I would recommend any one learning to fly to consider Orlandi Flight Center at Blairstown, NJ.

If the three greens fail to show up, before beginning to go through the manual gear deployment checklist, run the panel dimmer switch to full up. If someone turned it down on a night flight prior, it won’t put out enough juice to illuminate them.

It's also a great way for instructors to test if students are really doing a gear check. Had that trick pulled a number of times - very effective!

Lol yes, sadly every time FS2020 or Oculus releases an update everything breaks for me as well. Thanks man - it's a lot of work so I haven't had time to make much content - but I'm glad you're enjoying what little there is!

I can remember doing my endorsement on the Arrow in the 1980's. This brings back some fond memories. I liked your style and you have some well established habits that will equip you well throughout your adventures. Thanks and safe flying.

It’s a fantastic plane! She’s been in the shop for a new engine, will be back on the flight line soon. As for the good habits, I owe it all to my instructors. Thanks for the well-wishes, stay tuned for more!

Good work flying. The Arrow is an excellent airplane, I love my 1969 -200. I've found especially with the three blade prop that coming in over the numbers with a touch of power and a nice shallow round out will help you squeak it on there nice and smooth. Sometime power idle runway made is creating too much drag and slowing me down, leading to a high AOA on the flare and a firmer touchdown. Complex time is extremely valuable and I wish people got more of it these days!

Awesome! As you can see the runway 25 approach is steep because of the mountain - the Arrow drops pretty quick but if you’re in a 172 it may take some getting used to. Watch out for gliders on a nice day, they land from both directions & don’t all have radios. Also the tow planes land runway 07 even when winds favor 25. And they all use the grass strip to the left of 25, which isn’t charted. And of course - GOOD LUCK! Enjoy it!

Try keeping a little power in when landing. The Arrow I’m flying lands like a refrigerator without around 15-16” MP & 85 MPH or so at touchdown. Great job keeping an eye on the weather. Even with my instrument rating I won’t fly with ceilings below 500 and vis below 2 mi
@FlightHours
@FlightHours 3 жыл бұрын
LOL "like a refrigerator" - that's great, completely accurate. The camera shake makes the landings look harder than they are - it's mounted to a flexible plastic housing - but good advice, I'll experiment more with soft field technique at a larger airport. I tend toward short field technique in the Arrow, we frequently put her down on some sub-2,000ft runways and the home airport's only 3k. That refrigerator carries the extra energy into the rollout...! Agreed on minimums. I've got the PPL now and have changed plans in the air due to weather/vis concerns. Things can get hazy pretty fast.

@FlightHours

You feel the turbo kick in a couple seconds into the takeoff roll - it definitely adds a "smile factor"!
@observer1242
@observer1242 3 жыл бұрын
On the “power set“ point. With the turbo, do you generally recommend bringing the power up to 40 inches while holding the brakes and then releasing the brakes and go or do you begin the roll bringing the power up to 40 inches noting it as you’re rolling?
@FlightHours
@FlightHours 3 жыл бұрын
I'm no expert but it's my understanding that you can't hold the brakes all the way to 40" because it starts to overwhelm the brakes, so I release them as the power approaches takeoff setting, then tweak it to exactly 40" on the roll. It's a challenge to dial in exactly 40" without over- or under-shooting while rolling, especially since there's a lag between throttle adjustment and manifold pressure change, but you get a feel for it. I just did my first flight in the twin-engine Piper Seneca II and trying to do that with two engines on the takeoff roll was... well, I needed help from an instructor for sure.

Plenty of flights to Blairstown, from PNE / MJX nice rural airport. Sitting on the picnic tables eating breakfast watching the gliders. Good food nice people. Learned how to fly the arrow at PNE. Learn how to fly a Cessna 182 at MJX. Like the Arrow better.
@FlightHours
@FlightHours 9 ай бұрын
Oof tough choice, comparable. I've got time in both, 182 seems more practical to own since no turbo and the mx issues that involves but the Arrow's more of a pleasure to fly. As far as airports, hands down Blairstown beats all in the area!

nice video. 15 hours to get a complex endorsement though? to me this seems unnecessarily high. 3-4 hours max, couple of hours general handling and a couple of circuits.

There are two versions of the Nflightcam cable - one for the Hero 4 or older, one for the Hero 5 or newer. Search Amazon for the following (and yeah, it's pricey - I bought it at $80 in 2019, it's been as high as $150): "Nflightcam Aircraft Audio Solution for GoPro Hero5, Hero6, Hero7 Black, Hero8, Hero9"

@@gianmarcochinazzi8499 Congrats! If you get the cable, make sure to plug it in and test before your flight. Occasionally the cable would come loose in the socket and my audio would be messed up. I use a rubber band to hold the cable to the GoPro so it’s not just hanging - that fixed it.
