What percent by age, religion, ethnicity, race, money, etc. Bottom line was that if you were READING on your COMPUTER ... you were WAY AHEAD of the vast majority.

@@stevejette2329 So very true. If you have electric power, you are ahead of the bottom 50%. The same 50% if you can read. If you have a computer you are ahead of 75%. If you have a modern computer, you are ahead of 80%. If you are sitting in a nice clean room, with heat and air, you are in the top 10%.

Actually, I believe that parts are difficult to get and if they can find it it would cost them a fortune to buy. So it's more about self reliance than anything else. Also I honestly think they are are undertaking those repairs in the most practical way...bear in mind, that is not America, where you can buy cheap parts on every corner. They're very brave and hardworking, patience and have a good understanding of metalwork
@Shmayzer6 ай бұрын
@schsch23906 ай бұрын
Parts such as this are not 'cheap' and in US the legal liability for such a repair, even done to closer to first world standards would be so high that no repair shop would contemplate it. Now an individual on his own vehicle, maybe but even there the liability should someone else be injured would be high.
@w.w775 ай бұрын
You are kidding right? This is garbage repair. If they caused an accident and severely injured someone here in Australia, and inspectors find that it was the repair that caused it them they would either pay a big fine or face jail time. If they can't afford the part, then take the truck off the road until they can that repair is not safe at all, especially when you are talking about a part that has to handle heavy loads and heavy impacts on rough roads.
@rosewhite---5 ай бұрын
@@w.w77 You are a fool! These guys are working for peanuts! A new shaft would probably cost more than all the men's monthly wages - and maybe import restrictions mean the genuine part is unavailable!

Safety glasses, safety gloves, safety toe sandals? You betcha. These guys can build anything with a torch, big hammer, hydraulic jack, lathe, and a pair of tweezers. One redeeming thing about this for me is that, in the 3 houses I have owned, I have never had a garage, just a carport, and never had concrete to work on where crawlers or other things with wheels would work, just gravel or dirt. I've laid down 3/4 inch plywood over ground so I could use my engine crane. Plus, it seemed, that every big project I had to accomplish was in the dead of winter where it was in the 20's and 30's with the ground like a block of ice to lay on. So, watching these fellows working with dirt for a floor is catharsis.

In the time it takes to make this repair a good machinist could make a brand new axle. Its a simple part with few critical fits and not much material to remove. A smart machine shop owner would have these ready made in stock. Then they would have a new shaft they could throw in the dirt.
