Good call on Animals. It's an absolute masterpiece. Here's mine: 15. The Final Cut 14. More 13. Ummagumma (this is low only because I'm not including the live album. The live album is one of my favorite Floyd releases) 12. The Endless River 11. The Wall 10. A Momentary Lapse of Reason 09. Obscured By Clouds 08. The Division Bell 07. Atom Heart Mother 06. Hi from The Syd Barrett Archives! Here is my list (40+ year fan): 01. Meddle 02. Piper At The Gates of Dawn 03. Animals 04. Darkside of the Moon 05. Atom Heart Mother 06. Obscured by Clouds 07. More 08. The Wall 09. Wish You Were Here 10. The Final Cut 11. The Division Bell 12. A Saucerful of Secrets 13. Ummagumma 14. A Momentary Lapse of Reason 15. The Endless River The fact that you put the Gilmour Floyd albums above Meddle and Piper hurts my soul. The Endless River is just a bunch of outtakes, Momentary Lapse is a Gilmour solo album, and aside from a couple of songs the Floyd guys didn't write the lyrics on Division Bell. Hard to take those 3 albums as Floyd cannon, now don't get me wrong, I still like them, but not above the rest. The Final Cut sounded more like a Floyd album than Momentary Lapse.

This is tough to rank actually and this could change but this is it for now: 1. Wish You Were Here 2. Animals 3. The Dark Side of the Moon 4. The Wall 5. Meddle 6. Obscured by Clouds 7. A Momentary Lapse of Reason 8. A Saucerful of Secrets 9. Atom Heart Mother 10. The Division Bell 11. The Piper at the Gates of Dawn 12. The Final Cut 13. More 14. The Endless River 15. Ummagumma Couple notes- the “big four” are the big four for a reason, in my opinion these are perfect albums. I pretty much never get tired of them though I’d be good without ever hearing the songs from them on the radio. Meddle ranks high with me because I like every track, even Seamus. I know for years people have commented on that track kind of being a throwaway and I understand that opinion but I never had a problem with it. That and San Tropez are the lesser tracks on the album but I still enjoy them. Still Meddle is not strong enough to compete with the big four and I think that should be obvious, it doesn’t have as strong of an album feel to it. And outside of the top four these albums are hard to rank because these are mostly flawed albums in my opinion, but I still love them, and they jump around stylistically. They have enough all time great material for me to consider them one of my favorite bands ever, always wished that they did a little more with the classic lineup, a great run of albums in the 70’s though.

Your ranking is stupendous! I love it with passion. Personally I'd place Dark Side of the Moon even lower for I never got immensely fond of it because of the 'perceived' commercialised sound to my ear. Then it's a close tie between Animals and Wish You Were Here for me, so I don't know which to place at which place between numbers one and two. Having said that, I am a mega fan of these two albums as well; absolutely their best works.

Good call with Animals at #1. Maybe the others of the “big four” are “better” but I keep returning to Animals for it’s totally unique sound and vision, nothing else like it. I suppose in some way you have to pair it with the book Animal Farm but still the way it’s presented is totally self contained and undoubtedly one of their masterworks.

My favorite Pink Floyd album of all time is: The Final Cut… The reason why I like this album it’s because the sonics on there it’s just freaking incredible and I don’t think since a momentary lapse of reason all the way to the division Bell… none of those two that I mention never matched the sonic bombast of the final cut!!!

Interesting to see your ranking since you’re a huge fan. I agree that Rick Wright is a bit of an unsung hero since it was his keyboards, along with Gilmour’s guitar, that attracted me to the band. My favorite is Wish You Were Here, followed by Animals. Most grossly overrated is The Wall (way to whiny and depressing spread over 2 discs). Perhaps the most underrated is The Division Bell. Incredible album. Biggest surprise is The Endless River. I had all their albums up until this one. It got such poor reviews I never tried to listen to this until about a year ago. I was shocked at how much I liked it, so I now own it.

Really would’ve liked more tracks with Richard Wright on vocals, I really enjoyed his voice when they let him sing. And loved his playing, always something enjoyable to find any time he’s on an album. His keys on The Wall are a huge standout for example.

