Kent Jenkins (Snubby J) is a multi-disciplinary artist known for his highly-energetic performances playing the RimbaTubes, a homemade PVC Pipe instrument built with his father. What started as a hobby making KZfaq videos in 2007, has since garnered Snubby J millions of views online and on television around the world (The Ellen Show, Das Supertalent, America’s Got Talent, MTV’s Amazingness, TEDx Talks online.) Originally from Lake Oswego, OR, Snubby J has travelled across the United States, Europe & Asia for college shows, corporate events and variety performances. His dream of performing with the world-renowned Blue Man Group came true when the two collaborated for a multi-episodic web series, sharing his journey to becoming the artist he is today.

Have you ever done a blacklight show? It would be neat to have the paddles emit blacklight so when you move around the whole stage glows. Not sure if it is possible though.

This is aweeeeeeesome. So, do you have mics near the tubes, or you record with a boom mic, or just the camera mic? Dying to know how the technical part of the recording is done. Your sound quality is quite good!

Cheers! My preferred setup is using my H4N audio recorder overhead, but for “live” single take videos (such as this), I place it a few feet away down front.

Right on! Depending on which notes you have, I think you can tackle any song you can imagine. Back when I was constructing this first PVC Instrument, I remember having only the bottom 5 white notes, C->G, after one of our building sessions. Let me tell ya.... I played at least 10 different songs with those few notes! So I recommend just following whatever song inspires you right now and learning that.

If you suck, that means you're just getting started. Practice and improve until you don't, and you won't need to give up anything. That said, if you don't have a passion for singing that would make it worth the effort, then perhaps you should find something else as your calling.
