Potting soil covered with gravel is the best option. I normally wait 3-4 weeks and allow tank to cycle naturally before adding fish.

No, you should switch off the lights at the night. that is how it is. if the water parameters are correct and the tank has enough plants, there should not be any lack of oxygen. Do you have a filter or aerator in the tank? What fish and what all plants are there? What size tank and what substrate?

Hi Ro An, Yes, you are right that Corydoras need some substrate to play around and feed from. However, it will do well in planted tanks also, if it is not fully carpeted. My tank has around 40% open substrate and rest plant cover. It was doing well in my tank and almost doubled in size. However, I have relocated the cories after few months and currently have only Shrimps and blue neon in this tank.

Very little. Oru 1 cup soil use cheythittundaavum. Put 1inch layer of soil and covered it with 1.5-2inch layer of gravel.
