Just for future jobs when you sweat copper that close to pex I always wrap a small wet rag around the pex and crimp fittings to keep that much heat off the pex I've seen pex start leaking after doing it that way . By the way I really appreciate you taking the time to make your videos. And that wasn't me criticizing you in anyway just a little tip and thanks again.

One of the most stellar valves ever made, Watts washing machine valve, double hot/cold ball valve, all within one handle. No packing nuts as within separated washing machine shut off valves, no corrosion from age, don't have to exersize watts valves from non use for years, as within single handle valves. Mostly applied within high end residentials, very good idea to have within any residential. Desire to go on a trip, even your kids can shut off water to washing machine, they are consumer friendly, easy to use valves. Well worthy within price.

Why not just shut off water when you leave then its only 1 valve for the whole house. IDK anything about valve shut offs. Why is this so good to have vs what is installed now?

Why not cut the PEX and eliminate the copper coupling? Same number of fittings but a cleaner repair.

the fitting brushes get beat up like that when u go back forth in both directions. if you only spin brush clockwise they last way longer

I think the green corrosion is from liquid bleach contact with copper and exposed solder at joints, or from bleach/chorine fumes in the air in the immediate laundry room area. I have seen this in the past and seems to show on the hot water side pipes more often. I noticed this on the water heater copper pipes in this video also.

Since I am OCD, I dont like the idea that only 1 ear is attached to the stud so I would of installed a backing piece of dimensional lumber that would of spanded 2 studs. Not sure I would want the copper pipes,against the drywall. The condensation from the cold could cause drywall damage

Or just use a drywall anchor if you're really that concerned (which you shouldn't be, that thing ain't going nowhere and will likely not even be touched again for a very long time until the next person replaces that valve). Homeowners won't like it either having a big ugly board in their laundry room when there wasn't one there before because it's unnecessary. As for condensation, do you see any damage on that wall when he removed the old piping that's been there for who knows how long? No, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Smartest way to do this if you wanted that foot of copper off the valve would be to solder the copper in the valve first, then pex adapters. Then all you have to do is crimp and screw it to the wall

I was going to say why even use copper there at this point. Is there a reason for that? Use a coper to Pex fitting I would assume would be faster and possibly last longer. Why not just remove that old part and use two new valves? Is the watts worth it?

Is it wise to measure (or know the measurement) of the pipe and then bend the solder at the same diameter length so you know how much you used? IDk just me thinking. Can you use Pex valve and mount it to the wall without that Watts to coper to Pex. Seems like a lot of changing in that laundry room and now more ways to fail I assume. I could be wrong but would be good to know why this valve vs another that matches the current piping.

Yeah just wondering why wouldn't you use pex and just pex to threaded adapter into the top of the washer valves, get rid of all the copper. Oh and then add pex valve into the water heater.

I will give you the usual "Well in my state" line...... Water heaters need to have a vacuum relief, inlet stop and pex cannot be within 24'" has to be copper. That said, all the vacuum relief is going to due is mess up when you turn the water back on and if your lucky you will only be replacing the water heater for free....

They're for separating the valve from the body. Therefore, eliminating the need to sweat on an entire new unit. Smart design.

When the Flux starts running down the pipe when it's heated wipe it with a rag so the solder doesn't follow the flux, nice fix though, I'm with you i mostly use pro press as well 👍

He does when he wants to make it a point to show that he does it. If you think every plumber reams every single pipe connection he does then you'd be wrong. It's not something that's super crucial so many skip it entirely and I'm quite certain the only reason we see reaming here is because it's on camera and you need to please the armchair critics who think every single pipe needs to be reamed otherwise the whole system will explode in a few months.

@@plumbbuild6517 If you're doing a whole new construction house in copper (which nobody does anymore but if they did) then yes, it would be more crucial to deburr all the pipes in that system. Not deburring a few connections for a service job like this would not be the end of the world and the quality of the job would not suffer any because of it. Is it proper? Technically no but can you get away without doing it? Yes and I wouldn't judge any other plumbers out there if they don't deburr every single pipe they solder because I don't either like 20% of the time. In service work, the part will fail long before the pipe ever does. That laundry valve will have to be replaced again by the time any premature erosion takes place by a non-deburred connection and that pipe will have to be cut out again anyway. That's how I look at it at least.
