I was at the tour at Nassau Coliseum on February 20, 1980. I have to think my long lost friend June, whose mom, bless her soul, at worked at Gimbels (remember them?) in my old neighborhood inNortheast Philadelphia (where Marc Brickman, who was the lighting designer for this tour and some 30 years designed the lighting for Roger Waters Wall tours as well as the Rascals once upon a dream tour, is also from). I was very grateful that I was able to get tickets through her mom to see this show, which I would have never been able to get. This was my number one concert of all time, even surpassing Roger Waters will tours despite how great the advanced sound and visuals were.

I had to chuckle when Roger Waters said he would never attempt anything like this again. Little did he know then that technology would advance enough to make it possible, 30 years later, to turn an even grander version of this show into the highest grossing solo tour of all time.

It’s hard to believe that this was 40 years ago. I was in 8th grade, when this album came out. It had teachers in a panic. At the end of 8th grade, our class was allowed to have a party, and bring in records to play. However, the teacher immediately followed that, by saying that this album was forbidden. Yes, it was a Catholic grimmer school. You only forbid, what you truly fear.

Hai miliardi di ragione, Willam. Io sono una docente di Filosofia e Storia in un liceo classico. Anni fa all'inizio dell'anno scolastico il primo giorno di scuola facevo ascoltare il brano TIME e poi ANOTHER BRICK IN THE WALL.

I would of loved to seen this show live. The closest venue for me at the time was Nassau Colosseum in February 1980. My Parents introduced me to Pink Floyd music in the 70s and early 80s. Unfortunately, when the February 1980 shows played.... I was only 7 years old. I missed it by a few years! I didn't get to see PF until 1988 with the Gilmour led era. Waters and Gilmour have to dig out the live footage and give it a 4k release would be spectacular! Even if Waters thinks it's sub par. Great video! Thanks for sharing!

The logistics and painstaking production to put on a show like this were amazing 35 years ago. Now, improved technology has thankfully allowed this production to tour many locations all over the world many times. I saw The Wall concert almost 3 years ago and it is just a stunning visual and musical experience. It is as if this concept of show was way ahead of it's time back in 1980. It is now done properly and with much more efficiency. Great documentary!!

There's this funny anecdote about the rehearsals for the "Animals" tour, which again was a whole show onto its own. During soundchecks David Gilmour remarked that one of his Hiwatt amps didn't sound right, so he told his Roadie to check it, he couldn't find a fault but regardless Gilmour told him to take the amp away and take another Hiwatt from the band's storage to replace it. The roadie unplugged the amp, took it away, waited a few minutes before returning with the same amp, only to find how good Gilmour's hearing is...

Hah! That show in NY that he was talking about where a projector failed is the one I was at! For a tech-geek college freshman it doesn't get any better than that. The other thing I loved was that I was in the cheap seats, in the end zone as far as you could get from the stage, and yet... During the solo in Comfortably Numb, with no light in the theater other than 10 kilowatts of narrow spotlight behind Gilmour, that light was aimed straight at us. We had the best seats in the house! Also that location made it easy to watch the tech booth (which was the size of a small venue).

Today, we have relatively compact neat line array sound systems that delivery incredible clarity, fidelity and SPL. Looking at my photos of four Wall concerts I attended in 1980 and 1981 at Earls Court, it's incredible to think of the vast but relatively inefficient piles of bass bins, mids and compression horns that constituted large scale sound systems in the 70s and early 80s. There was a very distinct honkiness and spectral patchiness to the sound. Yes, it was very loud, but no one knew any better. None-the-less, it was supremely enjoyable.

Ahh yes, brag time: Had great seats at the 1st show in LA at Sports Arena, a pretty good show. I had already seen them in Waterbury CT @ the Palace '73 when the first half of show before intermission was all classics - Careful, Domine, Interstellar, Echoes etc, and then the 2nd half debuted Dark Side with the heartbeat in surround....THAT show was epic. By the time the Wall came out we were jaded. I had seen ALL the best from AC/DC to ZZ Zappa Top/Queen/Bowie/ELP/Crimson/Eagles/Purple/Sabbath/Who/Boss 3 times/StevieRay. All the big hair jerks on Sunset blvd VH/QR/Ratt/RacerX etc were our nightly beer entertainment after work at Starwood or Gazzaris or Roxy/Rainbow joints, on and on, but still I'm glad in an egotistical way that I can brag about it more than it being all that. Sorry kids, if you aren't a boomer you missed the good stuff. No brag, just fact. lol 🎸

I was there on Sunday, in one of 7 concerts in a row. In Dortmund. I guess it was in 1981 (or 1980 not 100% sure). the crazy thing is, 4 years later I met a girl with who I am still together until this day, we are together for 38 years now and we are still not married. she is my soul twin, I am in such a lucky situation that I have found true love. and the thing is, after we have been together for 25 years, we figured out, that both of us were there. we were at the same concert. and we haven't met yet. that happened 4 years later. what a strange coincidence.

I can't tell if the awkwardness of the narrative is poorly-translated English, or early AI.

I remember a local radio station was giving away tickets and expenses paid to the London show if you could name a montage of songs by, oddly enough, Journey. I knew all the songs but never called to enter the contest. Oh well 🤷‍♂

10:14 Apples that weigh 2 lbs ?!? Maybe now (2023) with GMF they can do a lot of things that weren't possible in 1980. Back then, a 2 lbs apple was a freak of nature.

Shame that they only performed this at about 4 places or so. I have the NY show via a boot....it's fantastic and well-recorded.

If Roger eliminated 80% of the stage show...they could have booked Royal Albert Hall and produce the best concert film known to man.

Is 'The Wall' the top selling title of all time, or is 'The Darkside Of The Moon' the top selling title of all time, of PF history? Which was more successful?? These documentaries need to get it straight! They either were equally successful or one of those albums out sold and was more popular in comparison. Pink Floyd either way is still the best rock n roll band of all time.

+Danny Vasquez Dark Side outsold the Wall by a lot. It's the second best-selling record of all-time, only behind Michael Jackson I think.

You're in the right ballpark. Album sales figures are controversial but at a certified 46M, 'Thriller' is far beyond anything else. Using the same criteria: The Eagles 'Greatest Hits' (~32M) 'Rumours' (~28M) The Bodyguard soundtrack (27.5M) 'Back In Black' (~26M) 'DSOTM' (~24M) And way down the list, 'The Wall' (~17.6) IMO, DSOTM really stands the test of time. Some of the others, not so much.
