Getting enough space for your patients and staff to get from point A to point B is all well and good, but people have needs. Food, drink, entertainment, decorations and temperature all need to be tended to if you're going to have a smoothly running hospital. Note: One alternative strategy that I did NOT cover in this video was adorning your walls with gold star awards in place of the plants. The gold star awards already feel broken when used in room but the fact that they work in corridors pushes them into exploit territory IMHO. Thus, I opted to show you the 'traditional' way to decorate the corridors. The plants do need janitor attention but because none of them are behind a door, it doesn't take a janitor long at all to water one.

Benches keep patients happy while they wait. They aren't totally useless for early game when you don't have as many items to keep happiness up they are very handy

Another important thing: patients use waste bins for puking into them, and one bin can contain large number of pukes. Patients tend to puke often when their health is low, but they do so even with high health, so you can greatly reduce number of puke pools around your hospital by putting ~2 waste bins per treatment room near said room and 1 per GP office.

A good point. As for puking at high health, there are a few specific illnesses that cause puking no matter what the patient's health level is. Verbal Diarrhea is one I know for a fact, but there are likely others that do that too. On levels where those illnesses are common, your need for barf bins will be greater.

Am loving this game, the hours literally fly past. Your guides have been so informative and I love how in depth you go as this game needs it. Much appreciation for your efforts! A few questions for you please. Is the penalty for lacking comfort with benches that low that's its not important? Like another comment said I feel like it's wrong if their isn't any. Lmao. Also is there a certain range for vending machines, arcade, etc that patients will stick to or will they travel however far to reach one if their in need?

I've been playing TPH without using any of your builds or tips and got as far as Duckworth-Upon-Bilge without much difficulty, then tried doing Svelbard and Underlook Hotel using your builds and the levels went so much smoother than anything I have done before. I also never considered not using benches for my patients but it does speed things up as patients are not wasting frames getting up/sitting down.

He is wrong on that point and it was even patched to be even more potent soon after this video.

One important thing: use only Energy Drinks machines! Drinking from them make patients and stuff move much faster! However I have a strong suspicion that if there is at least one non-Energy drink machine, people will walk extra mile to get to it (not sure about this one because it could have been just pathing/priority bug; but still there is no reason to build anything other than Energy drink machines unless you like Moose Juice machine for looking cool =) ). Buff from Energy drinks machine is called "energized" or something (you can see it in person status); I'm not sure if it is applied always... but it is applied often enough to make a difference.

I'm going to be doing a quick tip video specifically focusing on the different *types* of vending machines, their uses, merits and flaws. This video was more concerned about the "Where" of vending machines, rather than the "What".

Idk about benches. They are largely useless, however they do neatly tuck people away, giving more room to your corridors. Plus, like how gold certification spamming feels exploitative and wrong, I feel dirty not using benches ever.

The only reason it doesn't feel cheaty to me is because of how the AI operates. A patient can go pretty far out of their way to find an empty bench and when called can slow the room way down if they have to travel a long time just to get from their bench to the door. If they tweaked the AI a bit to, say, have whomever is #1 in the queue be summoned to stand by the door while everybody else further back in the queue finds a seat, I'd be much more willing to use them as it wouldn't slow my queues down so much.

@@Pinstar its even worse with Wards: normally large group of people can enter the Ward simultaneously, however benches ruin this: I had case where I had Wards half-empty, while there was a queue of patients for this ward and who were dying from low health. This is a very annoying bug (

@@Pinstar II feel like you are both right. Sometimes benches are really helpful to me to keep people out of the way so that others can get by. However, to address the queue thing I just check in on the patient status often and move people around the queue. If someone is further away, I might move them down to give them time to walk over and move up someone who is close to the room they need to get to. I also use this to monitor who might die too soon and send them home instead of letting them die and upset other patients.

I always figured benches kept them happier and less tired. Are you saying they do nothing?? I’ve been wasting my life placing benches. 😂🙈

They don't do 'nothing' they slow the decay of needs slightly. However, the increase in animation time when a doctor calls a patient sitting on a bench is far worse for your hospital, decreasing patient flow. If they have no benches they wait right outside the door so the time between getting called and entering the room is minimal.

Wasn't aware that benches were basically useless. I feel that that needs addressing. Some sort of "Comfort" need seems appropriate.

I agree with you, though this could be difficult to balance. If the low-comfort penalty was too weak, I'd probably ignore it, but if it was too strong, benches would suddenly become the lynchpin around which entire hospitals were designed.

I find them useful, but optional. If I happen to have the space for one anyway, I'll place it, but if a particular area needs every tile it can get and a 2-wide hallway is the most I'll get, I won't sweat it.

Ive known that benches and chairs is useless in this kind of game (Ive played FUN HOSPITAL on phone since few years ago), but I dont know why I still using it here :/ I better start to delete it 🤭🤭

It is sad just how "left behind" this series feels now. With all the changes in-game almost nothing is accurate and he does not seem to be interested in doing remakes. Now benches have real effects on happiness Cafe are now a much better solution and can eliminate all need of vendored food/drink so you can devote halls to entertainment stuff.

I can revisit cafeterias and benches in testing and possibly do an update video on them if I find the game has changed significantly. Even if benches boost happiness, the loss in throughput due to travel and animation times is unlikely to be worth it. The last time I did testing on the cafe (around when I did the surgery block video) it performed about the same as it did when I did my Staffe video. I haven't seen any patch notes detailing any overhauls of either (but I could have missed those)
