Nice job you really made it look easy! Spud wrench too long for the 45 elbow. The landlord said that one of the radiators was too hot but he’s going to be disappointed, the way he could control the heating in the radiator is to close the vent valve or use a thermostatic air vent if there’s air in the radiator steam can’t go in, and the radiator valve needs to be wide open so condensate will drain back to the boiler otherwise he is going to get water hammer if the steam is coming up and the condensate is stuck in the radiator.

right, steam valves should be fully open or fully closed and nothing in between or banging may occur. radiator spud wrenches are cheap enough, get some extras and cut them off to fit.

For tight fitting jobs like this water heater, you might want to consider getting a torque multiplier to use with a ratcheting wrench. You get higher torque, but don't need to constantly remove the socket to adjust. It won't turn at quickly, since its just gear reduction, but might be easier with less adjusting, which might make up for the time lost.

to make life easier with those anode rods in tight places like that, a two foot, 1/2" flex head ratchet would do wonders or after you break it loose with your breaker bar have a shorter 1/2" ratchet so you dont have to reset every time. nice work, by the way.

I keep two Spud wrenches. On one of them, I cut the two smallest sections off so now it's a shorter spud wrench and I'm able to insert it fully without it interfering like in the case of the 45 that you mentioned.. and some other instances where I've used it..

An old school plumber would have used a pipe wrench out side the tank. To use as a bending point just incase that was to happen. Then it would not be in the bottom of the tank just saying.
@throttlebottle5906

you can use large bolt cutters to cut the anode rod in sections to get it out. obviously needs two people or clamps to hold the other part from falling in. cutting it any other way would cause too much debris in the tank. of course breaking it off wasn't great either, it laying on the bottom could cause a reaction and failure point, that said, not likely seeing how the rod is holding up in that water.

Brooklyn is a driver's nightmare. Watch out for red light cameras, speeding cameras, cops on the lookout for no seat belts, etc. Have fun finding a place to park

Ah, the joys of driving in Brooklyn! It's like a real-life obstacle course. Just remember to dodge the cameras and find that parking spot like a pro!
