I too prefer pipe tobacco for mostly the reasons you mention also the foul taste and smell of cigars that lingers in the room & your mouth after the smoke is not pleasant as pipe tobacco. That said i do on occasion smoke a Alonso Menendez Robusto which is a tasty Brazilian cigar and does not cost a arm & leg 128 euro for a box of 25. I once read a quote referring to pipe smoking, as follows, "The moment a man takes to a pipe, he becomes a philosopher. It's man's best friend; it calms the mind, soothes the temper, and makes a man patient under difficulties. It has made more good men, good husbands, kind masters, indulgent fathers, than any other blessed thing on this universal earth."

Agree with you on pretty much all points you made... Another big one for me is the aftertaste a cigar leaves in your mouth for 10 hrs.

Wonderful video! I agree with you completely. Complementing your point about pipe tobacco ritual, the different type of pipe tobacco presentations (flake, plug, crumble cake, etc…) makes the ritual and the preparation of the tobacco so much enjoyable! Nothing better than rubbing out a flake, preparing it to taste and patiently waiting to pack the bowl!

There are quite a few cigars that have pipe tobacco in them now but they are still higher dollars

Great points, very well made. I would add that pipe smoking is less wasteful as you typically smoke all the tobacco right down to the ash. With cigars, you are always left with a stub. At £30 for a decent Havana cigar, you are probably wasting £4 worth on the stub. Also, pipe smoking is less messy. With cigars, ash can get flicked here and there and stubs need to be disposed of, but with a pipe, all the ash is gathered at the bottom of the bowl can be tipped into the garden.

Fascinating topic Nathan! I have on occasion purchased some cheap OTC cigarillo's, or some Henri Winterman pre-cuts, usually in the summer months, a nice mid-day treat after devouring my lunchbox contents :) Outside of that indulgence, I can't imagine the financial outlay required to even obtain a modest stock of quality cigars for ones pending retirement. Pipe tobacco on the other hand has been a revelation and quite timely for me, enjoyable flavours and the endless subtlety of blends… and In terms of cost, no more expensive (currently) than NET's. Another bonus, tobacco ages, whereas e-liquid has a shelf life. However, like you I temper my enjoyment of tobacco using both vaping and the occasional bowel Regarding the enjoyment of pipes - I received today a commissioned pipe from a well known pipe maker, overjoyed! I noticed from your brief showing of your humidor that you have some very rare Cubans for instance the Partagas Serie D no 3 limited edition 2001 is not available anywhere, also the Cohiba Priamide Extra is very expensive nowadays. It is worth the effort to check out you humidor i have a sneaking feeling that some of your cigars are now collectables. As for the subject of this video i agree with you that pipes & pipe tobacco can deliver higher degree of enjoyment overall as you mentioned in the video but i personally do enjoy a good quality Dominican & Cuban Cigar on special occasions i would not allow myself to smoke cigars more often as i do believe the snobbery aspect in the cigar world has hiked the price beyond reason. May i add that my better half would not allow me to smoke any cigar indoors, on the contrary to pipe tobacco especially the Cult blood red moon & the Boswell's Sweet Dreams you recommended which she loves the aroma😊 Regards. Well I have a humidor full of great cigars, a pipe tobacco cellar with very nice cans, lots of Swedish snus in the freezer, a variety of snuffs, lots of e-liquid, e-cigarettes. Out of all of this arsenal of tobacco/nicotine products, for everyday purposes (ie: after dinner relax time) the pipe is my choice., hands down. For events, where smoking or even vaping is inappropriate, snus is my favorite. During the day I mostly vape. For special occasions, nothing beats a good Arturo Fuente. But my latest favorite way of enjoying tobacco is rolling filtered cigarettes out of high end pipe tobacco and just puff on it (no inhale) like with a cigarillo. This way of enjoying tobacco now is beating my vaping habit except when I have to be indoors. I wanted a way to enjoy pipe tobacco without the time investment. I think I found it. Anyways, thanks for this great video Nathan!

Nathan, maybe a weird idea, but you can smoke that faulty unraveled Montecristo in your pipe, put the two worlds together.

I personally just think that pipe smoking is more enjoyable, more relaxed, and makes a more fulfilling hobby, although the odd cigar is nice and enjoyable

Maybe vaping is cheapest👌Nathan and better to your health 👍

I like both to be honest but my wallet prefers pipe tobacco.
