I've found that my battery on pixel fold has massively improved since switching to the latest Android beta edit: specifically standby is massively better. Noticing hardly any drop while the phone is in my pocket which is saving most of the juice for actually being used when I want to instead of wasted.

I've actually found the battery life to be fantastic, I've had Accubattery running since day one and it shows screen on time of 12h 30m, screen off 3d 9h, and combined use 45h 54m. I normally charge my phone at night while watching TV and top it up to 90%, by the following night it's usually around 30-40% remaining the following night. I will say though that more often than not I'm on Wi-Fi, and when I'm on cellular it's on 4G LTE or faux-G, aka at&t's 5Ge, I don't have a 5G plan so my phone doesn't ever connect to the 5G network. I also keep adaptive charring on as it reduce damage to the battery so that in a year and a half or so it won't show a noticeable reduction in capacity, fast charging is a trade off, quicker charging now for reduced battery life later, to me that's never worth it.

Mine has been decent. I own a business always doing Facebook,emails, TikTok, making some content, KZfaq (premium) with screen off while using pixel buds a. I do use the front screen id say 90% of the time. Love love the role fold for spread sheets. It's such a game changer. By the time I'm home at end of the day (8-10 hours of work) I'm sitting at about 30% left.

Hi...I've enjoyed your videos and tips on the Pixel Fold & I hate the battery after almost 2 weeks of ownership. Nowhere near my Z Fold 3. But I love the phone vs the Z. So I bought a Pitaka MagSafe case and their EZ Slider Dock/MagSafe Battery Combo. 1st unit was defective and drained my battery to zero when it said it was charging on the dock...also battery only...I got a new one and tested it at home on WiFi and it charged the phone, albeit slowly...even while using the phone with the battery, it would still charge. I thought the problem was solved. I was happy, cuz the Pitaka battery looks great and is super light. Perfect for while on the go. I hate carrying a power bank and cord in my pocket. Well...the Pitaka battery failed the real world test today while on a plane ride home. My battery was down to 35% and no way would it survive a 3 hour flight. All of the plugs in my row were broken. So, battery to the rescue...right? Nope. I attached the battery and it began to drain the battery quickly...it also warmed up as did the phone and eventually the battery/phone started to say "charge" but disconnect on and off. It then stopped recognizing the battery, probably thermal protection. I powered it off for 15 minutes and when rebooted the phone recognized the battery, but started to do the same thing. Plane took off, Im in airplane mode and eventually plane WiFi...I put the battery back on and it said charging but didn't charge, but it also didn't drain the battery and the phone % drop slowed considerably vs. normal phone use with no MagSafe battery. So, the battery on WiFi and basic use on Facebook and Messenger was able to mostly hold a charge and it barely got warm to the touch. When I stopped using the phone, screen off and streaming music to my Pixel bids,.the battery was able to charge the phone...albeit very slowly. About 5% increase in 20 minutes (so theoretically 6.6 hours needed for a full charge from 0%) We landed, switched back to 5G...I decided to.try the battery again...and it immediately drained 5% in a couple of minutes. It might be the Pitaka battery is just not capable. Although their tech support assured me they tested it fully on their case when my first dock couldn't charge in any condition. I've chatted with others on Facebook and others are experiencing the same issue with batteries. I tried several other name brand and Chinese brands batteries and they charge as they should while using the phone...but that was tested at home on my Wifi and not 5G. So is this a Tensor issue, a Pixel issue or a MagSafe battery issue. I have a MagSafe car charger from LISEN with a fan and it charges the phone at a decent speed while driving. Obviously I'm not using the phone, but my apps are open in the background and I've used Google maps on occasion when my van's GPS can't find some destinations. I know this was a lengthy comment but there's lots to explain. I think this would be a great troubleshooting video to see if there is an issue here with MagSafe in general on 5G (but batteries especially). I hope you choose to look into this as there are a decent amount of customers on Facebook with the same issue. It's almost a deal breaker for when I'm out and about with the family or traveling for work. I tried several Anker batteries but they all got warm on WiFi. Hinova has a sexy slim, clear glass battery. Didn't get warm, they say they use graphene for heat. But I only tested it on WiFi. Please help...keep up the great Pixel Fold content. I don't want to go back to the Z Fold and I think I just passed my return window with AT-T anyway 😰

I don't have issues with my battery or charging. My battery lasts all day I use the outer screen 70-80% of the time. I feel like it charges relatively fast with my 30w charger.

