I think the Vertical Stab is built with RV7 parts (VS 7xx) and that’s why they aren’t final drilled. Same with some of the rudder parts (R-912). When you get to the 14xx, and most of the 10xx part numbers, they are final drilled. I’m enjoying the series, thanks for putting these out

Rotax appears to discourage the use of quick drains on their oil tanks and I am debating whether to just invest in a siphon pump and remove most of the oil that way before removing the stock drain plug and getting oil all over the firewall and engine mount. I wish Rotax had provided a much better drain system given where most of their oil tanks get mounted.
@BlueSkyFlight19 күн бұрын
What is their reason for discouraging?
@LTVoyager19 күн бұрын
@@BlueSkyFlight I have no idea. I suspect they simply don’t want to take the time to test different quick drains and the easy legal solution is to simply say they can’t be used. My airplane is a homebuilt, so I can use whatever I want, however, I generally try to stay close to generally accepted practices and manufacturers recommendations.

The Saf-Air web site clearly calls out the issue with the Piper Arrow. Whenever someone performs improper maintenance or repair on an airplane, it can create a hazard. I had a significant oil leak (6 quarts in 1.5 hours) on my Skylane years ago. It was due to an A&P who didn’t confirm that the oil filter gasket had come off with the old filter and ended up double gasketing the filter. Well, two gaskets won’t contain the oil pressure and I landed after a 1.5 hour flight with oil all over the belly of the airplane. Somewhat disconcerting and took nearly a full day to clean up.

@BlueSkyFlight29 күн бұрын
That’s great that you’re getting close. Definitely a lot of priming options. See quite a few people just opt for rattle cans of self etching primer from the hardware store… probably a lot easier than all the paint gun setup stuff. IDK… I also stumbled on to Stewart Systems. It’s a no VOC option so you don’t need all the protective gear… from what I’ve read the only downside is that you need to let it cure for several days before you work with it… but depending on your work schedule. That might not be an issue

If you’re talking about the plastic trim around the top half if the door, you have to remove the screws and the latch cover at the top and then should be just the trim screws around the perimeter.

When in doubt, I would say always ask an A&P. With that said, most interior work is allowed to be performed by the owner as outlined in 14 CFR Part 43, Appendix A, Subpart C (Preventive Maintenance). I'll provide a link below, just scroll down to subpart C. From what I read there the owner can repair and replace the majority of the non-structural items in the interior (as long as the replacement parts are certified to meet the appropriate standards). All of the carpets and other materials I used for my renovation were from Airtex Products and come with a certificate for my logbook showing that they meet all FAA requirements for fire, etc. There's also a ton of other maintenance that the owner can perform on their airplane in general - but I'd say always talk to an A&P if you're unsure. www.ecfr.gov/current/title-14/chapter-I/subchapter-C/part-43#Appendix-A-to-Part-43

I am days away from completion. Is there any type of seal between the inner and outer latch on the top of the door? Prior to this renovation I noticed some water on the right side. I’m replacing the seal and wind lace, but still concerned about the potential of leaks. I saw a video that showed 2 neoprene washers on both sides of the other latch, but in the diagram I found I only see one on the outside. I don’t think it will hurt to put one on the inside too…

I don’t have any additional insight on that one, but as long as the mechanism functions with the second washer, I would think it couldn’t hurt either. Congratulations on nearing the end!

I’m in the home stretch of my overhaul with the pilot, copilot, and door panels to finish it off. Really happy with how it’s turning out. My trim is a bit darker than my vinyl, but I went with it anyway. It is actually so different it doesn’t even look like I was trying 😂. Question: I’m getting ready to secure the pilot and copilot panels and I am not super comfortable about how close they are to the rudder pedals. It’s not necessarily touching them but there seems to be play as I can push the panels toward the wall a couple inches. Did you secure it somehow?

Congrats on the plane! If you don’t mind me asking, what’s the reason in purchasing a plane? And do you feel like it’s worth it? Since you’ve owned it for a few months.
@BlueSkyFlight3 ай бұрын
Something I’ve wanted to do since I was a kid. If you fly at least a handful of times a month I think the math works out to make it better than renting. But without that, having it available when you want it, and the ability to keep it clean, make the interior how you want it, etc. are the most compelling factors for me. Fixed Cost of ownership, without actually flying it, is about $1200 per month (hangar, insurance, annual inspection, loan). After that it’s about $60 per flight hour for gas.

Thank you for the great videos. I have an Archer II. I bought my windows from LP Aero, the Pilot and Copilot are 1/4" with a vent window on both. the rest are 3/16th. I had to trim the window over the baggage door, because it's about a 1/2 shorter than the pilot side rear window. I used a Milwaukee 3" metal cutting wheel to trim the windows and to round out the corners. It works great on plexiglass. Thanks again.
