Let's Build in Planet Coaster! Today we start our Planet Coaster Pirate Theme area! We build a pirate cove, a pirate shanty town entrance and a tortuga style pirate fort using lots of the pirate scenery and detailing!
Planet Coaster is a construction and management simulation video game developed and published by Frontier Developments. The game is a spiritual successor to the RollerCoaster Tycoon series, with the third game in that series having been previously developed by Frontier.

Re the other side of the island.....you know, at Disneyland the Tom Sawyer Island faces both the "western" Frontierland and the "Piratical" New Orleans Square, and how they solved it is with a kind of slightly falling down shanty building--now this version, the current one, has lots of platforms and tiers because when it was rebuilt for the "Fantasmic!" water/light/character/pyro nighttime show they needed the platforms for performers to dance and move on, but the original was more or less JUST this building, and see how it is "western" but also New Orleans bayou-shanty style, plus there's that ship's mast and netting and things. Here's the pic: albums.mouseplanet.com/AdrienneVincentPhoenix/TSI2_040407_DM.jpg Now on another side of the same island is a good choice, too: It is a dilapidated and abandoned watermill--originally a part of the Tom Sawyer theming and story, and it has its little dock presumably for riverboats to load/unload lumber or grain at. (When I was a kid the river was stocked and you could actually fish for trout on that dock!) Anyhow, it meets the "bayou and western" quals, too. Here's that pic. Hope these inspire: davelandweb.com/tomsawyerisland/images/oldmill/KT2PBKYC_3_62_N17B.jpg

Love the idea of a water mill.... Would give us a good reason to use the awesome water mill animatronic too! Think this is what we will go for, cheers Dan!

It would be really cool if they could implement some kind of kids adventure playground pieces like ladders, ropes, death slides, swings, and see-saws etc. If they were relatively generic they could be themed and planted in any way you like. If the younger guests could be made to play/use them as well. Sounds harder and harder to implement the more I describe it lol. Great vid as usual, looking forward to more!

Skull Rock, Skeleton Cove, Treasure Bay, Hispanola Harbor, Port Royale, etc. etc. One of the great things about the real Pirates was the mix of cultures-- English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, and of course Native islanders. Gives you a way to broaden the color schemes and architecture to make them go beyond the "predictable" stuff that comes with the game. LOVE the new lighting section of the videos--keep it up! Also the overview! ALSO...one more bit of Disney trivia for you: When they were originally doing Pirates of the Caribbean at Disneyland they researched the REAL pirate era intensely and found something that, clearly, would NOT go into the ride or the park: Turns out the NUMBER ONE cause of death to the REAL pirates was not combat, accidents at sea, or the others you might think--it was, by a huge statistical reality.....venereal disease! Oh those frisky Pirates! So at least we know you need a "first aid" in this area too! :) Thanks again!

Great ideas... love the idea of bringing in some other cultures, not sure my building abilities are upto it, but we can try! And that fact made me genuinely laugh out loud... I think we need a LOT of first aid areas XD

BTW, when the original sketches came to Walt for the Haunted Mansion they were full of broken shutters, spiderwebs, and other "spooky" stuff. Walt allegedly said "No, that's too trashy for Disneyland. We'll take care of the OUTside and let the ghosts take care of the INSide. Hence the classic mansion that fit with the whole New Orleans theme nearby. AND in more Disneyland trivia about that area? Parts of the Frontierland railroad station--the "station" you see across the tracks from the line area--were actually the original Fantasyland station that was removed when "Its A Small World" joined the park--re-themed Western as a facade/display. You probably know that the telegraph message you hear clicking from that station's building is actually Morse code for the opening of Walt's dedication speech when the park opened ("To all who come to this happy place, welcome!" etc. etc.) but did you know that the "Two Brothers" sequence of the "American Adventure" at EPCOT (and later used in "Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln at DIsneyland too) which shows, in pseudo-Matthew Brady photography the horrors of the Civil War and, at the end, the family at a railroad station posing by the returned coffin of the brother who dies, was shot AT this station? Watch carefully next time and you'll see the resemblance.

I think a terrain conforming RMC would be pretty cool to see on the hill behind the Pirate area for the coaster. Maybe run it through some of the buildings in the shanty section of the area towards the end of the ride after it's lost some of its speed.