Hello Shane good tips! here is another one...Settings, Network&Internet, Internet,scroll down to Network Preferences...and Turn OFF WiFi automatically, Turn OFF notify for public networks. These are 2 Background services that eat up more battery. PD if you want your home or any other network to turn ON automatically you can do so by selecting that network and network usage. Thanks and hello from Madrid, Spain! Awesome

I love the Microsoft surface duo and will hold off purchasing the Google fold with the hope that we will see a surface duo 3. Will it no longer be dual screens and become a true fold? I hope they keep the dual screen set up as it's a unique product and great for multi tasking. If we at least have an outer screen, wireless charging and better camera's it would be a great improvement. However, rumors point to a true fold. If the surface duo 3 is never released it would be very disappointing for Microsoft users. If this is the case, I think the Google fold or Google fold 2 will be the best option. Thank you Shane for all of your honest and informative reviews so far!

my battery life is amazing. however I turned off the 120hz and left the adaptive charging on. I usually spend 2 hours in mornings on socials. on fold 4 I was down to 65% in that time. on pixel fold I'm only down to 88% at worst. sometimes even 92%. I think the 120hz and using the inner screen is what's gonna kill the phone faster. I'm interested in the android 14 beta, but I have to use my phone for work with note taking photos, videos, and emails. so I'm hesitant to try a beta system, and probably just gonna wait it out. Also I usually put phone on charge around 60-50% remaining and top it up. I probably should let it get closer to 0% but Ive always done that with phones, because I freak out thinking it'll die before I go to bed. I charge overnight too. but so far I'm pretty impressed with the battery life. now the button placement on the other hand.....🤬. I prefer to type in portrait mode with whole bottom screen as keyboard similar to duo. but my pinky keeps slipping and turning off the screen. but typing on the other side my hand covers the speaker and makes it sound horrible. I don't like the power button placement. it should be like a single dot button on the top of the phone instead of side, then implement face ID or underscreen fingerprint. it's aggravating.

Yes, a lot of us have chargers to hand, whether at work, in the car or at home, and that is not including battery packs, so poor battery life is a bit of a misnomer for the vast majority of us as we can top-up during the day. I agree with 5G, just turn it off unless you need it. It means 90-120 minutes more SOT in my tests when on 5G all day rather than LTE. Also, since I have been on Android 14 the standby time has halved, so 4% over 8 hours during the night rather than 7-8%.If I had no access to a charger and used it for 24 hours doing my normal stuff, I use about 50% for 4 hours SOT with c.66% use on the front display. So zero complaints viz battery life. As for charging, I always use a slow 15-watt charger to preserve the integrity and the battery cycle longevity, so superfast charging is not important. For those that it is, as Google uses the PD standard they cannot achieve the numbers that the Chinese OEMs get using patented proprietary chargers. I doubt Samsung, Apple or Google have any interest in making their own fast standard unless they can get self-healing tech like the Chinese have which to a point reverses the ageing of superfast charging. The Chinese are simply ahead with battery tech.

Pixel fold for me but I wasn't a stylus user so I can imagine for those that are stylus users the pixel just isn't an option. I'm get better battery on pixel and it just generally feels like a more premium experience so I'm definitely on team pixel. Will have to see what Samsung does with the fold 6 to see if I go back to them.