I like "The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn" a lot more. If this album and the singles from around that time were all that Pink Floyd had ever done, and they broke up when Syd Barrett had to go, they would still be remembered today. That is quite a good debut album. I would have it at #5 or #6.

Here goes mine, may be controversial (maybe not). Been a Floydian since age 3/4 and hardcore since 1987 (age 11) 1) Wish You Were Here 2) The Division Bell 3) Meddle 4) Atom Heart Mother 5) The Dark Side of the Moon (would be higher but burn out on radio) 6) Obscured by Clouds 7) A Momentary Lapse of Reason (Updated and Remixed, if it were the 1987 mix it would be lower but the Updated and Remixed with added drums from Nick and keyboards added from Rick it is what it should have been) 8) Animals (original 1977 mix, the remix is OK but I prefer original mix) 9) The Wall (again fatigue from radio) 10) The Endless River 11) The Piper at the Gates of Dawn 12) A Saucerful of Secrets 13) The Early Singles (I count as an album as it came in the Shine On box set) 14) More 15) Ummagumma 16) The Final Cut (1983 Mix, the 2004 revised RUINS the album) 17) Zabriskie Point Soundtrack 18) The 1965 Recordings (a band has to start somewhere) The Roger Kool Aid drinkers can stick this in their crack pipe. Most Waters fans also prefer David Lee Roth to Sammy Hagar, Judas Priest to Iron Maiden, Tommy Shaw was Styx, Solo albums (not counting Metallic Spheres which David was a guest with The Orb nor Music From The Body which was mostly Ron Geesin with contributions from Roger) 1) David Gilmour - About Face 2) Richard Wright - Wet Dream 3) Roger Waters - Amused to Death 4) Syd Barrett - Barrett 5) David Gilmour self titled 6) Roger Waters - Radio KAOS 7) Rick Wright - Broken China 8) David Gilmour - On an Island 9) David Gilmour - Rattle That Lock 10) Syd Barrett - The Madcap Laughs 11) Nick Mason - Fictitious Sports 12) Roger Waters - The Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking 13) Nick Mason and Rick Fenn - Profiles 14) Zee (Rick Wright and Dave Harris) - Identity 15) Roger Waters - Is This the Life We Really Want 16) Nick Mason and Rick Fenn - White Of the Eye 17) Roger Waters - The Lockdown Sessions 18) Roger Waters - The Dark Side of the Moon Redux

Absolutely, each album is very different so every ranking is a list of favourites. The only reliable indication of which is best has to be based on sales. So my list of favourites are 1. Meddle 2. Wish You Were Here 3. Atom Heart Mother 4. The Dark Side of the Moon 5. Obscured by Clouds 6. Animals 7. The Division Bell 8. More 9. A Saucer Full of Secrets 10. A piper at the Gates of Dawn Bottom 5 and why 11. The Endless River…. Not a real album, just a nod to Ricks way of doing things. Still enjoy it though and would be so much better if Nervana was included. 12. The Wall . Hated this when it came out. I thought Disco had no place on a Floyd album. Too much dirge filler, too many classical instruments drowning out the precious little of Rick there. Rogers voice is irritating. 13. A momentary Lapse of Reason. A Gilmore solo record trying too hard to sound like Floyd. The original version sounds stuck in the eighties. The remastered version is much better from what I have heard. 14. The Final Cut. Just another brick in the wall, as in too many classical instruments, no Rick, barely any Nick or Dave. Rogers voice is even more irritating than on The Wall. 15. Ummagumma. Worth getting for the live disc and would be higher if I included it in my rating. The Nick and Rick pieces are unlistenable, Grantchester meadows is okay, much better versions with David as a duet. Grooving with a pict is fun at first but becomes tedious. The Narrow Way is awesome and really the only thing I regularly listen to on the studio disc.

@@BrendonSnyder There is something warm and cozy about The Division Bell, I’ll give you that. And it’s bittersweet as it’s basically their last real album. But yes the songs just aren’t on the level of their all time best stuff, and that’s okay, that’s to be expected with where they were at in their timeline. Still a solid album and it’s nice to have Richard Wright back for one more album, though I also enjoy David Gilmour’s On an Island, which is the final album he played on if my info is correct.