Love the idea of a kid themed area! If I may make a suggestion, a small "dig your own treasure" area might be a great addition to the playground you were talking about. As always, keep up the amazing work! You have a great take on each theme.

I am so loving the pirate theme. My husband and I have our apartment decorated in pirates and Day of the Dead decor. I would go ballistic if Frontier brought in Day of the Dead scenery. Anyways, I'm loving what you are doing with this. I cannot wait to get the game and make my own pirate section.

nice to hear your thoughts on my idea for no combative animations. Pirates scenery really lacks any casual pirates. We really need some prisoner pirates, drunken ones laying around, or just standing pirates who aren't shooting.

I really was hoping that you would build a bit of a bridge across the pond to connect the two areas. That way no one would get stuck and it would help the flow around the park. Also good for staff. I was thinking that the path could flow through "Jezebel" past the shop on the inside. Maybe even come onto the island you created and out of the cove you made on the pirates side. Just a thought but I really think it would be a nice transition.
@Geekism

I actually tried a bridge through Jezabel, but it just didn't look good! For this park, atleast, I like the idea of seperate sections... in the next one we will probably look at more subtle transistions :)

Kid's area: "Privateer Place" Main Area: To go off CookieMonster 123's name idea "Buccaneer Bay" Maybe make the fort a Spanish fort and take some inspiration from the port in St. Augustine Florida. By the way, forts almost never are open to the outside. Like your plaza area in the middle of the fort is open to the river.

Nice Video, did my Pirate area in the park already, but you've so many great ideas, that I think mine needs some rework. I usually think too small :-) I just start building and see where it brings me to...but having a plan before might help. I fully agree on the "non combat animatronics", I have been missing them already, too. For the Coaster, I chose the wooden one, too. It kinda sourrounds the area with the high parts at the outer edge. But then again, my pirate area is not as big as yours...a surrounding coaster might be a bit unrealistic there. Anyway, great job once more. I am looking forward to watching the progress :-)
@Geekism
@Geekism 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks :) Yeah I think the wooden one, or hybrid, is probably the best fit... looking forward to developing the area :)

I'm not much of a builder, so I never noticed, but am I right in saying that PC has better building mechanics than PZ? I mean it struck me when Jonti was able to adjust the coast without removing the water! PZ could never!

Very cool start, gives me a few ideas for my park...a question for you...do you research pictures of buildings you want to build to get a rough idea before you start or do you just kind of jump into it? I find that just starting with a general idea in my head and no real plan gives me the coolest results, but I think if I wanted to build more realistic buildings I would have to use google images or something. Great video
@Geekism
@Geekism 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks :) It's a mix of both really. For instance in this park, the western area was loosely based on a few google images, the main street building are all replicas of real life buildings and this pirate fort is off the top of my head. Depends on what I'mn building and how I'm feeling :)

One thing I'd absolutely love is if you could use different types of "carts" for attractions..... It kind of annoys me that I have to place an attraction in a themed part of the park that simply does not fit the theme because of the lack of cart customization....

Question--with the lighting you're doing on the ship and buildings here, the stuff we DO NOT see the sources of (i.e. torches and lanters)....is there a way in the game to somehow use the "trigger" functions to make those area lights FLICKER as IF they were coming from unseen natural flames and not light bulbs? IF not, maybe that's a suggestion for a further "effect" lighting option from Planet Coaster's designers, because it would apply in many areas and is a key atmospheric of real parks that do things right.
@SvenMazet1973
@SvenMazet1973 7 жыл бұрын
that is exactly what I'm waiting for, a way of controlling lights without having to use triggers... sort of a DMX controller so I can in a sense change colours, intensity etc... even flickering lights should be do-able.
@Geekism
@Geekism 7 жыл бұрын
The only thing I could think of atm would be to make a small track ride that is hidden with a trigger that turned the lights on and off. But it wouldn't be the nice subtle flicker that, as you've pointed out, you see a lot in parks. A DMX controller would be an awesome feature in the future :)
@dlfendel2844
@dlfendel2844 7 жыл бұрын
Maybe if a nearby ride that had no triggers for its own sake had MANY that ran the lights in a nearby area in a semi-random pattern there would always be SOME of them "on" but they'd be going on and off randomly so that it seemed to flicker between more and less light sequentially? Just an idea, and no idea how complex it might be to achieve. I mean, theres' nothing in the game that says the triggers in a particular ride have to trigger things only IN that same ride, is there?
