🔅Welcome🔅
My name is Niki. I am a former high school chemistry & biology public school teacher turned homeschool mom of 4 kiddos. We are a secular homeschooling family, with a laid back schooling style. I'm a busy WAHM who just tries to stay afloat some days. But we would never change a thing!
I would love to get to know you better down in the comments, and I hope you'll stay awhile and chat ❤️

Thank you for this great demo, Niki!! Just to clarify, because Pinwheels Year 1 has some lessons that are spread across multiple days, the latest update of Pinwheels Year 1 does not include "day breaks" within the unit. Day breaks would have required a lot of repetition of lesson instructions across multiple days which would have added a lot more pages for printing. Instead, the update does include Unit Checklists with a list of each day's lessons. In the Unit Checklist, on any particular day we note if there is a lesson to be done that originated on a previous day so that the educator can reference back to the original instructions for that lesson.

Nothing wrong with starting reading later!!! I wish we had started teaching my older kids reading earlier but they were in public school and I thought they would be taught effectively!!! I do everything with my youngest but not with my olde struggling readers!!! I’ve noticed with my struggling readers the smaller words help with longer words!!! We found that hand motions helped my kids including my older kids and I don’t think they would do that at in front of their peers!!!

I agree! Delaying reading has helped a ton! I agree that the hand motions help so much with memory! Thanks for sharing and watching!

I am planning to use pinwheels for the next school year and I'm just prepping everything. Do you binde the workbook into a book or do you put it into a folder/binder? And if you bind the workbook is there a need for the binder that the child is supposed to make throughout the time of their pinwheels journey. X

I bind the student workbook pages into a spiral bound notebook. The appendix pages I put into a 3 ring binder. Something else that I did that saves a lot of time during lessons is to put each units little pieces (the books, sentence strips, etc.) into a page protector. It really helps me keep everything together. I also wrote the unit that each little piece goes to on the back incase something falls out. As for the binder that the students make throughout the lessons... I did do the binder with my first child that went through the program. It was helpful and worth the time. But I will say I've been lazy with my younger too and have not really utilized that binder much with them. I don't think it matters too much. But if you need to keep records for a portfolio review, then I highly recommend doing it. It was a great resource to present at our portfolio review. Hope that helps!
