Dick Powell did it all, radio, stage, musicals, screen and TV with Four Star Theater etc. Even creating a new character in the Dante's Inferno series. Always great collaborations with Charles Boyer, Ida Lupino and David Niven. A class act in everything he undertook. And the writing was always way above anything today. And people still "discover" him today.

The quality of the writing and the acting is impeccable. So sad there is nothing like it on today.

I grew up listening to Dick Powell as Richard Diamond on the radio. He is debonair, classy but unpretentious. I like the half hour or less program wether on TV or radio. This particular episode I believe was well-written and executed. We had a television in 1955, but I don't ever remember seeing this series.

You might like the youtube channel, The Late Late Horror Show, which plays old time radio shows every night starting at 10:00 p.m. through to the morning. They've played Richard Diamond; tonight it will be Johnny Dollar with Bob Bailey. I listen to the programs every night!

Excellent TV drama and very heartwarming. He did his patriotic job. In reality there was a good chance that she survived the war especially with her English language skills. She could have been a Tokyo Rose type. And after the war the Air Force bombardier could have returned to Japan to reunite with his love.

Joan Elan was a Gorgeous Woman! A Great Actor who deserved more recognition. Dick Powel was a genius when it came to the business of the Arts in Acting, Stage, and Film. He contributed to all of it in every way.

Joan Elan was so beautiful. Too bad Hollywood was a place that chewed up beautiful women and spat them out. She should have had a stellar career. This was a beautiful, haunting story. War seen from a different angle, a very personal one.

Always love me some Dick Powell, but Cheez Whiz that was heartbreaking. I bet those stuffy nose-butting-in professors would have been rounded up by the Japanese and placed in camps or made to march like in “Tenko,” if they didn’t make it out in time.

@@PizzaFLIX Yeah, but whose Idea was it to put him in a WWII movie where he plays a bomber pilot? NO WAY! The only older person in his 50's to actually go out on a bomber mission was Clark Gable and he only did it cause he was filming.

@@PizzaFLIX DICK POWELL WAS BORN AND RAISED IN THE TINY TOWN OF MOUNTAIN VIEW, ARKANSAS. THE HOUSE HE LIVED IN IS STILL THERE WITH A MEMORIAL MARKER. BESIDES BEING AN ACTOR, PRODUCER AND SINGER, HE WAS ALSO A FINE TRUMPET . PLAYER AS YOU CAN SEE IN THE "JAM SESSION" EPISODE OF THE JACK BENNY SHOW. I'VE BEEN TO MOUNTAIN VIEW--BEAUTIFUL OZARK FOOTHILLS.

@@polarfamily6222 "LET IT GO!!??" Who do you think I am? ELSA!!?? This is just one of the many vignettes he made on this series between 1952 and 1956 on "Four Star Playhouse". I'm not dissing his acting abilities and the story was GREAT! It's the producer's using him at his age as a bomber pilot in WWII. Well, I do have to mention that even in the fantasy world of this story, he IS at least 20 years older than the girl. Actually at the time of this show, he was 52. That's the improbability of it all. Are we the viewer supposed to believe that this older man with his "half-breed" (I didn't say it, that's how she's described in the show's description) girlfriend are supposed to be falling in love? A May December romance with a half Caucasian half Japanese girl during a very turbulent time in history. Still, the writing and acting are good.