Here's my current ranking for Floyd's catalog. I decided to rank them before I watched to give my unaffected picks and to let your ranking free from any consternation I might feel when I see one of my picks languishing in the basement of yours LOL! 15) Piper at the Gates of Dawn (Not a fan of the Syd era) 14) A Saucer Full of Secrets (Less Syd but, still not Pink Floyd) 13) Ummagumma (Still sounding lost and experimental) 12) Atom Heart Mother (Beginning to find a direction) 11) More (Some glimpses of what would develop into the band we know and love) 10) Obscured By Clouds (A few more flashes of the brilliant gem that lie in the bottom of Floyd's collective bag of tricks) 09) The Endless River (This is a very moody album and a nice tribute to Richard Wright) 08) The Final Cut (Not a true classic in the discography but, a solid choice for a huge Floyd fan all the same) 07) Meddle (Underrated in the catalog. A great album for a walk with headphones/earbuds.) 06) The Division Bell (could be five were it not for the incredible remix of MLOR) 05) A Momentary Lapse of Reason (Later Years remix) 04) The Wall (Brilliant album but, a little self indulgent on Roger's end. Gilmour's voice and guitar absolutely make this a classic!) 03) Dark Side of the Moon (Possibly the greatest concept album ever written. Roger's most insightful lyrics ever) 02) Wish You Were Here (Some of the greatest music ever put to tape!) 01) Animals (So freaking brilliant! Gilmour shines on this album!)

Good one! There are two kinds of PF fans: Those that think DSOTM is the greatest and those that think Animals is the greatest 🙂 I understand your reasoning. I'm probably more of the conventional wisdom here. Dark Side is a perfect album, a timeless masterpiece, an evergreen like Mozarts Requem, it's flawless and an experience on the grandest scale. But yes, it can be overplayed. Right after it is Wish You Were Here. I actually play it more often than Dark Side, and it is more emotionally gripping, just a fantastic album and great musical experience but not completely flawless. To pick between these two is like choosing one of your babies, it's almost a crime, but there it is. And the third is Animals, which is a great great album, not doubt. It rocks hard and is really engaging and the most headbopping of the three. Everything else comes after that and I largely lost interest after The Wall, sad to say. Last note: Echoes is another timeless masterpiece and I love it to death.

I think that the cover art for Atom Heart Mother is very appropriate, as a couple of the songs (Roger Waters' "IF", and David Gilmour's "Fat Old Sun") are both folkish/pastoral.

I’m with Brendon in that I don’t particularly like the album cover but I like that they were moving away from the psychedelic and abstract presentation to a more simple less assuming artwork style. It somewhat looks like what a 90’s indie artist would have as an album cover.

Back in the day I was 14 I bought Atom Heart Mother because I liked the album cover. Shortly afterwards I got Ummagumma and then all their earlier albums and their subsequent albums as they were released. So by the time Dark Side of the Moon was released i already had all their earlier albums and thought they sold out to commercialism with “Money” being bombarded all over the radio. Therefore my ranking is from a different perspective than yours. 1. Atom Heart Mother 2. Meddle 3. Wish You Were Here 4. Obscured by Clouds 5. The Dark Side of the Moon 6. The Endless River 7. Mine goes like this 1) Wish You Were Here (on most days but trades with DSotM, check out the Stereo Quad Mix as the album is extended and more instruments were brought up in the mix and nothing removed) 2) Dark Side of the Moon (trades with WYWH) 3) The Division Bell (second Floyd album I was prepared for after AMLoR) 4) Meddle (loved from the time I heard all of it on WZLX in July, 1987) 5) The Wall (was Top 3 but I don't play as much since Is There Anybody Out There? supplanted it) 6) Atom Heart Mother 7) Obscured by Clouds 8) The Endless River 9) A Momentary Lapse of Reason (was lower but the Updated and Remixed changed it) 10) Animals (Roger singing the whole album grates on me and the 2018 Remix is why it is lower now, I always go to live bootlegs for Animals fix, see Vienna or Oakland and more of Rick and David in those performances) 11) A Saucerful of Secrets 12) The Piper At the Gates of Dawn 13) The Final Cut (the 2004 revised remaster is why it is lower) 14) More 15) Ummagumma That is Most played to least played. My least favorite Pink Floyd track never made it to an album, Heart Beat Pig Meat and the useless remake of Axe as Come In Number 51.

