have some fun! 🤣 Be safe and please let me know what you think about the rear sizes! I've been contemplating doing the same. Since the lowest I can go in the front is a 42t, I wanted to play with sizing the rear for better climbing capabilities.

@@BM-zm1jl I made 28t lekkie to 52t work... sort of. The single speed chain doesn't mesh well after it hops a tooth on the rear chainring ... some oddity with narrow wide ring and this kmc chain, so will take the ring down a tad with sand paper, and try again. The cause of the hop is puzzling. It is a tank though. Will report on top speed later but its not over 12mph.

How do yall think this would work on a 20inch wheel fat tire bike? Thanks for any imput
@FirstTimersCycling
@FirstTimersCycling Жыл бұрын
With the smaller wheel height, it should be easier to rotate. Mainly depends on the weight of the bike and what gearing you select if you are going single speed. The BBSHD is pretty beast if you ask me.

This is the Spider gear adapter I was talking about that I'm using. It allows me to use front chainrings for the rear with BCD of 104. As long as you have a splined rear, this adapter should work.

why not run an internal geared hub like shimano nexus inter 3 ? i run (at the moment) an 1800w ebike kit i got a long time ago from sick bike parts anyway my 3 speed hub has done nearly 5000 miles apart from basic servicing swapping new chain cogs an a squirt of oil mix down the shift skewer hole, about every 1000mile i strip the hub clean an grease it with automotive wheel bearing grease(more so for my own peace of mind) it's proven to handle the power in fact it's actually my second hub the first had a back peddle brake it did near 8000 miles before i got the new one so i could adapt a disc brake instead of the rim brakes (the SBP kit adds a free wheel at the crank which makes the back peddle useless) i'll also add i originally tried a sturmey archer 3 speed hub with my 1st mid drive it was 1200w it was shit, it would jam/bind up and ended up breaking didn't matter what i did, it's shifts were never smooth tho other claim to of had success with it i never did......

does this adapter for the rear cog fit shimano freewheel or cassettes only?
@FirstTimersCycling
@FirstTimersCycling 2 жыл бұрын
Hello and thank you for commenting. This pinion adapter fits on shimano style freewheel hubs only. A cassette would negate the need for using this adapter as this adapter can only mount a single cog. Perhaps I may be misunderstanding that part of your question?
@venyalileeofthevallee9984

@@FirstTimersCycling Ok let me see if I can explain a little better. I have a cheaper mongoose fat bike that came with 7 speed rear and 1 speed crank. I have since added a bbshd and a luna mini 30 front. problem is my chain line, it is so off that after around 100 miles the front mini 30 is all warn out. So I took the rear gear apart and according to my understanding it is a typical freewheel. I want to add that same spyder adapter and a 30t 104bcd gear that I have laying around. I went on the website and it has no information if it fits freewheel style or cassette style rears. So technically if you have a freewheel then it would also fit my bike since I have a freewheel. But if your bike is a cassette style then it may or may not fit a freewheel, so that was just the question. But your response stated that it fits a shimano style freewheel hub and that is what I have. Sorry for the misunderstanding question. Maybe this will help other people.

@@venyalileeofthevallee9984 Okay cool. Yeah my bike had a cassette with a shimano freehub system which I then used the adapter to mount the single 104bcd chainring for the rear. This device will not fit a threaded freewheel system as the hub system uses threads instead of splines. Here is a good website by ParkTool that explains this pretty well. => www.parktool.com/blog/repair-help/determining-cassette-freewheel-type No apologies necessary, we are all learning and that's what we want on this channel and to help others going through this process! 👍👍 I hope that answers your question though.

@@venyalileeofthevallee9984 Another thing to point out, with the Freewheel system, it usually connects onto the rear dropouts with nuts. For the Cassette system, you either have a QR (quick release) or a TA (Thru-axle) to connect to the dropouts of the bike.

Why not remove more links from the chain, and eliminate the tensioner?
@FirstTimersCycling
@FirstTimersCycling Жыл бұрын
Tried that. It is just tobthe point of removing links, and the chain is too short to lock. Add the link back and it's too long sobit needs the tensioner.

dude change out the front chainring, that thing is so heavy! Chain goes above the wheel tensioner. everyone puts those on wrong
@FirstTimersCycling
@FirstTimersCycling 2 жыл бұрын
Agreed! The chainring is super heavy. I can only change it down to a 42T due to my chainline so I ended up just changing the rear instead. I am aware about the tensioner setting. It even states that on the packaging. Installing it the way I did is not wrong but just not ideal. In a previous video when I converted to SS, I tried putting the tensioner in the up position but it wouldnt work for my setup. Thanks for the heads up and for commenting!

@@FirstTimersCycling you can use your derailleur just lock it place with the high an low screws that'll let your chain wrap round the chainring more but still keep your chain under good tension ......... that's all i did with my tank...
@FirstTimersCycling
@FirstTimersCycling 2 жыл бұрын
The main reason I went with this setup was because on one of our rides, the derailleur just snapped. I know I could have just sourced out another derailleur, but something about running SS appealed to me.

have you tested the range with this high RPM setup? I'm wondering what RPM #s are most efficient
@FirstTimersCycling
@FirstTimersCycling Жыл бұрын
Haven't tested just for range but I do compare it to Alvin's setup with his geared Bafang 52v setup. I tend to run through battery quicker on uphills but in the end I still have battery when his is fully depleted. It could be factors of weight and power assist selections though since he's a lot heavier than I am.
