To complete the interior renovation of the Piper Arrow - we put new leather upholstery on the seats and install them in the airplane. With this done, the restoration is complete and the airplane is ready to fly! Watch to see how to put new upholstery on the seats in your aircraft.
At long last, the renovation of the Piper Arrow interior is complete. Well, actually it was completed in May, but I have finally caught up with editing videos - so today I just uploaded the last step in the restoration process which was covering the seats with new leather upholstery. The video includes stripping the old seats down to the frames, refinishing the seat frames. Covering the frames in seat support material (webbing), adding the new seat foam and then finally covering it all in leather upholstery. In the coming days, I’ll post the final before and after unveiling of the newly completed interior.

I love this channel. Short of a lottery win, I will never own an aircraft. But I get to experience it vicariously through this channel :)

It took me about 50 years (always something else), but finally. In reality the airplane isn't much more than a car payment (because they are financed over a longer term than cars. It's the unknown maintenance items that can bite you - but that's with anything really. Monthly it costs me about 1400, (loan, hangar rent, insurance, annual inspection allotment) to have the airplane. It costs about $60 per hour in gas to fly, plus I put aside a few dollars per hour that I fly it in a maintenance reserve account. It's certainly not cheap - but can be manageable. Another option could by going halves on one with a friend.... - I'm really glad that you are enjoying the channel! Thank you very much for watching and for commenting.

Your videos are great. I will reference them OFTEN.. Just painted my 1975 Cherokee and decided to order the interior from Airtex while it was getting done. I ordered Ghastly Gray leather (formerly smoke) leather seats and Quick Silver Vinyl for the wall panels. I just received my seats today. Still waiting on hangar to open up, but I yanked my seats out to get started on that. Very excited about the project. I'm curious about the clamps you used for the seats. Going over to Harbor Freight or HD to find some. Is there a certain type or size of the clamp you recall? The ones in the video look perfect.

Sounds great! I got them at Home Depot. They were in a big box of spring clamps for 99 cents each. Let me know how the project turns out blueskyflight@outlook.com

I went through what you are last year. I went with cloth, the AirTex seats are nice. AirTex gave me the Home Depot part number for good hog ring pliers, ended up my A&P had a good pair. You interior looks great.

Thank you. Yeah they do a pretty nice job with all their stuff. Makes it pretty affordable to DIY a new interior. Definitely my least favorite part of the project was the hog rings… Thanks so much for the feedback

Nicely done, upholstery is really not that complicated, it only requires some attention to detail and you did. Look forward to see all seats in place. Cheers 🍻

great idea on doing the vacuum bag to the head rest! I am currently redoing my lance and also vacuum bagged the back rest and OMG did that make it way easier. Loved your videos but you cost me more money, lol. I ended up replacing all my windows and installed the sound and installation on the ceiling and side walls as well.. Question, how did the velcro work out on the side panels? I am not a huge fan on screwing the new side panels and wondered how that worked out for you?
@BlueSkyFlight
@BlueSkyFlight 6 ай бұрын
Thanks very much for all the feedback. I’m sure it’s money well spent :). Most all the panels are holding in place well with the Velcro. One exception is the main door. One corner gets pulled every time I open the door. But I actually think it’s because I’m a fraction off center and it’s too far over the edge by the opening. Taking it down for annual next month so I’ll try adjusting and see how that goes. Might put a few screws in there, but overall the Velcro worked great.

@@BlueSkyFlight thanks for getting back to me on that... Good to hear about the velcro and think that is the way I am going to proceed. Have great weekend!

Great job! I have been giving some thought to the Airtex covers for my Commander. What about armrests on the door cards and padded center console if needed? You have much more patience than I do, that's for sure. I'm not sure I could have audio for the hog ring install..... :)
@BlueSkyFlight
@BlueSkyFlight 11 ай бұрын
Yeah I did a little something with the armrest to get rid of the ash tray… but it’s a temporary fix… I’ll show tgat and other little details in the next video. Thought about doing something for a center console. It’s still on the table… Hog Rings were definitely the most painful part of the renovation… ouch… lol

Maybe I missed it, but did you do a before and after weight?
@BlueSkyFlight
@BlueSkyFlight 10 ай бұрын
I probably should have done a before and after weight of each seat, but I honestly can’t think it could have changed much if at all. The frames are the same. The foam is incredibly light and while the new are slightly thicker… its still mostly air so I’d think the difference is negligible. The seat material that i removed didn’t feel any different in weight than the new.

What type of grease do you recommend for the seat rollers ?
@BlueSkyFlight
@BlueSkyFlight 9 ай бұрын
I just used some corrosionx, but check with an A&P to see what they recommend. So far it’s kept them rolling well

@@BlueSkyFlight I haven’t used corrosionx yet, that’s just a spray? Didn’t know it was lubricating.
@BlueSkyFlight
@BlueSkyFlight 8 ай бұрын
It’s a liquid and can be applied using a spray bottle in small areas, or brushed on individual bolts, etc… or can be used to fog large interior areas like wings. But it’s similar to stuff like wd40 in that it is a lubricant, but with much greater corrosion protection.