Brandon, Rick did play on Momentary Lapse and contributed some keyboards and backing vocals to the album. The Updated and Remixed version of the album is my go to now. Rick plays on Signs of Life, Learning to Fly, On the Turning Away, Terminal Frost and Sorrow.

Good call. I got the updated, remixed version on vinyl. Nice presentation with a gatefold, sounds great, really impressed. Personally I love the album, I know people just say it’s a Gilmour solo album, and I understand why they say that, the info on it is well documented, but it still retains the essence of Pink Floyd I think and I count it just the same. Maybe it is missing Roger’s contributions, not the strongest lyrically, but musically I like it a lot and see it as a logical step and a quality release from that era.

For me, Meddle was the first album on which they really became Pink Floyd, or at least what I would come to think of as the "Pink Floyd" sound. Personally, I see it as the precursor to Dark Side of the Moon, serving a similar function as Permanent Waves did for Rush....no Moving Pictures without PW, and no Dark Side without Meddle...just my two cents worth 😊

The band planned The Endless River and it was Youth and Phil Manzanera and engineer Andy Jackson who convinced David and Nick to release. Then they overdubbed new vocals and new guitar solos from David and even Nick redid the drums. They originally intended on finishing the album after The Division Bell Tour but David Gilmour’s family expanded and he put his children and wife above all else. I also love The Endless River as well.

But you gave a curious opening speech the substance of which suggested that people might be inclined to like what they are told to like. A critic can only tell you what they like and why - but the why might make one pay attention where one might not have. Btw I wholeheartedly agree with your take on The Wall, though I'm not sure I would place it at number one. But then I couldn't really do a ranking because I would be forever changing my mind.

I was waiting for this one! It is also my favorite band and roger is my favorite songwirter I love him so much My ranking : 1-Dark side of the Moon - My favorite album of all time, it got me into music and there is nothing I dislike about it, Us and them is my favorite track on here and is my 2nd favorite song of all time. Best track : Us and them Worst track : none 2-Meddle - Side a is pretty cool and has some great song but it is only at number two because of echoes, words cannot describe how much I like this song, the lyrics are perfect, the vibe and the music is great and gosh i'll stop talking about it now just know that it's my favorite song of all time Best track : echoes Worst track : San tropez 3-The wall - A fantastic rock opera, every song is great and just the story is so great to follow, it's the album that I find myself listening to most but it's still not my favorite, love the concept and how the songs are made, I can't really rank the songs because I have a new favorite one every week Best track(for now) : Nobody home Worst track : stop 4-Animals - It used to be my favorite album because every track is a 10/10 but I realized that this album didn't have the best lyrics or concept, it's weird but every song is a 10/10 unlike in any other floyd album but it's still not my favorite Best track : Pigs on the wing Worst track : Dogs? idk I can't choose 5-The final cut - the first four are probably gonna stay where they are but from now on, they can change anytime, at the moment I really enjoy listening to the final cut because of roger's writing and because it sounds alot like another album I like : TPACOH from roger in 1984. The tracks kinda sound alike but it's a good thing imo. Best track : two suns in the sunset worst track : get your filthy hands off my playlist 6 - Obscured by clouds - I love the sound from this era and I like the songwriting here. The music is a bit generic but I still like it alot, also it sounds like dark side so it has a major boost Best track : Wots uh the deal Worst track : Absolutly curtain 7 - Wish you were here - ''sigh'' Ik it's great and it's a 5 stars but I just don't like like as much as the other, also I don't like welcome to the machine Best track : WYWH worst track : welcome to the machine from now on I have nothing to say about the rest 8-ummagumma 9-Atom heart mother 10-Saucerful of secrets 11-more 12Piper at the gates of dawn 13-Momentary lapse of reason 14-division bell

Wish You Were Here Meddle Dark Side of the Moon Animals Division Bell Wish You Were Here and Meddle are basically tied for first(Seamus,,the song with the dog barking/howling on it, knocked Meddle out of first)...Dark Side used to be first, got tired of it. The Wall has a masterpiece single album inside a double album full of filler( yes, I know, the filler is needed for the story, I'm simply considering it for music quality). The Final Cut is, has been, and always will be the worst. The other albums not specifically listed are basically tied behind the first five.
