I finally finished a video earlier in the month than the last 1-2 days. Was hoping to have it done within two week of John's original Pithee post, but as it turns out I can be real slow at editing when there's other things going on in my life. That and ol' friend procrastination loves to show his head up every now and then. This is still a win though. Now I can get an earlier start on the next video. Just gotta figure out what that's gonna be. I know there's a lot of big boy videos that I wanna do once I've got a better computer to work with, but that could take a while. Maybe I should check out my list and see what I can cross off...

I’ve gotta be real, I really like pithee. I think it’s a real fun time waster, just as Jackfilm said. It doesn’t really feel like it’s trying to be Twitter in spite of the title, it’s just trying to be funny. I certainly think it benefits from a more diverse audience or some kind of incentive to be actually funny and not just post a bunch of slop. Personally, I think it can work.

I feel like Jack's kind of just settled for "lamer" content. All of his YIAYs are now on another channel, they're all filmed on Twitch, and then edited into a package, and they just.. don't feel as funny as they used to. I sometimes still watch old YIAY episodes, even the ones that were half AD, and still laugh quite a lot. Jack's delivery changed, the type of answers he gets changed, the addition of the council's a whole bag of beans, it feels a little like he's gotten stuck in this tired, no longer fresh series. Hell, he's recently made a PMS video on Jacksfilms, and it's made me laugh a lot, like his old sketches still do! He's still got the magic, he just needs to try to make it fresher, without the external endeavours, like Be Funny Now (flop) and Pithee (soon to flop once the novelty wears off), and without the same tired wishy washy series. Call me crazy, but a good way for him to refresh himself would be.. stopping YIAY for a while, and going back to making slower uploads, *with* more sketches and skits and music. Hell, I can't remember the last time Jack's made music.

Honestly, I love Jack's content but I really just wish he'd stick to KZfaq. Every time he makes something other than a video it is colossally flawed.

I get the sentiment. I wouldn't go so far to say everything has been bad. His twitch has been largely successful, and while I didn't get involved with either the tour or the board game, they were both received well. But there's been a lot of failures as well...

@@Kai.Horton I'd argue that the Twitch ends up kinda being an extension of his KZfaq but I will concede that the tour was fine. All the same, though, nobody talks about the board game and BFN and Pithee both have incredibly major flaws that it's very hard to look past and don't seem to be getting addressed (and apparently, in the case of Pithee, actively being censored).

I don't knock the man for trying, as his ideas (for the most part) sound really fun on paper. I will say that pithee sounded pretty dumb and desperate from day 1, but the board game and Be Funny Now? Those were really ambitious ad cool projects that I was rooting for

My way of fixing Pithee would be to have it function more like twitter, with you having the ability to follow others and with scrolling through piths ordered by popularity (you can choose a random order) and rating only the ones you want replacing 4 piths being on screen.

all of jack's extra endeavors outside youtube remind me of a very crappy open mic night. noone wants to suffer through that, and yet he's hellbent on hosting such experiences. jokes can't be gameified like this imo, because good humor depends a lot on skill. not many people have that and, unless you're playing with pro comedians, the game's just going to suck. edit: also, some of my pithees have been deleted because I was critical of the site in them, so make of that what you will

I do believe it's his specific type of game that can't work, not joke-making games in general. We know that jokes can be gamified successfully with things like the Jackbox games. However, those games do a lot of the heavy lifting with their clever game structures, which makes it much easier for the average unfunny shmucks like us to be funny (now). I'm not sure if your posts were deleted for your criticisms specifically. My deleted posts seemed random without any connective thread. While playing, I've also seen lots of posts also being critical of Pithee. Jack hasn't shied away from self-critical jokes in the past - for a while it was kind of his thing (all the forehead and gay jokes). Would be very surprised if he or others on his team were removing critical posts.

@@Kai.Horton Jackbox also works better because, as you mentioned in your video, you're generally playing it with your friends (and stream chat if you're a streamer but they should already find you entertaining)

honestly my biggest gripe is in order to use the site you need to connect your discord or twitch account to use it which sucks if you want to keep your accounts separate from each other

To be fare, he wasn't really trying to make a social media website. A lot of his titles are to get people to click the video.

Just because deceptive titles are normal, doesn't mean they're good. Also, he's made more comparisons between X and Pithee when shouting out his website in recent jackisanerd videos. Regardless of the accuracy, it is one of his selling points.

I recently saw a 24/7 jackbox live-stream where bots and automatic commands change the games by the number of votes. So I think, that Pithee it's something like that. An automated jackbox session until the website shuts down

I don't know where you're from, but John's from a place where he sees alcohol ads everywhere. It's also a place where recreational cannabis is completely legal. Where I'm from we have neither, and it really jumps out at me when I see an alcohol ad. It seems like it's trying hard to gloss over so much of the domestic abuse and public disturbance that comes with over-consumption. While on the other hand, in my country you risk getting jail time if you're caught with a meesly 100 grams of hash (quite possibly much less, but that's the latest case I heard about. Namely two individuals going splitsees on 100 gs and serving jail time for it). Around the same time I saw Jack's sponsorship I heard a similar one on a podcast and both times I thought "It's so great to see such progress in destigmiatization." The fact is people get both more aggressive and more vulnerable from alcohol. Around spring time it's always highlighted that a lot of young girls get assaulted at parties. Either as a consequence of over consumption or directly having their drinks spiked. Both of these are far less likely with weed. With over consumption because you don't lose control of your senses in the same way, and with spiking because it's easier to find a drink with a closable container when it's non alcoholic. I don't know if you are in strong contention for legalization or just thought it had nothing to do with the Jacksfilms brand. Either way it's food for thought. For anyone who bothers to read this. Pithee has so many jokes about pronouns that I'm starting to think it's not satire anymore and that they're actually just transphobic. Also, I once saw someone drop the F-slur with no way of reporting them, so I don't think getting banned on Pithee is possible.

While I don't understand or agree with the name change from Twitter to X, that is what the company is called now. Calling it X also helps identify it as the Elon-era of Twitter, distinguishing it from eras past.