I had fold 2-4 and surface duo once and always prefer Surface duo but truely foldable. Google nails it and really copy surface duo ( the hinge almost identical) and makes it foldable. I am actually waiting oneplus but from the leak it is no longer the short fat design. Quite disappointing. I don’t use pen too, I just use mine first day and sit inside the drawer forever. I may wait for pixel fold 2.. yes I probably skip fold 5 too as it is just another fold 2 with minor change.

I'm team Pixel Fold. Absolutely love everything about the phone. I had the Z fold 3 and couldn't get past the outer candy bar screen or under display camera for video calls. Outer screen made a simple text or note too complicated to type when I needed to be quick. The pixel outer screen has been a huge upgrade for me. Having the outer screen for quick tasks whilst also having the bigger screen for media consumption/photo editing is amazing. I will say one thing I liked more about the Z fold 3 was that more apps were optimized, but I'm sure developers will roll out updates for their apps for the pixel fold with time.

The thought of having the phone on a wireless charger that long every day make me cringe. 😬 That battery is going to be toast in like 9 months. Also, the fan in the charger stand will keep the charger cool but it won't cool the phone. The heat in the phone during charging in generated inside the phone. The fan in the charger isn't going to help that.
@scaryifliteral
@scaryifliteral 10 ай бұрын
I've used wireless chargers for years without my battery being "toast" in 9 months (weirdly specific timeline lol). The fan absolutely keeps it cooler than chargers without. So many people use Qi and can verify this is a silly comment.. 😂 EDIT: For more data, after about 20 minutes on the Stand Gen 2, my Pixel Fold battery is 35C. It gets hotter than that being used.
@jimv1983
@jimv1983 10 ай бұрын
@@scaryifliteral that "weirdly specific" timeline was from my own personal experience. That's when I learned my lesson and stopped using wireless chargers. The heat generated by wireless charging is generated inside the phone. Any fan that would help reduce the heat caused by wireless charging would have to be inside the phone. Wireless charging is extremely inefficient compared to wired charging. That means more heat. Non- optimal coil alignment makes it even less efficient and with the Pixel stand the coil alignment is terrible. Leaving a phone on the charger for long periods of time after getting to 100% is bad for the battery even for wired charging. It's even worse for wireless. As for the temperature you claim I know from personal experience that there is no way it's only 35C during actual charging. Especially with the poor coil alignment. Maybe 35C when it's sitting there at 100% and only trickle charging. And even 35C is the very top limit of the optimal operating temperature of lithium batteries. The typical temperature of a phone charging at full speed on a wireless charger is more like 40C. That's going to greatly accelerate battery degradation. Even if you treat a battery well (no wireless charging, no charging overnight, avoiding charging over 80%) degradation is still going to be noticeable by about 15 months and significant when you get close to 2 years.
@scaryifliteral
@scaryifliteral 10 ай бұрын
Sorry, I'm not lying. Stand 2, twenty minutes of charging, 35C. Stopped at 99%. Fan is on the max setting. 7 Pro has endured a year of such charging and is fine. Typical Internet stuff here. You've had a bad experience, you think you know why, the droves of people who have had a different experience, no issues with Qi are wrong or lying. The fact that I can do a test like I did and you'll just say "no, that didn't happen" is wild. Why would anyone talk to you at that point?
@jimv1983
@jimv1983 10 ай бұрын
@@scaryifliteral you mention that other people have had different experiences but temperature during charging isn't something most people pay attention to. They don't know what they don't know. Eventually they get to the point where their battery life is severely degraded. They don't know that long term wireless charging was to blame so they don't complain about that. There are some simple and undeniable facts: 1. Heat makes lithium batteries degrade faster. 2. Wireless charging is far less energy efficient than wired charging. 3. Lower efficiency means more heat. 4. Less than optimal coil alignment means even lower efficiency. 5. The excess heat generated by wireless charging is generated inside the phone. A fan outside the phone won't do anything to dissipate heat generated inside the phone. Those are all facts. Your claims contradict those facts so I'll stick with the facts.
