There’s nothing better than a slice of pizza after a day of sun and fun at the beach. If your in Wildwood New Jersey that means either Mack’s Pizza or Sam’s Pizza. Both are favorites among locals and vacationers. We try both and decide once and for all: Who has the Best Slice on the Boardwalk.
Sam's Pizza samswildwood.com is a South Jersey Shore Tradition dating back to 1957. After purchasing a small pizza oven and relying on an old recipe handed down from Sicilian roots for pizza dough, Sam’s started turning out slices of Pie for 15 cents each. A smart decision... as his business grew quickly eventually leading Sam’s to move to the Southside of 26th Street where Sam's Pizza Palace is currently housed.

Can remember back in the early 1960's when Wildwood Boardwalk had 4 Mack's pizza shops & Sams had two. Both were only 25¢ a slice. Always went to the Mack's that was on Glenwood Ave ( on the boardwalk ). Now prefer Sams pizza over the rest.Sams owner and the short guy that made pizza there last 30 years passed away last year. Making me hungry.

Agree with you - Mack's is the BEST on the boards!!! I had my first slice back in 1959 and it's still the first place I hit in Wildwood.

Good Review. Totally agree with you. Macks pizza has a unique flavor and Sam’s is a slice you can pretty much get anywhere. I don’t think it’s anything special.

We always eat the first boardwalk pizza slice (s) at Sam's. Always fast, best birch beer soda & restrooms & dining room always clean. Macks is very good but think Sam's is the best.

Thanks John. Next time I'm in Wildwood, I'll give Sam's another try. Perhaps I caught them on a bad night. They definitely have a big following. I had the basic cheese pizza. What type would you recommend?

@@TheBigCrabCake We always go with their plain pie. Hope with the owner and the long time pizza maker ( short man ) who died before this season had no effect on quality of their pizza. Yesterday watched a utube vidio where same 5 guys that have been a Wildwood boardwalk pizza test tasting for last 10 years ranked place called Olympic something. They ranked Macks & Sam's high. My 10 year old very smart granddaughter can not believe me that when she is my age (71) a slice of pizza will cost at least $30 a slice. She told me that she would not ever pay that much. When I was her age pizza was only $0.25 a slice.

You didn't compare apples to apples. Why didn't you go sit down at Sam's? Instead, it looks like you walked a block or more. I guarantee you Sam's pizza was somewhat cold before you took a bite. They have counter service and birchbeer too. Sorry, but you missed the mark on this one.

Thanks for your comment. We sat down directly across the boardwalk from Sam’s. The pizza was hot and they were out of birch beer that day. The pizza was fine. I didn’t dislike Sam’s pizza, it just wasn’t anything special. The ingredients, the finish and the overall quality were mediocre. I’m sure there is a lot of childhood nostalgia for Sam’s pizza and that’s OK. I understand there was a leadership change at Sam’s and maybe the product has declined from its glory days. I recommend you try both Sam’s and Mack’s and see what you think in comparison.

I have eaten Mack's several times. It's too greasy for me. Especially since I like pepperoni on my pizza. As you stated, maybe you should try Sam's another time. 😉

You guys nailed it! Sam’s is cardboard sauce and cheese with no flavor. Best point was that you weren’t sure why there was a line. On snap!!! I’ve been going to WW for 52 years and I don’t understand it either. God bless you and your family!
